First went late 60s , the border was effectively closed to Gib , but stayed with Grandparents a stones throw from what is now Puerto Banus. San Pedro was a group of typical run down casitas with one or two hotels. All the towns from Gib to Malaga were separated and not just one sweeping jungle of hotels and golf courses, that it is now . My father moved to Estepona and opened a Judo gymnasium , which proved a great success, but sadly the property is now derelict. Like you we sort the old properties and found them amongst the totally over built urbanos. Late 90s saw a trip inside the rock, off limits at the time to the public, with the Canadian military. 2002 to 2011 we lived just outside Jimena de la Frontera, a nucleo of houses known locally as El Cacajon , yep you read that correctly, now been back in the UK for as long , but wouldn't have missed it for anything.🙂
@@donaldmason4959 yeah. And has the rock groins or whatever to stop longshore drift and a rock wall to stop sand being pulled out. You could find scorpions at first because the sand was from Sahara. But I never go to the beach especially that one as it's further away than Eastern Beach
I've watched a number of videos on Gibraltar and this is one of the best I have seen. In September my daughter and I are in Gibraltar for 3 days so this video was very helpful.
David, thank you so much for the support, this is great the hear that our video's have helped you and we hope you have a super time in GIB! take care ☺
Well done on a fantastic video. My husband lived there as a teenager in the early 80s so has seen many improvements and changes in your video. Thank you for the trip, it was amazing.
trying to convert from Gibraltar Pounds to other currencies through Travelex was a bit weird for me in the Travelex office in Chicago. The staff in Chicago actually told me they would not be able to convert Gibraltar Pounds to U.S. Dollars. Seemed silly to my as I could actually spend UK banknotes while I was in Gibraltar and I had no problems converting UK pounds to U.S. Dollars at their Chicago office..
I remember visiting on a day trip from my Spanish resort. I will never forget as it was the day a welder exploded a fuel tank on the port. At the time Independence of the Seas was in port. The ship had to make an emergency departure leaving behind quite a few passengers.
It blew up as my back was turned, heard an explosion and turned around to see the flames. Sadly the maintenance guy on the tank died from his injuries.
Good video, just one more thing from other comments, the building you showed when you mentioned John Mackintosh Hall, is actually No.5, the Chief Minister's Office building. John Mackintosh Hall is two buildings over from Ince Hall, which you showed (the colourful building)
This seems to be a very unique place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
great vid! i'll be heading to Gibraltar tomorrow. very excited, love the channel! do you get funding from places that you recommend? just wondering if they help monetize your channel? thanks!
Great hope you enjoy your trip. The recommendations are based on our stay and our own opinions. We dont get any funding and travel at our own expense when time permits around full time jobs. Maybe one day! 😁
l went in that Venture Inn @04:03 in 2008 for a quiet beer and a load of RN guys were in there fighting (at least two of them were anyway!) and they wrecked the place! (well l saw them knock over a chair!).
@@tugwilsond8907 Thanks glad you liked it. We love GIb for a weekend. It's one of those places you can go again and again and never tire of it. Next time we will try the Donkey's flipflop!
The runway crossing seems rather hazardous. Do they have an emergency clearance team there in case of vehicle engine failures/ accidents or people fainting in the middle of the runway?
Since this was made it is now only pedestrian, as a tunnel opened for cars, but yes they have airport vehicles to check the runway at closure for issues like people still on the tarmac.
This was mid October 2019, but the weather in GIB can be funny because of the rock effect. Sunny in Spain but cloudy in GIB hanging around the rock. I would say anytime between April and October should be good for warmer weather and best chance of sun. If any locals are listening they may know better!
they need to ban cars there its severly congested for a small place the population must be so lazy its only 3 miles long and everyone drives unbelievable
It can indeed be quite busy, but with a lot of people coming to work from over the border in Spain I guess car is more convenient. The bus service is very regular so is a good way to get around without a car.
loopy's run normally a weekend event done by foolish servicemen to run the length of the High Street drinking in every bar until you reach the end those who succeed we'll get a tee shirt Anna helluva headache and hangover Well the servicemen who fell to present themselves for duty on Monday morning a quiet talking to from the chief Petty Officer RSM or station Warrant Officer depending on which service you hail from. Not sure if this is still an active event?
Perfect video, full of useful and accurate information. Thank you.
Ah thank you so much means a lot! X

Great video. I feel prepared for my soon one-day trip for my 50th birthday. Thank you!
Hope you have a great time!
Excellent video! Also, Botanical gardens are quite interesting, as well as the beaches on other side of the Rock.
Thanks Alex appreciate the feedback and two additional great ideas for people to do when visiting! 🙂

Fascinating trip showing a great deal of knowledge. Have you done any videos of Worcestershire and Warwickshire please?

All you need to do in Gib is get pished on JC’s at the Donkeys Flip Flop! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Haha getting pished is good! I had to look it up. The horseshoe pub known by sailors as the Donkeys flip flop! Do you know why?

I am going to Gibraltat in September. What is the best time to get the cable car if I want to avoid long queues?
Go early when it opens.

It's called casemates square
Everything else was pretty accurate well done not a lot of people who do these videos do this well
Good spot thanks for pointing it out and for your kind comment. Good to know we are 99% correct 👍

But thanks for showing us Gibralter
That’s ok this is an older video and we have learned to edit better and balance the music better.

If you google it they are referred to as Barbary Macaque monkeys but people commonly refer to them as apes, but they are a true monkey.

Unwatchable because of the banging "music".
Pour une demi journée largement suffisant... Pas grand chose à voir...
You can do a lot in half a day but really you do need more time to see it all. We couldn't do it all in a weekend.
