What impressed me is that, in many of these videos, the bar was at the top of the supports and he cleared easily. Often by 10 centimeters or more. It's like the event organizers figured no kid could possibly need to set the bar higher than this.

10.4 sounds awfully fast. The women's WR is at 10.49, since 1988. Googling him, it looks like his PR is 10.57. But that was with a wind velocity of 2.1 m/s, which makes it ineligible for a record, and his second best seems to be 10.69.

For all of you that has commented on using feet -inches instead of metric ,i offer the following :1)i as an engineer i prefer the metric system , however in the USA that's what we use, 2) the 10 year progression was performed using feet-inches, 3) a standard that is used to measure young vaulters high performance in the US is to "jump your age (in feet) ", no equal metric standard, 4) all measurement after high school are reported in meters, 5) standard methods for converting feet inches to meters round DOWN losing as much as a 1/4 inch 6) we use $ and not eur etc, 7)i don't have imovie anymore to make changes, and 8) take the time to do what we do in US ,convert meters to feet inches.

He is light, strong, fearless and still very young. He clearly is head and shoulders above the competition. By the end of his career no one should be surprised if he vaults 20’8” or dare I say 21 FEET!!!

I didn't even learn about pole vault until 10th grade, we finally got equipment and a few of us started. Had no real coach and just kinda winged it. It was fun but we were awful. My buddy and I attended Bill Faulks pole vault camp and took back what we learned, greatly improving all of our team. This was years ago, and last I heard our old school team is going strong and still has active vaulters.
Even better, was recently talking with my neice, 7, who does gymnastics and told her about pole vaulting. She informed me they do a class at her gym, and she says it looks fun and wants to try. So proud lol.

When I was in high school (early 1970s) the best pole vaulter in the state was clearing around 15’6”. Now I’m watching someone who broke that height in 8th grade. Amazing.
I’ve always loved this event, though I never could do it. (I did clear almost 4 feet messing around in practice once.😝)

Even if I'm french and proud to be (...I'm french ahah), I hope he'll have a lot of title, and probably the world record of Renaud. He's already a great champion, and even the reaction from Lavillenie at the european championship shows all the respect he have for Mondo (comparing to his reaction for Morgunov's jumps)...

@@sophiewygant2004 How is that sexist? Female athletes will never be able to compete with male athletes of a similar calibre. Bone and muscle structure and density, testosterone levels, etc. are too big of a factor to make it possible. Also this is why there is so much debate around transgender athletes competing
