Motocross Action tests the 2024 Kawasaki KX250 at Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California. The 2024 Kawasaki is a remake of the 2023 Kawasaki, with updated graphics, and a green seat and green fork guards, instead of black. Last year, Kawasaki updated the suspension settings, revised the exhaust, updated the transmission, added new foot-pegs, and changed the intake. Since then, we've learned a lot about this bike and have a clear perspective about what we like and don't like about it.
We break down all the details on the 2024 KX250 in this video and even compare it to a modified version of last years bike, which we had on our day of testing.

2-smokers united! I spoke with my wallet … crispy ‘23 YZ250 in my shed.
2:strokes for sure!
Yamaha bleh!
honestly, at the local level, there's no need to buy a 4-stroke. at least not in the open class. while I like the Yamaha (and its price point), I think the KTM 300 SX is the way to go for the local Open A-C classes. but I think the austrian bikes are ~$1k more than the japanese bikes across the board. so that kinda dulls some of the price point advantage.
@@daneg Oh for sure. The austrian bikes are retailinh at minimum hat much higher than the Japanese bikes. But you can get discounted pricing on the Japanese bikes. I dont see any good deals on the Austrian bikes. Bought my new 22' 450 for 7550 OTD. The cheapest i saw a new KTM 450SX last year was 9k. Then there's all the extra fees on top of that.
good choice my 22 yz250 has held up great
@@danegAlso less reliable than a Yz for sure
WHEN $8000 IS A GOOD DEAL FOR A DIRTBIKE WITH VIRTUALLY NO WARRANTY YOU GOTTA BRING BACK THE 2 STROKE!
Yz250 is a $10,000 out of the door 😂
Yeah, Meaning make A KX125, KX250, and KX500 2-Stroke.
@@perryanderson5642 uh. I'm a 2-stroke guy, but there's a reason 500 2-strokes died during the 90s (middle of the 2-stroke era). they were absolute beasts. unwieldy. unnecessary. I turned much faster lap times on a CR 250 than a CR 500 for w/e that's worth. the 500 2-stroke is a real niche bike. imo, 300 or 350 is the sweet spot for big bore 2-strokes. 250 is archaic. bear in mind they're going to share the track with 450 4-strokes. 250s are just too much of a disadvantage. there's no hope for 125s vs. 250 4Ts, even if they bore up to 150cc, but 125s/150s are so much dang fun to flick around! MXA did a recent interview with Barcia on the 2024 GasGas line. Barcia made a nice pitch for 350s being the displacement for premiere 4-strokes. I guess that's another story. but there's been a lot of chirping that 450 is too much for most ppl even as a 4-stroke. to be fair, I was rather traumatized when I tried to race that CR 500 in '94. nearly killled myself (B-class).😆
KTM 250SX out the door is $13k, 125 is maybe a little less. Everything is expensive nowadays, doesn't matter how many times the piston goes up and down.
democrat carb air board in ca ruined 2 strokes and keep going against chainsaws. The 4 strokes use more oil. Need more maintenance. Vote red if you like dirtbiking
Japan needs to take a few steps to catch back up to what the people want. Two strokes 125, 250 and 300. Make factory edition 250 four strokes and make a 350 four stroke. It’s time to catch up with the times and market of different riders.
So many people buy the 250s they wouldn’t want to make the 125 again because there the same speed the only difference is 125s don’t have as much low end tourque which is needed to come out of corners faster to be able to compete with 250s and if they made a 350 every brand would have to make one if they wanted to race it
@@Tyrsson a lot of riders still love the 125’s and it’s great for school boy classes which is a very popular class. KTM seams to be selling a good bit of 125’s same with Yamaha. 350’s are also KTM’s most sold bike. They are the perfect in between for guys who want more than a 250 but don’t need a 450 plus they are great bikes for vet riders. You can already race a 350 it just doesn’t have its own class. In the GP’s KTM use to bring their young guys up on a 350 for their first year in the 450 class
I am of the same opinion.
The Japanese licensing system is divided by displacement.
Since there are many motorcycle users under 400cc, it is very important to have this category.
125 is good idea, but its a waste making 300s, 350s. Just make the traditional racing bikes
I am 16 and european so having a 125 is basically forced for A1 standards. Being forced to choose from Yamaha, KTM, TM and older bikes it is very inconvenient. Yes, husky and gas I consider KTM. I wouldn't want a 125 4t due to it's subpar performance. 16hp (4t) vs 31hp (2t) and a playful powerband, you know which I'd rather have.
Bring back the full size 2 strokes
2025 Cr125 FI PLS
These Japanese brands might be getting pushed into it soon.
Bring back the full size 2 strokes. When are you testing the 450 ?.
Commercial was nostalgic for me reminds me of back when I was working on my bikes at the garage with dad and thank you guys for all the work you're doing of course😀
Bring back the 2 stroke Kawy
Facts!
Seriously… they still make the 65,85,100, and 112 cc 2-strokes.. why not the 125 and 250??
@@MrJeffharper47 Exactly! 125 and 250 2 strokes are fun to ride, to race, easy and cheaper to repair, and they are the kind of machines that we want, not these boring 4 strokes who sound like rototillers in heat...
Let's All get together and Make and Sign a Petition for 2-Strokes Only. Sign it, send it to Kawasaki USA in California and Especially Kawasaki in Tokyo, Japan. SERIOUSLY.
Bought our son the 22 KX85 and a 23 KX112 to race and he loves them!
SR 250s please!
I’m so thankful for you guys making these videos and articles. Definitely the best information on dirt bikes out there. Thank you!
Call me any name you want. I ride an 01 CR125R but I grew up riding 4 strokes. I love riding my 2 stroke but it takes a lot for me to be able to clear jumps and a lot more commitment and speed around the track to stay on the pipe. I grew up riding thumpers in the desert and occasionally riding motocross so after riding a 125 2 stroke for a couple years now I’m about to be in the market for a 250F so I can not have to work so hard and clear all the jumps.
When are you testing the 450 ?
3 strokes all the way lad
250F. Fix your model names, Kawasaki.
Just picked up a 2024 KX250 anniversary edition for 7,200$ out the door, always wait till the new models come out and get a left over for a smoking deal🤣
Really like Kawasaki KX 250 2024 nice bike👍🇬🇧
What’s the best bike for 205lb 6’2 rider. Currently on a 23 YZ250F
what would be the best bike and best mods for the bike for a 5 foot 1 person? i don’t want anything lower than a 230 as i want to ride it at the track and in the desert(ocotillo wells, barstow, randsburg, etc)
You can get a lower seat from GUTZ or break out the bread knife and cut it yourself, raise the forks up, lowering link for the rear shock, taller footpegs so your not getting slapped by the seat🤙
@@holeshotinspectionllc2412 do you have a link to the guts seat? thank you for the info
Sorry its GUTS racing not Gutz
@@holeshotinspectionllc2412 it’s all good, do you have the link for the specific seat?
I'm 5' 1" and ride a 2023 kx 250. Did nothing to change the ride height. Little tricky getting used to the corner ( can't reach the ground), but it just takes some seat time.
does anyone know when the 2024 kx 450 will get a full walk around video?? I haven't seen much only just pics
Man my 05 kx125 is looking real sweet right about now.
We all noticed that rough idle at the beginning. First impressions are everything, and if I spent $9k for a brand new bike and it sounded like that after its heat cycles, I wouldn't be thrilled
It was most likely a cold start. My Honda & Suzuki 250's bog/sputter like that when they are ice cold and I immediately chop the throttle or start revving. Race bikes like to be warmed up before you start hitting the throttle. But yeah I'm with ya, new bikes shouldn't have a rough idle.
@@Jordan348_MXmy ktm has always had a rough idle, if you even breathe on the throttle when it’s not fully up to temp it dies, so this is a step up imo
That's good to know then, my RMZ250 is the exact same way, I have to let it warm up for a minute before I touch the throttle or it will stall. I bought a Retro YZ125 last week and there was a 24 KX250 next to it that was so fresh, I hope they are solid bikes. @@austinmonk8809
How much does the 22mm offset triple clamps affect the stability compared to the stock triple clamps?
I installed these 22mm triple clamps on my bike. I didn’t notice any change in stability at all. It did help get rid of my pushing sensation entering turns. Suspension being way softer in front is a must and the clamps help the bike turn.
strange that the KTM group are all different price points being the same platform. I thought the only significant differences were spring settings/sag and mapping?
green is clean!! I had a 1986 KX250 in 1986!
$9k for a brand new bike and the first thing you need to do is spend another $1k to get the suspension right. The industry is eating itself..
They can’t make perfect suspension for everyone bud obviously
Josh I’m having same front end issues with 22 kx250. I’m a 158# vet rider I feel I need to drop the spring rate even tho it’s been valved. How much did the triple clamps help? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Call Pro Circuit is best bet. -Ohio
Long cry from when i pulled a 2000 cr 250 out a crate and rode it for 3800 bucks. Crazy but gotta do it
Kawasaki KX 💚
levers and and chain rollers ? i dont know why manufacturers cant put a product on the showrom floor that is right when we purchase a new bike we should not hve to do a thing
they also need to grease everything properly
for 40 years they been failing to deliver
Dear Kawasaki,
please make a 450 dual sport
Team Green ALWAYS!
I'm just to old to care about it anyway but the kids will love it anyway....
KX 450 ❤️
The flo green is 10 years too late could never match the standard green to the race teams but it's there now, why can't the forks be right from the factory, if that frame doesn't work with the 250 then they should make a new 1 for 2025 with major engine up dates to get 50+ HP
Idk why the suspension is messed on modern bike
Its like they do the spring rates on the parking lot of the factory
Wouldn't you just be able to move your forks up or down in the stock triple clamps to achieve 20mm? Stock is 5mm.
Cool !!
Can’t stand that Kawasaki calls this bike a KX250 when it’s a 4-Puke!
I have a legit KX250. It’s a 2 stroke!
Same here. 1990 Kawasaki KX250 2- Stroke and it's A Monster!
4puke is the worst insult and cringiest thing I've ever heard, but yes, I agree.
I have and ride 4 strokes but I have a place in my heart for those classic 2 strokes.
@@kx250fforlife I’ve got 3 - 4 Pukes myself. They are great bikes on their own (CRF450R, 350SXF & CRF150RB), but I’ve got so many 2 Strokes I can’t keep track of them all. Not one of the 4-Pukes are more enjoyable to ride than any of my 2 Strokes.
Im 5’8 is a full size bike right for my size ?
yeah but you could also ride a supermini
You know if your videos included death metal instead of ‘playa’ house music the bikes would look faster
Yo, you really think they're not getting harshness out during testing considering they've had the same fork for years? People don't need a ReVaLvE, they need to change the shit oil and seals and bushings that wear quickly during break-in. Save your money, get sprung for your weight and do a standard service at 10 hours (seals, bushings, oil), THEN evaluate it.
everyone begging for the 450 2 strokes doesn’t ride proper. 250 4 stroke is the perfect balance for MX there’s a reason they keep making them.. its a money maker
The kx250, "its not all bad"
It's not blue enough said...
Wait isn’t the black one the aggressive one?
No its the white
A 450 frame?! WTH?!
My kawi dealer told me 9,299. Even tho the website says 8699 or 8799
Why is every boomer in the comments mad about this bike not being a two stroke lmao
because they can't get over the fact that 4 strokes now are faster and easier to ride than 2 smokes. not gonna lie, I love 2 strokes. I miss my 99 kx125. fact of the matter is you have to ring the piss out of a 125 to get it to move fast, WFO, constantly clutching and shifting to keep it in the meat of the powerband. once you bog and lose all momentum you gotta get it back up. 250 4 stroke has more torque, more power, and you don't have to ring it's neck nearly as much to get it to fly. if you're a gear high it's not as big a deal. gear high on a 125? burn that clutch!!!
funny that back in the day 4 strokes were allowed 100cc so they could match their 2 stroke counterparts. now you have 250 4 strokes at the level of the old 250 smokers. now 2 strokes need more cc's to match the 4s! should change the rules and allow it....ahem AMA!!!
Used to be a Kawasaki fan.... Yamaha and KTM are now just better.
That's a kx250f. Don't insult the legendary kx line. I don't care what kawi calls it. Discraceful 4 choke
My Hard Earned Money ONLY Goes for 2-Stroke Motorcycles.
you can’t even spell disgraceful right 😂
350 cc four stroke woods bike would be perfect
Why dont we talk MORE about how the weight bias is jacked up because they simply threw the 250 engine in the 450 frame. The bike wont turn! Who wants that bike?? I do, but not willing to buy a bike that is improperly balanced. Its a shame, because the KX250x checks a lot of the boxes for me, including hydraulic clutch.
Just bought 2024 250x 6 days ago 7700$ out the door. I think it handles better than my 2022 250f definitely has more power
@@chrisreetz4117 I wish that was true, I mean, I would save $3 grand and have a ton of $$ left over for suspension, exhaust, skid plate, vortex ECU, handguards, lightweight kickstand, radiator guards, and radiator fan. In addition, it would be awesome to have KYB suspension instead of WP, even if the new WP fork is a steel coil spring. I have one question for you... what 2022 250f are you comparing it to?
@jackieonassis7438 yes it is true. I'm comparing it to 2022 kx250f. I could have bought any bike i wanted. Where was I gonna save 3 grand. Please tell me where I can buy a brand new 2024 250 for 4700. And tell me what you ride and for how long you have been riding
Not ridden yet BUT this head pipe would drive me nuts for sure. 4:14 And, the heat of these 4strokers here is dangerous too!
9:46 Plastiks, had issues with broken fork protectors in 2000 or 1999 (can't remember exactly) with KX250. 23 years later, Kawasaki Heavy industries (KHI) can't fix it?
10:37 Chain stuff: TM design works says thank you to Kawasaki since which year of production? Do Kawasaki pays TM design works or they are business partners?
You have/should buy stuff after spending +8K to race/ride it. Not funny anymore!
No wonder the older 2stroke become more and more pupular! And more expensive on the used market. Very often in red or blue (or all the other yellow-black, white purple this brand put out...).
Lol 8k for a brand new bike or u can hit marketplace and get u a 2021 kx250f for 4k cash like me😋
Lol. Its a kx250f. KX250 is a two stroke.
