All of it is so beautiful. Childlike, yet wise and ancient, dangerous but innocent, discarded yet content. I don't know why, but the Junkmother just connects with me so deeply. I also love the BTS tidbit that this was set up as a fairly straightforward boss, yet Emily instantly adopted the Junkmother ❤
I always thought the concept of her as this grandmotherly junkyard hivemind of older robots who helps outmodes was so creative and interesting. If we ever get a season 2 (which I would love), I would be happy to see her again.
The metallic sound that was show edited in for the Junkmother steepling its fingers was a brilliant little touch. Unsettling while maintaining that courteous, inquisitive vibe
Yeah the audio edited in really adds to this npc imo, I think without the voice filter it would've been less impactful, but as a result they're one of my favorite npc's brennan has ever done!
Nerds making fun of nerd stuff is usually such fun because it comes from a place of love and from treasuring the source material :) (See also: Spaceballs and Thumb Wars) "I will go with you and fight!" "Ooh, big sacrifice; everyone you know is dead! Glad you could tear yourself away!""
@@Balke_Beesnuck Galfast Hamhead is one of the nicest antagonists in any medium 🤣 Poor Leland, poor Matt Mercer 🤣 I think Blood Keep is also great because Matt Mercer and Brennan Lee Mulligan demonstrate how fun *failing* your rolls can be around creative DMs and players.
I showed that clip to my Italian mum and the conversation just went "So she's a Nonna?" "Yes." "And her name is Nona?" "Yes." "... I kinda love her." 😆
I love that the king at the end is just Aragorn with a more realistic personality. If you grew up as the last of a nearly dead royal bloodline, one that both saved and cursed the world, while you spent 40 (?) years with only elves and you're now in your 60s, all while still looking like you're in your late 30's, not to mention that you rarely interact with people, and to top it off sleep in the woods most nights you'd most likely be a crazy weirdo.
I'd argue that spending a long time with elves (LOTR elves) would force anyone to become rather sophisticated/careful, but I think that loneliness would be a real mental health breaker, so I always expected him to be more, Idk, isolated? Like, if you haven't been around people for a long, long time, remembering that maybe you shouldn't be possessive of your partner, or that you need to be considerate of your travelling companions with tiny legs, etc would be more addressed. And I read it when I was like 12. Whatever the case I was expecting him to have more issues. But I do still think that he'd know ettiquette, and have a pretty well developed language, even if maybe he wouldn't be so verbal. This is like Aragorn if he never met elves to me.
What fascinates me is when a character is described as something otherworldly, amd then their first interaction shows how much deeper the complexity goes. Junkmother was such a gem.
Mentopolis has been one of my favourite more recent seasons. Conrad and Justin are so great, Alex and Brennan really bounce off each other in a perfect way
I still remember the chills I got when we first met the Junkmother -- such an evocative character, and such incredible work by the editors with the voice effect. Seen all the d20 seasons, love so many of the characters, and the Junkmother really left an impression
I hadn’t watched starstruck fully, only various clips, but I hadn’t seen any involving the junkmother, and I LOVE THIS DESIGN SO MUCH. ITS SO FUCKING COOL.
As an Aussie with an entire Italian side to my family, Ostentatia's family are such a relatable mood. Nona WahLahChe is everything I miss about my own Nonna.
When the eagle flew in I literally shouted "OH! Johnathan Feathers!" then got disappointed when they focused on Stalker. Truly think that's a better example than Stalker, because it was fully on the fly and grown out of the scene players were creating. But favorite NPC from Bloodkeep is still the crown-smith Bones guy.
This video turned around my whole day. What an injection of sheer joy and creativity, it's just what my brain needed... so grateful for people like Brennan and crew, and also for the person who made this video and brought it to the people who maybe otherwise wouldn't see these crazy characters... sometimes all you need is a little nudge. What you do matters
the junkmother is my favorite npc from starstruck, i ADORE her also i watched bloodkeep before i saw the lotr movies (still haven't read the books) so now i finally understand stalker and it is so incredibly funny lmao
I kind of want a junkmother tattoo. Junkmother is the GOAT npc. And I love the edit they did to brennan's voice for her. Also, credit to Emily for interacting lovingly and respectfully to junkmother so it didn't turn into a nightmare fuel situation.
This is supposed to be the best npcs of all and they weren’t even the best npcs of their entire seasons.. best background characters maybe but where’s Plug!! Where’s the half king from bloodkeep?? Where’s sqeem!!
Junkmother is insanely underrated as a character creation.

@@FxdGearQueer You can actually see the moment when Emily's mind is made up. As Brennan is describing her, Emily's whole energy changes.
I always thought the concept of her as this grandmotherly junkyard hivemind of older robots who helps outmodes was so creative and interesting. If we ever get a season 2 (which I would love), I would be happy to see her again.
The Junkmother as something of a warlock patron has so many fascinating role-playing possibilities. 🤔
I want a The Seven spin off with the Junkmother as a central figure.
Love the voices Brennan does for the Junkmother and nona Wallace

@@Saxdude26 "when you fight in the kitchen it poison whatever is cooking" god my grandma mustve said that before i know it
"It was berkin, but now it's werkin again" might be my favorite line ever.
agreed, definitely stealing that for my campaign
Blood Keep is ao slept on. All of the NPCs are terrific; I love seeing Brennan making fun of LotR.
Blood Keep was so funny and heartwarming that it changed my brain chemistry.
it was my first d20 series and i adore it so much!!

The look sells.
"beautiful's not the right word" gets right to the heart of the vibe, hot damn

Nona best

The whole "When you argue in the kitchen, it poisons what you're cooking" genuinely feels like something out of Goodfellas or The Godfather. Amazing.
100% can hear some Italian (or maybe even Spanish) grandmother saying this.
@@shannononeill482 i have heard plenty of arguing in my life, i have never heard an argument while anyone was cooking 🤣

It's such a great season on many levels! I also think Brennan looks incredible there
Wilton is my favorite, but I love Brennan's old man voice.
The Junkmother reminds me of the snake machine from 9, just inexplicably terrifying and framed by a doll's face.
Next video's gotta feature Doug Meat, best henchman in NSBU
If Doug Meat does not wind up with a husband and a beautiful life it’s all over

The Junkmother is only in one scene, but they are definitely my favorite underused NPC.
junkmother my favorite npc ever
Junkmother is so cool im mad i didnt come up with her myself
Mom, can we get Aragorn?
We have Aragorn at home.
Aragorn at home: my father-in-law gave me this sword. It was broken, but now it's working again.
I know this is a Brennan focused vid but the Platinum face card Lou is serving in the first clip is INSANE. He is so handsome ❤
What a smile
I just *have* to know who does the art for the NPCs, it’s all SO GOOD.
They work with a variety of artists, usually one per season though.
The season artist was Amy Reeder

I absolutely LOVED the junkmother, and starstruck odyssey is by far my favorite campaign. I pray we get another season soon, i need it
Anytime the Junkmother speaks I yell "THE TRASH HEAP HAS SPOKEN" I love fraggle rock
ostentatia's entire family are perfection
I !LOVE! you!

John Feathers taking out a pocket square and going “clean yourself up😒” to another eagle is homoerotic nothing can change my mind
My favorite NPC Brennan has ever played is Avanash the Bones Guy from Escape from the Bloodkeep
😂 so mad
Tears when i watch that scene with Emily and junk mother. Emily must be my favourite player ever

She's beautiful and ethereal like a fey from a modern world.
I love Brennan introducing a 'cool' character, and then ruining their entrance.
I am DEVASTATED that I didn’t get a Junkmother pin. I’m gonna have to make my own Junkmother merch at this point… ❤
My favorite npc HAS to be the guy obsessed with his bones !
