    Another great broadcast, guys.
Re: Conceded goals, mainly at corners.
Just another example of a Goalkeeper not prepared to take control of his 6 yard box, at corners or at set pieces.
    - Hart (in Celtic’s first goal conceded, on Sunday), Mc Gregor in Ranger’s game) and Schmeichel (the previous week in Leicester’s drawn game)
Corner crosses that are (reasonably) lofted inside the 6 yard box - and hence more than gettable (from an outstretched arm & fist) are just not being attended to by the Keeper. Why? Sure, a Keeper may have a slightly impeded run at the ball, but too many Keepers are not even thinking about trying to go for it.
[Remember, Goalkeepers are generally “protected” by the Referees especially when the Keeper is being buffeted/knocked going for a high ball. Use this advantage.]
I don’t know what it is - whether it is bad coaching, bad tactics, or simply timid goalkeeping craft. It appears as if the Goalkeepers are being instructed by their Coaches to stay pinned to their goal line and rely on their defenders to clear these crosses away?
    - Too many times they are being let down by their defender/teammates. (In Celtic’s conceded goal - it was Hatate and/or O’Reilly who shirked their responsibilities with insipid efforts. Every player should understand they all have to play a role in defending in this situation - including heading the ball clear at the highest possible point.)
    - But at the same time, the Keeper also has to take responsibility for assessing the situation and, at the right time, just ‘going for it, and trying to catch the ball or at least punching the crap out of it.
We are seeing 5 or 6 goals like this, per round, being conceded across top flight football. Definitely, a lost skill. And, an area for improvement!
And, offensively - we are not capitalizing on the number of corners we are winning. Very ordinary efforts, to date, by our so-called “big” guys in not getting clean, on-target headers. But this is another topic for another day.
    - The players should not just “talk about it”. They should repeatedly “work on it” at training.

In horse racing there's a theory called 'the bounce factor'.
It refers to horses who come back from a long layoff/break (not injury enforced) and run a cracker on their first race back. People think they are a 'good thing' in their next race but they run flat and below par for no obvious reason.
The theory is something to do with fresh and rested muscles.
I predict that at least some of the Bodo players will be a lot less energetic on Thursday evening. Celtic square the tie and win on pens! HH

Never in the clubs history has a new manager came in and signed so many players.
Every league game from now until the end of the season is a cup final mate, there's more risk to players in the run in.

Hamish, I'm a believer. It's only half time and we are down 3-1. We dominated the match last week. I think we can get an early goal. After 60mins Bodo tired so we can always get our complimentary last-minute equalizer. If it goes to extra time I can only see one winner. I'm going for 4-0 after extra time.

Don't be surprised if Ange starts with 2 defensive midfielders from McGregor, Bitton, McCarthy, plus Jullien for height at set pieces, GG centre forward and either JJ or Scales at left back. This will open Bodo up more, we won't be caught out like the first 2 goals last week and if Jota, Maeda or Abada get space too run, it could be a good night for us. If Ange does start like this and we have not pulled back the 2 goal deficit before 60 mins, then ye, bring on the cavalry. That's the way to beat this team and I think Ange knows it.

  • @Maisy1000

I admire Hamish’s optimism, but I feel getting the 2 goal lead we’d need just to force extra time is asking too much. If we’d been more solid defensively away from home, then I’d be more confident, but I’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if we don’t concede against a side that have already shown they can take their chances. I hope Celtic prove me wrong, but I reckon 1-2 or 2-2 at FT. A good performance with no injuries ahead of Easter Rd is as much as I’m hoping for atm

  • @Torky1965
    @Torky1965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Zones don't score goals player's do, zonal marking does my head in and it let's player's off off the hook, if you lose your man and he scores it's your fault but with zonal marking nobody has to take the blame. Jackie said it himself he doesn't like it either. I've met a few professional footballers over the years and spoke about this and some like it some don't but for me there's no accountability with zonal marking. I know some will say we defend as a team but the amount of goals we lose from set pieces is a joke and it has to be rectified or we could lose this league title. As for what GG said I've got no problem with that he was asked a question and he gave his answer. I don't think Ange would've liked it but if he'd said sevco were favourites then he'd have been slaughtered so he couldn't win in either scenario. I couldn't give a toss about this game tonight for me the league is the priority and if we don't have to play twice a week then that'll help the players recover better for the run in. This tournament is a hindrance to our league aspirations in my opinion and I'd gladly go out tonight. With the riches available for the CL next season we need to stop sevco getting that money to put them out the game for good.
