I used this lens for around 7 years for full-on, power shot locomotive and train photography. Using Fuji Velvia 100 the results were tremendous to say the least.
Now! This is how a lens is supposed to reviewed. Great sample photos. Enough said this is a great lens. Great review. Thanks for your personal experience using the lens. Just what is needed to show performance and image quality. I don't like the reviews with the charts or DXO style reviews. They don't prove anything because the character of the lens can never be conveyed from using charts. Your eyes need to be the judge. I have decided to subscribe. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
I wanted to love this lens very much (though some people've told me to hold back), and your bokeh stills lead me there even more, but then you've laid a final blow with these night shots. They are just gorgeous. I'm absolutely convinced to get this one now, but aside from that - great work, man.
A trully special zoom for special pictures. The color is like nothing else, rich and alive. The barrel and zoom action is short and to the point. The zoom is light and does not creep, for a good day shooting at 300mm , that zoom will beg to look for those compression of the background and accent the perspective, colors, contrast, it is an experience , i am glued to my viewfinder perhaps longer than my others zooms and lenses. I am happy with my one, I treat it as a special occasion zoom because , it is a Rich Zoom. nothing like it.
It does look very versitail, jibes aside, good review man), I think the minoltas are vastly under rated. The real gem is the 100mm F2.8 Macro, that is better than most native lenses and holds its own against GM lenses. Ohh that minolta build quality is something new lenses manufacturers should learn from.
I have both the 100-300 APO and the 100 F2.8 macro, and I use them quite frequently on a Sony A7II+LA-EA3. The 100-300 APO is a nice lens, but the 100 macro is simply outstanding, super sharp corner to corner, a real bargain.
i really like this lens. I'm trying to bid on one on ebay. quick question, do cameras actually make that shutter sound like in your slideshow? Or is that just a movie sound?
I have the A77mii and use the minolta 28-70f2.8g, 80-200 f2.8g , 100mmf2.8 macro 50mm f1.7 and found they all work flawlessly lovely bokeh the one that is worst is the 28-70 a little soft and does not produce as much bokeh with is limited focal throw . cheers for the review I have been thinking about the 100-400apo have you tried one or maybe the 300mm f4
+konaguzzi1 your welcome! have tried the 100-400 in a photostore its much heavier, thats why i decided to buy the 100-300, but if you can get it for a small price, it will be great on a monopod
It's a quite good lens, light, pretty good AF speed, nice bokeh. It's my favorite tele zoom lens. It's no expensive in Taiwan & Japan's 2nd hand market, I used from Dynax5D to α6000, and planning to have an α7ii later.
Hello . Is the "non APO" version worse. I have read some reviews with different perspectives. Some of them said it was not that different and some the opposite. any hints to the matter?
Avoid the non-APO versions, they are not as good. In particular, unless you are using an A-mount camera avoid the 100-300xi, which will not work on E-mount with any adapter.
With the LA-EA4 adapter you can micro-adjust screwdrive lenses like the 100-300 APO - the LA-EA3 used in the video will only work that way with lenses with internal motors (like the Sony 85mm f2.8 he shows). The LA-EA4 will also cope with motorised lenses.
I've tried the Minolta 28-135 4-4.5 lens on the A7 with the LA EA4 adapter and it is a great lens overall and a joy to use as a walkaround...if you don't mind the weight. Anyway, keep it up with the videos! Srecno!
@@andrescarrasco1248 Pretty good. The original A7 af system is far from a speed demon but it worked OK. I would use it for studio work but not for action/sports if focus speed was critical.
hi! i had a question is the regular version APO or is this the D version? does the version matter? should i pick up the D version because it is the newest version? or should i just pick up the non D version? Thanks!
+Jerrold Ramiro not much of a difference, just make shure its in good condition, dont know what you mean with powerzoom, its a 100-300 so not a travel zoom. thx for supporting over the amazon links in the description
@@jayyroll , old post but the XI lenses are power zooms and should be avoided for, I feel, all digital cameras but especially if adapters are required.
Help !, I need a person who knows how to answer a question, I plan to move to full frame, but the lens becomes very big and heavy, I love telephoto lenses, and I really would not like to carry it as a 70-300 g Sony on the street, so I think the best option is adapted lenses, is it better in image quality and autofocus this Minolta 100-300 or a 75-300 Canon 4-5.6 iii both adapted for Sony 7?
Josue aguiñiga valadez if you adapt lenses then you sacrifice af speed and focusing. If you dont want to carry heavy stuff apsc or micro 4/4 is a better option
Your newest best friend is www.dyxum.com, it’s everything Minolta/Sony with stunning lens ratings of all the back catalogue, see what’s great before buying. This lens is better value than the Sony 70-300. Check the rating.
u said this lens automatically gets stabilization . does this means this lens has a builtin stabilization . i am using a6300 which dosnt hav stabilization. how this goona wrk with a6300
Ok, do you still have it or you just borrowed it in the first place? They look like jackpot, but silent autofocus would be quite important, thanks anyways.

Just bought this lens off eBay so watching your review is very timely. Really looking forward to using the lens on my Sony A77ii. Great review btw.

You sir are a GEM! Tremendously wholesome review! Straight and to the point and yet somehow, something more.
Thank you so much!
Pozdrav Drasko, koje je tvoje misljenje da se ovaj objektiv koristi za sport uz A77ii? Jel dovoljno brz AF? Treba mi za neki amaterski fudbal.

Hi! I just ordered this lens for my alpha A7II and I wanted to make sure if I have to buy an adapter for this? If yes, what would you recommend?
hi, congrats, you need the LAEA4 adapter

How do you use it with a6000? with adapter? Tell me if it work well it a6000
shure you can use it with an adapter i linked in the description and it work on the a6000 as well, but the focal length will be longer
yes i understand. I have a6000. But auto focus will not work right? Thanks for the help
Nuno Silva you need the LAEA4 adapter for autofocus, see link in the description
Can you anwer me, please?) It's very important for me. If i'll use very simple adapter i'll focus manually?

Titan Fallx Za A Mount je A99 bolje, jer "adaptirati" je losije.

Th only difference is that the D version has the distance encoder needed for Minolta/Sony's AF-D flash mode.

is it comfortable controlling manual focus in this lens?...like the compact size of this lens and will use it with A7ii
mase boogie shure its smooth to turn

I bought this lens today, in Japan for 2,980 yen which is 26.5 USD... That was the best deal I made.

Where in Japan did you find the lens? I'm thinking of going there sometime this year and would love to get some cheap lenses.

manual focus

Does this work on Sony a5100
