    I JUST BOUGHT THAT LENS. OMG! THANK YOU!
    Context, I just got into full-frame cameras and bought an A7R III and Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 because of all the great things that have been said about it. I bought the latest LE-EA5 Sony A mount to E mount adapter and was so sad that I couldn't autofocus. THEN I FOUND THIS VIDEO THE NEXT DAY. Thank you again for doing this Gary!

      Glad you found it helpful! Of course this was made before the LA-EA5 was released, so I couldn't have said, "The LA-EA5 doesn't work any any camera released before 2021". The LA-EA4 is for you.

      @@FriedmanArchives That's right, and it's just like you said. Zeiss never made a replacement for this lens. Just a fixed 135mm at f/2.8. Sony GM 135mm at f/1.8 is just out of budget. Again, thank you for this video. It's still helping people like me!

    This is a godsend. 2022, my Nex-6 died. Trying to figure out where to go with either a Nex-7 used, A7II, or a 6000 series, all while dealing with many legacy lenses. You made everything clear, and now I can buy used stuff knowing what to buy and how to mix them. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Jurek! All of those lenses should work on an LA-EA5 adapter providing 1) you're using a recent Sony body that supports it (A1, A7 IV, A6600, possibly some others) and 2) you're not trying to shoot video. Sony gave up on that one. I do show a little bit about what to expect with the LA-EA5 in this video: th-cam.com/video/Xy4GZURBkF0/w-d-xo.html

    I loved seeing that Maxxum 9 around 10:15! I sold mine years ago to fund by Maxxum 7D, which I replaced with an A77ii that's still going strong (yes ... I haven't ditched the A mount yet).
    I still have my Maxxum 7, but I wish I hadn't sold the 9. One of the best cameras Minolta (or anyone, for that matter) ever made.

    Thanks for this vidéo Gary. As usual very clear and informative. Just a note as an A-mount shooter myself on A58, A77ii , A99ii and having tried the LAEA3 on A7R2 during 1 full week with my own lenses, I can tell that the transition a to e has for the moment too many cons for A-mounters involved on the A system. Sony must upgrade the adaptors to give at least the AF system of A77ii, at best the one found in A99ii. 3fps in AFC is a major no-go compared to 12fps AFC for example.

    Great video - although there's the version LA-EA5 now of course. I am not sure Minolta put the motor in the lens for cost reasons, at the time this was a sensible engineering move, and most other manufacturers used a similar design - only Canon put a motor in the lens, which did give them an initial advantage. I have a Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 and a number of lenses and am looking to adapt them to an A1 and A7RV with the LA-05 - really appreciate the video. Thanks from the UK.

    wow. Your master class has been absolutely impresive. I'm on a hard looking for a "new-old" camera because my old sony a330 can't afford (or maybe it's me) the photography I want to do. I need to photograph to my daughters on indoor rolling skate and the light is too poor in that kind of sports center. I own a fantastic minolta 80-200 2.8 high speed but if I configure the camera at more than 500 of speed (really I wanted to use it at 1000) I can't take brightness photos because the max iso is 3200 (and I think that more than 800 is not a good idea). so... minolta has screwdriver --> I need LA-EA2 or 4. But if I buy a sony a7 (only a7, with no R, no II, no III....) it's the same? or as it's a full fame I can only buy a LA-EA4 ? Is it usable or I will waste the good as the minolta is? Remember that it's so quick. I don't know what to do because I want to retain my fantastic lens. Or should I buy another camera with high iso? I also looked for alpha 65 or alpha 77 but somebody told me that the translucend mirror remove some light. sorry for a lot of questions.

    I need your opinion on the sony LA-EA adapters.
    I bought a week ago a sony nex 7 because of it´s 24MP , it´s small size and because of its manual focus capabilities. . It was a bargain(under 200€ with the Kit lens).
    I still use a Sony a 58 and i´m happy with it.but after somes hours the bag becomes heavy .
    My idea is to use the Sony nex 7 in a litle bag in my car with one or two of my vintage lenses (minolta and sony lenses ) .
    What model of adapter do you recomend ? La EA 1 or 3 ?

    • @garyfriedman2005

It's the Tamron 70 200mm A001; used old beast of a lens, so not terrible condition considering it's about a decade old. I use the following lenses: SAL70200G f/2.8 + 1.4x doubler, the SAL1650 f/2.8, Planar 85mm f/1.4 and the Sony SAL5014. In APS-C I use the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro and the Tokina 1116 DXII. Here's one of my questions, which adapter should I use for my Sony lenses to work on the A7 models or A9 mirrorless? And what would be your advice for buying a full sensor? The models without mirror or the A99 II (I have 7 batteries and chargers, 2 flashes HVL-F60M, a Sony's battery grip, as you know apart from the APS-C lenses everything works with the A99 II. My hesitation comes from its design date that is getting older. What do you think would be the best choice for a new Sony camera purchase. Thank you Mr. Gary, your opinion will help me.

      I hate questions like these... you're essentially asking me what kind of car you should get. Just as you can't buy a bad car today, you can't buy a bad camera. Your only concern is "which camera meets my needs best?" Which of course I can't possibly answer. If your Sigma and Tamron lenses don't use the screwdriver blade, then you should go for the odd-number adapters for whatever e-mount camera you end up getting. Hope this helps (even a little).

    The autofocus accuracy and speed of the LA-EA4 can't be compared with that of the best Sony SLT cameras. However it is good enough. Nowadays a digital full frame camera is affordable. The Sony a7 camera body can be found new at around 750€. On the other hand nearly all native autofocus full frame e-mount lenses are expensive. The LA-EA4 adapter isn't expensive. It can be found new between 200-250€.
    I use many legacy Minolta a-mount lenses I bought from eBay which are really good. I think that it is a clever choice.
    I really love my Minolta AF 500mm f/8, the only mirror lens with autofocus ever. There is an exact copy of this lens by Sony too. Nearly all of the first Sony a-mount lenses were exact copies of Minolta lens. These sony lenses are more expensive but are the same as Minolta ones.

    • @Lofote
      @Lofote 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the autofocus system of the A65 that was used here. So it is the same as the 65. Of course SLT development continued and even when A65 came out it was stripped down from the A77 system that came out the same day. Thats the problem.

    Great explanation Friedman. I only complaint that it´s a shame Sony La-Ea adapters do not have stabilizer, because if we used it them on the sony e-mount cameras, it´s for used Konica-Minolta and Sony a-mount lenses on that e-mount bodies, and since nex cameras do not have stabilizer on theirs body, it was a must that sony La-ea adapters have it, for use lenses without stabilizer, since a-mount sony cameras has in-body. So, it´s a shame Sony do not put stabilizer on theirs La-Ea adapters. If we want to use a telezoom lenses, like Minolta 75-300 af D, you must higher the iso and shutter speed to compensated the lacks stabilizer.
