    I think the coldness coming from Belle is because all the shots we see of her talking are when she is in the middle of some conflict or other. I expect the scenes with her father and when she gets to know the beast, It'll be a bit warmer

      that along with it's one trailer this makes it look like we've seen 3 trailers already. Should probably hold off the negativity before we get a little overboard about it

      Yep, we must keep in mind the context of the scenes. It's not the first time Emma has acted with things that weren't there, or fantastical settings. She can do lively emotion as she proved in "perks of being a wallflower", so I'm optimistic she'll be able to do it when it's called for here.
      Give Emma a chance Grace, she just may surprise you. :)

    Completely agree with you on Emma Watson, she still acts like Hermione in my opinion. And the Beast looks like a Faun on steroids. Beyond that the rest looks good.

    • @DavidM_10
      @DavidM_10 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      lol. The Faun on steroids. Nailed it.
      And yeah, Emma Watson seems a little too ... cold. Like she's still playing bossy Hermione instead of Belle. But in that scene they show she seems to be meeting Beast for the first time, and her father has been imprisoned, so she wouldn't be warm and pleasant. So it could work out OK in the movie.

      Britt Weasley ... And, in the first part of the trailer, Belle (Watson) just discovered her father in one scary situation: no wonder the lady doesn't look all "warm" or bubly 🤔 🤔.

      I have to disagree for me it's a miscast. Emma always have that smartass face, smart girl kind of face, zombie survival. Which is contradict with Belle who's supposed to be innocent, gentle, naive.
      You only like her cause she's Hermione. not because she's Belle. As much as Jennifer Lawnren as Katniss, not Mistique. I mean look at that picture 4:52 she look like she about to murder someone, most likely Draco

    The thing is Emma works better as a supporting character.
    Her best performance as of today is still the one from The Perks of Being A Wallflower. She was likeable, vulnerable, charismatic. And she also did an okay job in Noah, where she also was a supporting character.
    Maybe she's not cut out to lead? But judging her performance based on the trailer is jumping the gun a bit, wait and see.

    Let's face it, Emma was cast for name recognition alone, even though a film like this doesn't need a "star" it comes with a buil in fanbase. Emma is just okay in everything: looks, acting, singing. I'm sure there were far more beautiful and talented actresses that could have won over audiences but they don't come attached with a multi billion dollar franchise which is a shame because I think she will be the most disappointing part of this movie. I guess Jungle Book didn't teach Disney that name recognition isnt needed, especially for already established properties. Just hire the best talent. End of.

    • @Avatariuz
      @Avatariuz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And thats the problem today with Disney, they shove too much money on big names just to get attention, not thinking about the movies how they will turn out. Disney has become heartless towards movies.

    • @Avatariuz
      @Avatariuz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @nickkarras3425
      @nickkarras3425 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The same is happened with Maleficent ,if Angelina Jolie didn't take the role , the movie would not be a box office hit and now we wouldn't talk for any live action movie of Disney . Angelina made good job in movie ,but the other actors not all. Now Disney live actions have grear cast in all roles .

    • @pixigirl999
      @pixigirl999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Going forward, with the success of The Jungle Book which had zero onscreen stars I hope Disney realizes that mega stars are not necessary especially for these already established properties. People will go to see these kinds of movies because they are good. I understand Emma wanted the role but she was not a good fit. There is a reason why literally every post Harry Potter movie she has done has flopped. She has supporting actress written all over her. And now they let this movie rest on the shoulders of an actress that doesn't have the chops. I sincerely hope the supporting cast is strong enough to make up for her shortcomings.

    Are you kidding me? Emma looks fantastic as Belle and the perfect actress to bring this character to life! I had chills when she screamed No! I also love the Beast which doesn't look like a goat, it's only a little bit different than the animated one but still great. The direction, score, sets, costumes are top notch too.....this film is gonna be one of the biggest events of 2017 !!!!

  • @QuiJon
    @QuiJon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    Again you missed the point entirely. Belle is not supposed to be a warm out going person, she is supposed to be a young woman who feels totally out of place with her world. She cared for her father, and felt the rest of the world was not worth her time or attention and put that part of herself into the imaginary world of the books she read. If anything belle is learning how to be social, and to care for new people. Her first impressions of the beast should and do reflect in this movie from what I have seen, the same interest that she had in Gaston. Her story arc is learning to see beyond the superficial appearances just as much as beast's is to open up enough to get someone to see beyond his appearance. But more over if you don't like her performance in the trailer I get it, that is your opinion. However I don't really like the idea that you substantiate that opinion and try to give it more worth by saying you got a mysterious tweet from a studio employee. Getting a tweet or not, if they are not willing to go on record, and prove themselves to you that they are who they claim to be, then it should not even be mentioned in your review or impressions. There was another nameless source given before saying that Wonder Woman was a total hot mess in that WB letter, but when you like a trailer I don't see you still giving a word of caution because a nameless studio hack has said its a cluster fuck of a movie. But when you want to find fault with a trailer, you have no problem using nameless sources to give yourself more weight.

    • @haenakim8969
      @haenakim8969 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fuck are you on about? Lmao. Belle don't give a shit. That's what's was so different about her. So didn't care if she wasn't "social". And how is she not outgoing if all she cared about was "finding adventure in the great wide somewhere". She IS supposed to be warm and inviting. Which is what breaks down the Beast. Like Belle taking care of his injuries.
      And who said she was basing her opinions off of that tweet? She was saying that her performance that was shown in the trailer adds truth to it. Bc Emma Watson IS lifeless as Belle. It doesn't matter if it's just the scenes they portrayed in the video, I already knew she couldn't do it as Belle. Her lines were awkward. Her facial expressions look forced when she sees the Rose and Lumierre. Her overall look doesn't scream Belle. Stop getting pissy over Grace's criticism. You say you get its her opinion yet state that "she missed the whole point". You really think she missed the whole point of a movie she researches about?

    • @QuiJon
      @QuiJon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haena Kim It is so nice to know that you want to get pissy about other peoples opinions of a movie that we all waited to see footage of where you proclaim "I already knew she couldn't do it as belle." Now if you actually listen to the entire song at the beginning of the animated movie, the entire thing is the town singing about how strange belle is. Yes she has a few friends, but largely ignores most of the people in the town because they don't seem to get her. Belle does give a shit, as a clue to how involved in her stories she gets. She craves "adventure" and wants more then what the "provincial town" can offer her. She has made that determination and has therefore created an cold persona to those in the town other then the few that feed her desire for adventure. When she first meets Beast, this is just par for the course. Where the town is trying to change belle into what they feel she should be, Beast is going one step further in taking away her desired life by locking her away. And so at first she is cold to him. Recall in the movie she would not even eat with him or come out of her room. Belle is closed off and lifeless just as beast has become cruel. And each needs the other to open up. So if you don't get that or don't see it, I have no issue with that. But I think that so far the movie looks great. My point in calling out grace was that in her review she goes out of her way to quote a unknown source to give her opinion more weight in being right. However she doesn't when the opinions are opposite her as the Wonder Woman comments we have read, go out of her way to point out that she could be for the 3rd time with DC talking about how great a movie looks that she later, after securing ticket sales for WBs, says is not good. Everyone can have their opinion, but she is attempting to say her opinion must be more right then others because a tweet from an unknown source claiming to be from the studio says she is right.

    • @eventplanner461
      @eventplanner461 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      QuiJon yea,but you have to keep in mind the towns people only seemed to care about things that weren't important. As if to say she's strange and odd because of her wonder of thee unknown. Or her craving to learn and read. Also I don't think she was ignoring them in a way where she creates a cold persona towards them as if to say she thinks indifferently towards them and if she did it's probably because they were shallow to an extant and thought indifferently towards her father. Your making it seem as if she's cold hearted or anti social. She's still a very warm person,just look at her reponse towards people.Also the woman in the video said she would take the comment with a grain of salt seeing that it hasn't been verified. I'm pretty sure she

    I liked Emma but I think the thing is that she's best at playing clever, feminist girls, which is very much what she is, of course. I wanna see the whole thing but I guess Belle is going to be similar to Hermione in the movies and I can live with that (also I'm just such a huge fan of her as a person that I'm willing to forgive almost everything). What I'm more concerned about is some of the objects; I liked Lumiere but I agree, Mrs Potts looked super creepy, that was a bit weird. I don't really have a problem with the beast, I think he's the right combination of animal and human, I think it's fine. I wish they'd shown us a few scenes of the musical numbers but I guess they're not giving that away just yet. We'll see, I'm excited!

      Steve Khan exactly! and even though she doesn't look anything like belle from the animated movie, this is a real life adaptation guys, have an open mind. cinderella and the prince from the 2015 movie doesn't resemble the animated chatacters, but it's fine for me. as long as this movies stick to the original story line, and have some minor adjustments, additions and whatnot, i'm sure it'll be great. i can't wait :)

    I actually really loved the Beauty and The Beast trailer. It's not perfect. It's live action adaption of the 1991 animated film and the 1740 romantic fantasy folktale. To me... it looks like a gothic horror film and romantic fairytale combined and thanks interesting and unique. If people are complaining and nit picking about certain things that aren't in the trailer or complaining that not an "accurate depiction", of the animated film, you have the option not see this film. But, if you want to see this film, go enjoy yourself. If you love it great, but if you don't, you don't have watch every again. It's your choice as fan or general movie audience member to pick & choice what interest you, what inspires, or what you are curious about or nervous about when going to see movies.

      To be fair guys, animated Belle isn't all that either. Even legendary Disney animator Andreas Deja - who animated Gaston, has said he never understood the choice behind her design, that she is very plain looking for a character that is supposed to be a knockout.
      I do think Emma is even more bland, and she has very sharp features instead of Belle's round, tender features, that someone like Lily Collins has. That's just a personal nit-pick and I'd look over it if she really embodied the character in her perfomance, but I really don't think that's gonna be the case judging by her previous work and these set/ promotional photos and trailer lol.

    the scenes they showed her in, were the more serious parts in the movie so.. yea it's going to seem that she isn't interested. I mean just like in the movie she wanted nothing to do with the Beast and she was scared. She lost her dad and her freedom. there is still alot to see. I think people are judging too early.

    I was actually surprised that Emma showed more emotional reaction that she ever did in any HP movies. Her voice does not reflect her emotions, but the look of horror she gets when she sees the Beast was well acted. She still isn't amazing, but I won't make any final judgments until I see the movie. Overall, excellent trailer that I plan on watching a few dozen more times.

    I hear your comments about Emma Watson being somewhat cold here, but I hesitate to put too much blame on her (she's really only been playing that type of role since early Hermione days). I think this is an active decision by Disney to shift the character of Belle. Seems to be a running theme with all Disney princess properties these days. Not just live action but animation as well. Not sure that's totally the right move because Cinderella, probably the closest characterization to the original was highly successful. But I mean that did have Cate Blanche as that strong female role. (To some degree same with Maleficent). I wonder if Disney is just more conscientious about having too many damsel types and need to make sure that strong women are represented in every film....

    Maybe this is due to Emma's performance or maybe it's because of the editing for the trailer but she looks either scared or worried for about 90% of the trailer, which is disappointing-that's not what we got from the animated version of Belle. That's definitely a downer for a first trailer and for as beautiful as this one is. Another thing, I was expecting to see some singing and more dancing, although I like the darker look for this. It will no doubt be an amazing movie and great to see when all the elements come together. It's nowhere near as strong of a trailer as Cinderella or even The Jungle Book had, but I don't want to judge a whole movie off of one preview. I'm still looking forward to this one.

  • @luckdragongirl

    I think it's hard to judge Belle by this trailer since most of it is reaction, reaction, reaction. For a person who is a reader, that type of character probably wouldn't be as over-the-top to reacting to a Beast or enchanted objects. That person would probably react more in a dream, kind of more stoic in that they have imagined this type of thing before but it hasn't "hit" yet. The reaction to Chip seemed genuine, and the scene with Mrs. Potts is at a point where the character of Belle is being stubborn. After meeting a walking/talking Beast, the enchanted objects would be a piece of cake. I do think they should have used the Broadway musical for how the Beast should have looked. The lack of teeth (it looks like slight, thin teeth are visible from the top when the mouth is closed) looks decidedly un-Beast-like. Even taking away the animated motion picture, people associate wild animals with large teeth. The visible teeth would really help the overall look of the character. The costume reminds me of a cross between the Disney Beast and the late 80s Ron Perlman Beast since he was kind of like a cross between a human and one animal (lion) without visible teeth. I don't know if this is part of the continuing dumbing down of "children's" movies (they certainly didn't mind scaring kids in the 1980s) to make the Beast less scary, if it is because some of the costume is a practical effect and the teeth would have made it harder for the actor to talk/emote with, if this is based somewhat on an illustrated copy of the story, or what. It's not what I would have done, and I certainly also would have had the horns point forward like the animated character. But, it is what it is. The whole point is to get past the looks of the Beast, so I can get past this. As for the enchanted objects, I don't mind their designs. Making them extremely cute would have taken away from the set, and what a set, huh? They made them look like they were a part of this ultra elaborate, richly detailed castle. They probably did some research on objects from the time period too. I understand why they aren't doing the music in this trailer. I imagine they want to save that as a surprise. I'm just glad they are doing a live action movie that looks based on the movie unlike "Maleficent." Sorry to those that like that movie, but I hated the backstory, I despised what they did to the fairies, I hated the ending, etc. Most iconic Disney villain gets turned into a tragic heroine? I'm so tired of the "villain has a tragic backstory and is more complicated than you think" story line. Everyone's doing this nowadays. The first time it was done was interesting and intriguing, but sometimes you just want to see a villain be a villain for no other reason than they are evil.

    I'm calling it right now, Ian McKellan as Cogsworth is going to steal the whole movie.

Her expression seems warm here and so i have hope that there is more of that version of Belle. I think the background and set design is gorgeous and rich. There is so much detail and it goes so quickly, it is amazing. And I really like the music in this trailer; which makes me excited to hear the actual singing. I have a lot of hope for this movie. Interesting casting choice because with Cinderella, they really went out of their way to pick a very Disney princess esque actress who was quite smiley and warm, she really seemed to embody the Disney look. While I love Emma Watson she is quite plain in my opinion, and her acting here seems quite wooden and out of place in the fantasy world she inhabits. She just seems to real of a person for this movie is that makes sense.

    I mean no disrespect to Emma, but Belle is suppose to be to beautiful that "her looks have got no parallel", I'm sorry although Emma is lovely she's not breath-takenly beautiful/ The Beast wasn't ugly enough either lol. You're suppose to be awe inspired by ones beauty and the other ones ugliness. It just isn't happening here.
    As far as Mrs. Potts, I can sort of see the problem. How they designed her pot left little to animate her features and show feeling. It's basically a blank space with mouth and eyes.
    Still I want to see it. :)

    Honestly though, as a musician, what bugged me the most was how rigid Menken and Ashman's score felt in the opening. Whoever is doing the music needs to record with real musicians, because you can tell it's computer sounds. Needs far more rubato and flexibility to make the music sing.

    I said the same thing about Emma in the comments to your last Beauty and the Beast video... she just isn't the right person to be Belle. I haven't seen anything to prove that she's an actress with any any amount of range. She's too cold and always seems angry or annoyed, which is kind of how she played Hermione. I think people liked her in the Potter movies because people already liked Hermione, not because she made Hermione likable. Fortunately for her I'm guessing the movie is still going to do very very well no matter what she does.

    Emma Watson has so much personality but it doesn't translate into her acting. Her Hermione was very humorless, especially in the later movies, which was a letdown because the character in the book was very over-the-top in her nerdiness and over-eargerness. Rupert Grint as Ron had to perform 99% of the comic relief by the last few movies, when in the book they were BOTH funny characters.

    For Emma's performance I think she did pretty good in this trailer
    It's like the animated version Belle was not feeling the whole captive thing at the start. She didn't care for the beast she just stayed locked in her room with the other objects and even talked back at him, THEN she warms up to everyone especially the beast. Idk I love Emma so I can't imagine her being a disappointment.
    The beast design is eh like you said I wished it looked more like the animation, a mix of creatures not manly goat.

    I honestly think Emma will be wonderful. The problem with the trailer is they mostly showed her in scenes that are supposed to be angsty, so she seems stiff, but she's supposed to. I think once we see the whole movie, we'll also see her gradually thaw out and show more emotion as the beast wins her over.

  • @harrisonlang6177
    @harrisonlang6177 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    i think what happened with this trailer is that last week we all got to hear about how progressive this version of Belle is going to be, and that was in preparation for this trailer. I think her warmth is going come in the scenes that wouldn't necessarily make a live action trailer for BATB interesting. I say this because of the look she gives chip, and the look she gives the beast when they're touching that horse (maybe that's when she sings Something There!) I have a hard time believing that people on the crew had a problem with her performance, especially since Menken said she IS Belle to him now (and that's a huge statement because between Paige O'Hara and Susan Egan, she has pretty big shoes to fill). I still have faith, although i still think they missed the mark on the yellow dress -_-

    I agree Emma Watson is ill with Kristen Stewart syndrome and is so disappointing

    The Emma Watson casting surprised me. She isn't the first actress that comes to mind when thinking of Belle. I agree she doesn't seem to be showing Belle's sweetness in what has been released so far. Reserving final judgement til I see the actual film though.

    The actual original story is so much darker than Disney would ever put out.

    I love Emma as belle, I don't know what people are seeing. But I'm seeing more people liking Emma as belle online than people who don't. I just think that with movies you really want to like you end up being more critical grace. I hope this doesn't start to ruin the movie for you. I believe in Disney and it's casting and I don't think they would have cast someone that isn't right for belle. Anyway I love the look of the beast in this trailer and I think gaston is going to be a lot of people's favourite character. Honestly this movie I think is going to be a hit.

    I'm sorry - I couldn't stop laughing when you said the beast looks like a goat man! I couldn't put my finger on it until now

    The best part of the trailer for me was Gaston

    I feel like your wrong on Emma Watson. You have to remember, she was taught to act one way half of her life, now that she is able to widen her skills you have to give her some credit. She use to live in a world where magic was normal, now she has to act like shes 11 again and see magic as a brand new thing. just remember that!

    I think you're not seeing much of Emma because they don't want to give away any of her performance in the trailer. She's one of the big draws to this film. I feel like they're giving away more of the beast in this than they are belle because really Emma is what's going to draw in the audience.

    It looks awesome. I wanted to cry ugh. Cool what they did with Dan Stevens voice i had no idea it was him. Also Kevin Kline sounds british here. The little lad voicing Chip is he the lad from into the woods.

      Juan Navarro I'm sure because even though the trailer is short, there are so many shots and so many things she wants to cover.
