  • In this video we will have a look at the HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT. I will do a full teardown, followed by a re-assembly and some benchmarks.
    The model of the ProDesk 400 G6 I have at hand is the microtower or MT, equipped with an Intel Core i7 9700, 16GB DDR4, 512MB NVMe SSD and a NVIDIA GeForce GT730.

    I have a similar system but running a 10th gen i5. Another 16gb ram stick would give you a nice boost with dual channel. Also a nice graphics card is an Nvidia T600. It has 4gb of ddr6, performs really well and only consumes 40w so is ok with the meagre 180w psu. Great vid. :)

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree about the RAM but 32GB seems overkill for my plans with the PC. Ideally it should've been 2x8GB.
      Didn't know about the T600, seems like that is performing similarly like a 1050 Ti, will check it out. Thanks!

      @@jensdbe Aye it's a tricky one with the ram. Sometimes you can find the T600's for a non rip off price, good luck!

    Would two 3.5” drives fit together at the same time in the drive tray? Looking to get one of these for a NAS & plex server.

    If the psu got a 6pin or 8pin for gpu that would be great. 180w is abit low.

    Such an interesting review ❤ thank you! Tell me just one thing, please: will gt730 work with a 180 W power supply unit?

    • @jensdbe

      A GT730 uses around 45W so that should be fine.

    I have the same computer, however mine does lack the graphics card, I am looking forward to maybe add some new lowprofile Low Consumption card in order to play decently maybe games such as rdr2... Also the power supply of 180W doesn´t help. I will be thankfull for any opinion on any option for gaming, or if i should forget about it. THANK YOU

    Can you put a SFX PSU to power the motherboard perhaps via a 24pin adapter to HP proprietary connectors (if any)?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need an adapter and most likely the PSU won't fit properly in the designated space for it in the case.

    There is a chance you get hands on a HP ProDesk 800 G5 twr (tower)
    I heard it has 500w power supply Which i find very interesting this kind of "office machine" Also it has a slot for a full size Disc Driver
    And you can put in 75w TDP or even bigger card with standard shape ( like not low-profile)
    ( Actually no matter the series of prodesk like HP ProDesk x00 Gx TWR but the tower case i literally very curious what is inside.
    The number of HP ProDesk (400-600-800) usually referer the Mother board equipment (sata slot, ram slot usb...etc)
    The G Number is the series referer the cpu and chipset like G5 is about the gen 8xxx intel cpu... G6 is the gen 9xxx...

    So is it impossible to put in a psu that isnt HP? Like i want to use a gpu that requires psu upgrade. So the psu i have cam physically fit in the case but the problem is the connectors. Is there no way i can just use some type of adapters.

      There are conversion cables on the market that convert a regular ATX power connector to the HP specific 6 pin + power command.

      I did replace these a few times before (Arctic) and that worked without issues. Just make sure you have the same fan type and connector (number of pins)

    • @jensdbe

      The socket doesn't say much unfortunately. It's mainly the chipset and BIOS that determine the CPU support. Unfortunately only the CPUs listed on HPs specsheets are working as far as I know.

    Its posible to change the PSU and put vga card like RX580?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that there are 3rd party power supplies that claim to be compatible (see Aliexpress, Amazon,...) which have a higher rating. You'd need at least 450W. For the RX580, not sure if the card will physically fit in the case. A GTX1650, which is typically significantly shorter hardly fits. Personally I think a GTX1650, which is not a lot slower than the RX580 would be an easier option as it doesn't require a PSU upgrade. Have a look at my recent video on the ProDesk 400 G5 where I did that: th-cam.com/video/20PVxwp5Mk0/w-d-xo.html

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      The motherboard has custom HP form factor. As you can see, the front buttons/LEDs and front USB are fixed on the board. This means it will not fit in a regular/standard case without serious modifications.
