instead of bandaids I use the white sport-tape (or athletic tape) to cover my blister spot. also works wonders and is gentle to the skin

Same! Just avoid the cheapest athletic tape (not sticky enough) and don't be afraid to use a lot of it. It works best when it is stuck to itself, so I use a strip across my heel that is long enough to reach forward of my leg, where I then run another strip around my foot vertically to secure everything.

Tried some "blister free" double layer socks 30 years ago. I am guessing they have improved because the ones I had were "free blister" socks.

For ski boots I usually glue moleskin to my heels with medical glue (like rubber cement). Usually lasts all day and sometimes a couple of days.

I have a pair of boots where only the right boot gives me a blister every time I wear them. I'm perplexed because I don't feel a difference between them. I tried wearing 3 pairs of socks.
