    Valuable new infirmation based upon experience and learning attitude. Not seen elsewhere on line or in climbing groups.

    Great video but I am not sure it really helped me. I am trying to buy hiking boots for my daughter and as she walks around in them at home the back of the boots digs into her achilles tendon and I don't know if this is to do with the boot just being poorly designed or something else. Leather boots wear in but I am not sure if that is true of synthetic boots with Gortex lining...

      Sounds like the boot doesn’t fit. I have to wear bandaids to keep blisters away on my heels.

    Good tips.
    One more: I have only had Achilles pain from mid-high boots.
    Maybe it is just me, but mid-highs are not as comfortable as shoes, and less supportive than full-height boots.
    So: Shoes or real boots for me, please.

    Thank you so much. Couldn't finish my hike on Saturday because my right achilles tendon made it impossible to go down hill, together with my right-foot toes banging the toe box. I still feel the pain today. I have been researching the reason why, and I see your video.
    This is wonderful info', since most videos only talk of blister in conjunction with lacing.
    Keep up the good job sir.

      Sorry to hear about the rough hike due to the toe pain. I hope this helped!

    Hi Arron, this is such valuable information (I wish I knew before my 6 day tramp) I had 2 days of ascent and and my archilles was shot I had to wear my crocs on the descent cause my archilles couldn't take it anymore. Its interesting that we will change the harness on our backpacks when climbing or descending but never think to adjust our boots. Thanks for the information!

    You’ve just saved me from buying the wrong boots! I had two to try, the pair I thought was the better of the two epically failed the toe tap test, whilst the other passed with flying colours! Thank you! 🙏

    Very useful, and its sad not a lot of hiker videos even mention this. It does makes a lot of sense

    Thanks for this video! I’ve had the exact problem you described with my Achilles 4 days in my multi day hike, I ended up having to stop walking for a couple of days, and threw out my boots for trail running shoes.

    How tall should the boot go up along the calve? I had a lot of achilles pain while hiking, I couldn't tell whether it was because the boot was too high or it could've been that the laces were too tight suffocating my achilles (now I'm finding out)

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming your boots are loose enough, it's usually the laces. If you have combat style mid-calf boots, they'll be fine with loser laces.
