  • The best way to avoid blisters is definitely to have boots that fit you properly and comfortably, but even then there are ways you can get caught out. Our editor Will claims to be a bit of an expert when it comes to avoidance. In fact, as he says at the start of this video, he's hiked thousands and miles and 'never had any foot problems'.
He's recently been out in Snowdonia where he captured some of his foot care tips and tricks. Watch to find out what product is crucial for him, see his alternative (but very effective) lacing method and discover this other interesting methods over the course of a bivy adventure.

Great videos mate. Only just become aware of your channel.
So you don’t recommend double socking then to help avoid blisters? I’ve got some light weight bridgdale socks and a heavier weight one that I always assumed would cut down on friction when worn together? Thanks in advance.

Thanks - glad you like them! Always grateful for positive feedback. I've never gone for the double sock approach, you often hear people saying that it doesn't help and if anything could make things worse. It might work for you though - you never know! Tbh I'd be more inclined to just wear one pair and make sure that pair are good quality. Medium-weight and high merino content seems to work for me for three-season walking. Will

Will, great video as always! I’m trying to work it out - which boots are you wearing?

Thanks Chris. Much appreciated. They're the Hanwag Banks GTX. Here's a vid with some of my thoughts on it. Will

The problem with rounded laces compared to flat laces is that they come loose too easily if wrap once and then one knot is created.
I shall try your method to wrap the laces 3 times and then make one knot.
I would normally wrap once and try to create 2 knots, but the length of the laces usually isn't really long enough for shoes and hiking shoes.

1000 Mile are worth looking into. They make two-layer models designed to prevent friction. Will
