Some people it just takes longer than others to pick up something new. It doesn’t matter if it’s crocheting or learning how to swim or ride a bike or whatever interest them. Sometimes it just takes a little longer if you enjoy it and he sees that you enjoy it then maybe he’ll be inspired. Good luck my friend.

Pyotr Leflegin they're really as many many many of us out here. I think as a man it is one of those things that is hushed. it's not considered manly in our current Society to crochet. What a shame because I think many men have what it takes to be darn good at this craft.

If you are a crocheter, they tend to push you into Continental (German) knitting. I found the English (American) method to be much slower, simpler, and deliberate, so I am sticking to that for now. // I have trigger fingers and carpal tunnel syndrome. Recently, I purchased two Futuro Night Wrist Sleep Support braces on Amazon. Maybe they could help your fibromyalgia. It's like giving your hands a vacation every night. // I just discovered the Boye ergonomic crochet needles at Walmart. I like them, but you have to be careful because I have noticed that the hook is not always squared with the handle. Sometimes, they are turned. They sell them in sets, but I bought some individually just for this reason. // I look forward to trying out the basket weave stitch. Good luck with your videos!
This is great and yes lots of guys crochet and knit....a lot of women brag about how well we guys can do this old artform. I myself have been crocheting about 55-58 yrs atleast and have known how to knit as well...my grandmother was a knitter and fast at that....I picked it up from her.....just fascinated by being able to turn "string'' into something wearable, at that time was slippers and scarves she would make all of us grandkids...26 to be exact. My mom Grandma's oldest daughter was a crochet lady and I can't remember her ever knitting. I was the youngest of 9 children....I picked it up by watching her...while watching tv back in the early 50's. Directions came EASY for me for some reason. I followed on my own... I can NEVER hold the needle like this young man does like a drumstick basically. I hold it like you hold pen to write with. I am also left handed and two of my sisters were left handed....and my mom could not teach them because she herself was right handed. So I ttaught both of my older sisters to crochet. But none of my siblings took to it like I did. My wife crocheted as well, we did late at nite, while sons were asleep....that is the COMFORT time to relax. Only time I ever crochet is LATE at nite when most people sleep. I can crochet a man's scarf in one evening while watching tv...make hats too in one evening.....I've even made a full large lap sized afghan in two to three evenings. It is weird for me to watch people crochet holding the needle like a drumstick. I can crochet a lot smoother and faster by holding it like one holds a pen or pencil to write with. There is a definite stigma about guys crocheting, we're one of those " don't come out of the closet groups". My wife is a knitter and she has on more than one occasion tried to teach me, i just didn't pick up on it. I also had a hard time because of the thinness of the needles. On a whim I picked up a couple crochet hooks and picked it up right away. But, I am fairly private about it, straight guys just aren't supposed to do things like that. But then I consider guys like football player Rosie Grier, and ex-marine R. Lee Ermey, anyone loco enough to challenge their manhood? And yet, I don't let it out very often. My daughter and granddaughter, while thinking it's a "bit weird", love the gifts they get and often come to me with a request. In your comment about Fibromyalgia, have you ever tried the Clover Soft Touch hooks? The standard small, round hooks were painful for me, it didn't take long before my fingers would begin to ache and cramp. I went to these hooks and have never looked at anything else. Instead of round, they're flat, and while that sounds uncomfortable, they aren't at all.
I can only work on my projects for a short time then the pain gets to me. I have not tried them however I will look into it. the pain has increased in my hands considerably in the last three or so years. Thanks for the info.

The fact that you can knit is awesome. Don't berate yourself for not being able to crochet. If you want to learn there's plenty of tutorials on here. ( you tube). Ive been crocheting all my life and I tried knitting, plain and purl is it for me. There's lots of different styles to crochet that I've learned here. Hats off to any guys who knit and crochet.
