    Elise ! There is no difference at all between "saint" and "sein" in the pronounciation ! Do not worry ! I'm French and to be honest I always understood the title of your channel despite the slight struggle - and was actually quite happy that you had a French channel name, it was original and now that you said the reason I just find it really wholesome. I didn't mind the pronounciation, it does not matter, the least is to try and you did and it was great. I am glad you have found a new name that suits you better, but please don't be self-conscious about trying to learn/speak another language, because it's an amazing thing to do !

      Oh Mon Dieu, I'm also French, and I confess I laughed when you spoke about Saint and Breast. The prononciation is identical, no reason to be ashamed.
      And by the way, a saint woman is unE saintE (Feminin), but a hook is uN crochet (Masculin). So I was never surprised by the name of your channel. I was just thinking of an inside joke.
      No matter the name, thank you for your content 🥰.

      Yeah I really didn’t understood the comment with “sein” like did it come from a French person? Because they are the exact same prononciation. You are right Elise it’s the same as pear and pair, we have lots of words like that (ex. Vert (green), verre (glass), ver (worm) or vers (a poem’s verse) is pronounce the same)
      But anyway I love your channel thanks for your work! 🥰

    Beautiful new name. Especially because of the story behind it.

    Hi Elise! From one Rose to another, I love your new channel. My name was my grandmother's too, and she was my person. I miss her. She taught me about St. Theresa a long time ago. I prayed to her when I had cancer and got an answer in 6' tall roses at my local Costco. They were right at the front door. I am 15 years cancer free! I am a believer. Your name is very pretty and everyone will love it as much as we love your content ❤️. Have a great weekend 😊

    I think your reasons for changing the name of your TH-cam channel are spot on. And I love your new name, “Elise Rose Crochet”. ❤ My ear isn’t good enough to hear those subtle differences in language either. I admire your ability to be flexible. Enjoy your new name and adventure! 🎉

  • @darlingdarcysbjd

    As a Korean language student I can tell you that us Americans definitely have difficulty hearing subtle differences in sounds that some other languages have. I’m not able to hear the difference between those French words either. I like the new name and I think the story behind it and all the fun coincidences that happened is great and makes it even more special.

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Oh I can only imagine how hard it is to hear those differences in Korean! 🌹

    • @woolfriends
      @woolfriends ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Someone wrote in the comments that there is no difference in sound 😀 only in spelling.

    • @kj3d812
      @kj3d812 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @darlingdarcysbjd, there's actually a physical reason for Americans having difficult hearing subtle differences in language sounds: it has to do with the pitch range (inflection) in American English. The range is much wider than with some other languages such as French. In French, the pitch inflections are primarily very close to each other, and the ears and brains of native French speakers are trained early on to hear these subtle differences. With American English, the wider range means fewer subtleties in pitch variations, which then means our ears and brains are not trained to pick up subtleties, but more "broad brush strokes."
      I myself tried to learn French as an adult when I moved to Montreal, and it was extremely difficult for me, despite I have a degree in music and my ear is trained to pick up tiny subtleties in pitch. This subtlety vs "broad stroke" inflections are not limited to American English and French, obviously -- as you say, Korean apparently has subtleties difficult for us "broad stroke" folks to hear. 🙂 I learned about this pitch-range facet to learning languages a number of years ago when I first started trying to learn French, and I've never forgotten it. At least I know I'm not just "dumb" for not hearing tiny inflections!

    I love the new channel name. Makes much more sense. And since my daughter's name is similar to yours (Emily Rose) Elise Rose will be very easy for me to remember. LOL!! I am also a soapmaker and had a soap biz for almost 10 years and one thing I found out was that if you have to explain your business name, you need another name. I used an old English spelling of a word in my name and forever had to explain why it was spelled that way. I thought people would get it , but they didn't. Lesson learned. I have a soap business name I would just love to use if I would re-open, but there is a French word in it and I know I would butcher it, so while I love the name and it is beautiful and perfect for a soap business, I will never use it because you should be able to pronounce the name of your own business. If I was French and living in US, it might make sense to use it, but being an American and using a French word that I struggle to pronounce, makes no sense to me. Now that you have made this decision, it is onward and upward for you.

    Love your name change! Much easier on you and us. I love your channel, Elise! I've just started doing amigurumi and finished my first one, a somewhat lopped sided fried egg. It's not perfect and not good enough to sell but I'm still proud of it like you are with your first little bunny. I wish I had found you sooner. I've been crocheting with cotton 5 to 8 hours a day for at least 5 months getting ready for a craft show and man, my hands are letting me know it. When I tried to do the fried egg for a second time my hands refused to work! They hurt and go numb on me so I've been resting them for a week and putting salve on them. Guess I better lay off the cotton for awhile. I love using it and I especially love Lion Brands 24/7 cotton. Beautiful colors and the stitch definition it does is fabulous! I'm starting my amigurumi with 100% acrylic so that should be better for my hands. Keep up the goodwork and my condolences on the loss of your little dog. We have a lot of senior dogs in our home and we love them all! Good luck with your name change!

    Hi just to explain the difference between breast blood and saint in french. for a female we say sainte. so because le is masculine saint too and yes breast in french and saint sound the same thing (i hope this comment is readable I'm from Quebec in Canada and a part of us don't speak English verry well, we speak french)

    Elise, whatever the name of your channel, I will follow. I was able to teach myself to crochet this past winter in large part due to you. I was very depressed and crying a lot due to unfortunate circumstances. Your encouraging and gentle manner, acknowledgment of mistakes being normal made all the difference to me between quitting and persevering considering my confidence was almost nonexistent then.
    Thank you for lifting me up and for continuing to help me progress, in more than just crochet, everyday.

    Elise, I truly enjoy watching your videos. I have in the past have heard you mentioned your home is in North Carolina. I am a resident here also. I started watching your TH-cam videos when I was going thru a summer of illness in 2021and the lost of my Dad. Crochet has helped me thru this difficult time in my life. I just find comfort in yarn and the wonderful feeling of happiness I have by giving these Crochet gifts. So thank you so very much for your words of encouragement and time to unwind.

    Great, I think changing the name was a good idea. I lived many years in France, with lots of Americans around me and the old name definitely was hard for Americans to pronounce 😊 But I understand it wasn't easy to change after you got the 100K play button on the old name. For that reason, it took me about 6 months to dare to change the name of my channel, which used to be Crochet and Knitting with Tuula Maaria, so it was just dropping the word 'knitting' because I have so little of that on the channel.

      I agree! I took French for 4 years, spent some weeks in France at 20, and rarely satisfied any Parisian shop keeper. Other French speakers were more accepting, but I gave up my efforts after the age of 21. My mouth just resisted those sounds, while I easily picked up Spanish, German, and a few phrases in most of the dozen other countries I have traveled in. So I completely agree with your reasons! 😅👍🏼

    As a French native, I know the pronunciation can be difficult and also French people are stucked up the way French words are said. French isn't easy even for the French. I think that your American accent gives it a charm. I've been in the US for the past 25 years and still have a strong accent and often I killed the English words. What matters is that you did your best and wanted to honor Therese de Lisieux.

My middle name is Elise, my dad's ancestry is in France, I've always been obsessed with anything French, I learned to play Für Elise on the piano when I was younger & I love roses.
