    My first job was working at a 5 pin bowling centre. I am a bowler of almost 30 years as well. Seen a lot of changes to the game over the years, but the one thing with synthetic lanes is how you place the ball upon delivery, if you drive the ball into the lane it will bounce and probably head to the right side or the left side of the lane. Balls themselves weigh 3 pounds 4 ounces to 3 pounds 12 ounces. Diameter of the ball is 4/34 to 5 inches. It’s practical to have a smooth delivery for the best results. I love this game, and your guys video is amazing. Subscribed to your channel, look forward to future videos!

    I've never tried 5 pin, but after bowling 10 pin for more than 30 years I shot my first ever duckpin game a few years ago. It really messed with my brain. With virtually no weight to the ball I could only think of my hand/arm. My feet and legs felt like disconnected noodles. I lost track of how many steps I was taking and even bowled wrong footed once on accident. By the second game it started to feel better and by the third I was OK. At least until I got to 10 pin league a few days later. Luckily by the end of league practice I felt OK again.

    The easiest way to get a strike is to hit the pocket from an angle, just like 10 pin, the difference being how you get to the pocket. A lot of people curve it still, which I find to be very difficult to control. I like to bowl at an angle from the headpin. I stand at the far right and bowl towards the headpin, that has helped me to a 205 average.

    • @samthibert6527
      @samthibert6527 ปีที่แล้ว

      You dotn need curve. The best throw straight to the right of the head pin. That’s it.

    • @FerrisWheel4
      @FerrisWheel4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sam Thibert I am pretty sure that's what I said. People do it, but I don't think it is as effective due to the difficulty controlling the ball each time.
      However, throwing the bowl straight down the middle of the lane and hitting just to the left/right of the HP is definitely harder. That's why I like to angle it into the pocket. Gives you the most leeway when hitting the HP

    I found an easier way at least for a beginner when I was younger. My sis and I played ten pin league Saturday and my parents and grandparents played 5 pin league sundays so one day I was watching my mom play ( I was 10 or 11 at the time with an average of around 100 in my ten pin league).
    She didnt have a great game or anything but I noticed she was playing from the far right with little ball rotation and aimed straight to center. She got a lot less action but using simple geometry, when she was accurate it was an easy strike. Coming in at 45 degrees and hitting half the head pin would drive the left side pins down and the deflection was like a magnet for the right side.
    Their opponents had bowled away so there was a bunch of free time on the lane afterwards and I tried her technique and hit 8 strikes in ten frames.
    I tried it in ten pin the following week as I was waiting on a new ball with one of the house balls and threw a personal best 228 and a 650 triple that day! I dont think I ever broke 140 (maybe once) before that day and our basement dwelling team caught fire and won the league thanks to my horrible handicap coupled with what would have been over 180 avg had I started the league like that. My new ball arrived and it was (been many years I forget the name) one of the ones with the finger holes you only get the first joint into. Previously I had been dying to get my hands on that ball and throwing some legit hooks but instead I just kept throwing from far right with little rotation and aiming for the pocket and still kept insane results.

    Five pins and the other small ball games (duckpins, candlepins) are easier to try than tenpins, because the ball is a lot easier to control than the huge tenpin ball. However, those games are much harder to score in because of the smaller pins; nobody’s ever scored 300 in duckpins or candlepins. It reminds me of the tagline for the board game Othello (reversi): “A minute to learn, a lifetime to master.”

    5 pin is very different. The lanes are oiled to protect the heads and not to change the characteristics. The ball is uniform inside and doesn't have the reactive coverstocks, think hard urethane at most. If it makes you feel better, I think I almost broke my wrist the first time I tried to throw a 10-pin bowling ball. I think once you come to terms with that, you'll at least do better at 5 than I do at 10.

      Yes, but typically not with patterns. The difference is often just how much oil is on the lane (or how long it's been since being oiled)

    Even though the 5 pin is in the middle it’s really tough when the pattern is flat. There are no many ways to miss this spare.

    Grew up playing 5 pin here in Canada. 10 pin just feels so weird to me lol.

    Why do the pins in 5 Pin bowling have those blue rings around the bottom of the pins?

    • @tyfrank3427
      @tyfrank3427 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are rubber bands to increase the action of the pins. They are about 1" thick.

    Bowled both. Have been to nationals for both as a youth and in my opinion 10 pin is harder to be a competitive tournament bowler. Much more knowledge and skill required

    Surprised you don't have more comments calling you out for the mistake at 1:08. Spares are worth 15 + next shot, not 10.

      It actually isn't that rare. Candle pin and duckpin perfect games haven't happened, but having only 5 pins instead of 10 makes it a lot easier.

    • @timhooper871
      @timhooper871 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They're not rare, but they're not exactly common either. Think I know of about 15 or 16 perfect games so far this season.
      In a typical season, there'll be somewhere between 20 and 40 perfect games bowled across Canada.

    • @chadhurd7822
      @chadhurd7822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zandy1569 it's definitely hard, but not impossible. Your top bowlers typically get it in their career (sometimes a few of them), and some never achieve it despite elite bowlers.
