Hi Lauren, this might be a bit of a off-topic question, but I was wondering if you could maybe do a video on what it is like to live in Dubai? Especially in regards to the laws on relationships and so on that must seem quite strange to a "western" perspective. Thanks :)
Alan Watts, Ludovico Einaudi and horses?!?! You are pulling some serious heart strings here. Had me tearing up right quick. On a personal note. I am instinctively jumping (hehe) into the horse world with zero dollars. This video touches close to home. Thank you! 🙌🏾
If money didn't matter I'd have a horse and be able to live this dream you live everyday. I can't afford a horse and I definitely wouldn't be able to afford the upkeep. My chest literally constricts watching others show their horses and knowing I will not experience that elated feeling, especially not at my age yet they all take it for granted. The only thing this speech and video makes me think about it 'what if I was born into a richer home?' This sport is so unfair because if you aren't rich you can't go anywhere. You can't become a 'master' of this sport if you can't afford it.
I feel the same way . . . I still have hope that one day I'll be able to afford a horse and compete with him/her, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it's impossible. It remains something I'd love to do, but right now I'm focused on swimming, the sport I can afford to practice almost all year round, fortunately.
currently I'm in a near enough situation but I have found a way out. I will be working for my livery during the summer. if you want it, you will find a way, owning a horse isn't the only way to be around horses, help out at the yard, keep improving ur knowledge so when the day comes, you will be more prepared. jee I wrote a lot oml 😂😂
Exactly. I have been riding for 9+ years and recently had to stop due to money issues. It it so insanely stupid that everything depends on the amount of money you make, but I guess that's life.
I completely disagree with, "If you aren't rich you cant go anywhere." You can get far in the horse industry without being rich. I got a job as a working student. I got to learn and do what I loved all while having a place to live. If you are dedicated and good enough, you can make it anywhere you want in this industry. That's what I love about it. You don't need expensive tack, riding clothes, or horses. All you need is your knowledge and experience. But yes, its a industry dominated by the rich and its a lot easier for someone with money. I'm pretty sure the owner of this channel wasn't rich, but look at where she is now. That's because she's an amazing rider and was dedicated. If you want it bad enough, you'll get it.
Sophie Mac, its hard, but look at Charlotte Dunjardun. She the #1 world dressage rider. And you know what? She started as Valegro's exercise rider. She sold her first Grand Prix horse to pay off her house, she worked so hard, getting up for 6 am lessons on top of her normal work. She rides 6-10 horses a day. I'm not rich, my Lipizzaner mare is a 16 yr old rescue. But seeing where she has gone, that is part of what pushes my forward. If you have the time, many stables are willing to trade work for riding lessons. Or some owners lease their horses for free and the leaser takes care of day to day bills.
I absolutely love this! I can really relate to it as about 8 months ago I asked myself this question, and I realised that what I was doing was not what I wanted. So I made a plan, now I'm doing an equine therapy degree! I feel a lot better for it. Some people just don't want to work in an office every day, I know I couldn't do it.
Ah this is so lovely. Its taken fracturing my spine to realize how strongly I want to get back into working with horses, and it'll take a lot of work and time to get my body back to a point where I can even sit on their backs, but anything is possible when you try! (that and a whole lot of physical therapy, what an incredible career you've chosen!) Thanks for the inspiration!
This is very well done. And I've loved this theory---the point is, do what you love. Love what you do. Working with horses is my passion--teaching, training---in all weather, during family crisis--and you don't make a ton. But, I love what I do. I only wish animals lived forever....
i love when you hear a quote that really speaks to you, theres nothing better. you really have such an ideal job and its so great that you put in 100% and get back from it aswell, adore this x
Unfortunately I can't watch it in my phone but it's nice to see someone else have an appreciation for Alan Watts as well ☺️ As a psychology student I don't come across philosophy very often but frequently listen to his speeches on TH-cam - inception is one of my favourite speeches and it really makes you think x
Love Alan Watts! I seriously live by this speech. I saw the title and immediately got excited! And the background music helped introduce me to my favorite composer. Such a nice video too :)
Lovely video Lauren.. and a great question.. for me its simple to answer, I would love to build a nice indoor with stalls attached.. give lessons and keep training horses.. but sadly not in the books right now.. keep up the good work love!
If money was no object. i can see many talented riders going to big competitions. its sad you have to be rich to compete big :( or even have your own horse.
Do u have a video on what u do as an equine therapist, as I'm studying horse management at college next year here in England, but am still unsure what I won't to do when I grow up and being an equine therapist sounds interesting
Hi Lauren! I just wanted to ask how you became a massage therapist. This is one of my favorite future jobs, and I want this to be a side job kind of thing. What did you go to college for?
This is a great inspiration! But unfortunately if you look to those countries, those provinces where the level of life is low - you don't have much choice.... Do make your choices in life and IF you can - work on what you like! BTW - I also love tricks, jumping and work naturally with my horse, coincidence!!
If money wasn't an issue id pay off the rest of the mortgage on our field, get the fields professionally swept, fertilised and remove all the nettles and dock leaves. Id get the middle fencing posts that are rotted all fixed and creosoted. The last bit of fencing would be done and id finish the hole field off in one strand on the top posts with electric. Id also get my Clydesdale another thin western saddle pad for my dad. Id buy one of the college horses off of them and give him the retirement he deserves. get my mare a nice girth that wont rub, pull her hair and she could happily wear forever. Hmm and id go on a full Saddlery course to make my way to a master saddle. Oh and id buy a Dodge Viper :D
I desire to own my beautiful black horse, a beautiful white horse, make horse videos, be happy, take Effexor, earn lots of money, never work a day in my life (especially not a 9-5), and find fulfillment in whatever I do throughout my Day, oh and have a personal chef, maid, back scratch masseuse, live forever, and not trade time for money
Love the video but... as always... I think I am the only one who doesn't find this speech inspirational. The only people who say money doesn't matter are people who have money. The reality of the world is that you need to get a job that can provide enough income to live. Whether thats something you like or hate is up to you. The line about living a short life you love or a long life you hate is just not reality. If you hate your job then you are miserable. If you love your job but are poor and starving and homeless then you will be miserable because of that. In modern society, you are unlikely to die from a choice to do what you love even if it pays nothing so you will continue living just as long and just as miserable as if you didn't follow his advice. Sorry, not trying to start any arguments but I always feel like the majority of people saying how people should live their lives have never experienced the problems many people face when trying to make something of themselves.
I grew up in a relatively poor family and I don't think money matters. If you truly want something, there are always ways to get it through hard work. (I'm not talking about anything illegal). Or just learn to appreciate what you have.
I have to say, I felt the same. The point this speech makes is to choose a life you want to live. In an ideal world, we would love to be artists and painters and writers and not have to worry about paying bills, but that's not reality. However, we also don't have to take on a job we hate. It's about the balance of life/work and happiness. :)
I see your point, but I still love the speech. It helps me because often I have trouble focusing on the important things in life (God, school, maintaining good relationships with friends and family, and my goal of being an Olympic athlete). Hearing this reminds me to work at keeping those things at the center of my life, because worrying about everything else just turns me into a stressed and confused mess. So even though the part about not having money as the all-important priority isn't really an issue I have, this speech helps me a lot.

This is amazing Lauren, you've done so well for yourself in the equine world by working your way up through the years, and look at you now!
Awe Lauren, this is so great. So nice to think that you are truly walking in the path that you desire to follow. Blessings to you and your ponies!

I chose money. Miserable, but didn't have to worry about money.
