River cove used to be Hardies Yacht Basin. I lived on the last dock on the "T" before they put all those boat lifts. Hardies goes way back Henry Ford used to keep his Yacht there the "Santa Maria" and AMF Sport owners too. The owner Dan Hardie (a good friend) showed me the pictures it was back in the 1950's if I remember. At one point the City of Miami passed a "Luxury Tax" so all the rich took their yachts to the New River in Ft. Lauderdale. Huracan cove used to be "Nuta's "Boat yard. The only place that is still original is up river of River Cove, Ebsary Fondation. Before 22 Ave bridge. By 17 Ave. bridge south side is Sewell park, AKA Voodue park cause the Santeria people go there to do their thing related to the River deities. Merrille Steven 12 Ave. is where Jacques Cousteau's Calypso was serviced (the wooden Calypso) the man who re-cauked my Sail boat at Nuta's did the Calypso, Red Hughes. Those Tug Boats top are painted "Hempstead Green" named after Wess Hempstead who with his sons, his grandson ran a Tug company (back in the 1980 and 90 at the West end of Hardies Yatch Basin, the other was Backus family with the bigger tugs. Thanks for the joy ride. The Hempstead's are really good people, I remember Wes fondly really nice gentleman and one of the best Ship Wright I ever met.

This is fantastic. I looked into employment on the tows. Shortest I found was 30 days. Maybe you could be a cook or something for a month. Have to add when that boat passed the tow, what they do not realize is how much under current there is. Not a good situation for certain. Great year old video. Hope you do more of these in 2022.

Well Done Alfred .. and also to Aden .. better keep him around, he did a great job .. Don't think you caught it, but the lead tug Jean Ruth sounded the danger signal (Five short blasts) at least twice during this clip .. I believe they were warning other boats upbound on the river. This was a very good video of the river, you got the Tugs in all their glory. Nicely done. Thanks for posting this. R/ Glenn.

That large bent pipe on the bow of Greg's Tug is called a 'Staple" 'cuz it looks like one. It's lined w/Stainless Steel to minimize abrasions of the tow ropes going thru it. remember that if it's necessary, any of the Tugs can nudge the towed vessel for 'Direct' as opposed to 'indirect" force on it. indirect
