UPDATE ON THE SITUATION: Trolled the mid sized lure today for 5-10 minutes, no bites. However, the team at nomad did an unbelievable job at designing this lure. Blew me away seeing it in person. If I had this when I worked in California, the place where flyers are most used in the US, it would have demolished the bluefin due to the ability to being able to troll a flying fish in addition to/without use of a kite. I can’t imagine how may fish will try to eat this lure. That being said, design without durability for a $60 and $90 lure poses a massive issue. Do I believe it will get bit? Without question. Will it survive multiple bites? I wouldn’t bet money on it. As mentioned in the video, nomad has been able to fix minor kinks in lures in the past but the major issues for this lure won’t be able to be fixed by a harder resin or more sturdy paint like the lipped lures. The wings are everything on this lure and they need to be attached more firmly. Perhaps they will release a fixed wing version that can have more reliable durability. Obviously the title pushes buyers away from this lure, but only for now. I have extremely high hopes that nomad can fix the problem as this is the best and most innovative lure design made in the fishing industry in the past 100 years. This will hopefully be my most used lure in my arsenal some day. However, that day Is not today… As for the warranty: I emailed nomad sending them a full body picture of the broken lure with a picture of my receipt (which I luckily kept) and they are sending me a replacement. Big credit to nomad for having a seemingly “no questions asked” replacement policy (to an extent) for this lure. They obviously know this lure has flaws and are owning up to it. Hopefully future durability upgrades will be made in the near future. I have big hopes for this lure and will be waiting to purchase again when improvements are made. - Joe VT
Would be nice to see them make the wing attachment out of metal and cast it into the resin. Would add weight for castability and without a doubt be stronger. However that would make an already expensive bait unaffordable in my opinion. I’m glad i watched this since i planned on buying a couple of the smaller ones to put on my popping rod for casting up here in the Northeast Canyons. I’ll stick with poppers and hogys

They don’t work on mahi either. Pulled on for 3 days seen it get hit many times but only hooked up once and that was temporary because the hooked pulled. Good teaser bad lure
It would be better if you were to show how good or bad they were by but the best test/demonstration would be to try and catch fish with them? It's something you could record while out fishing during other videos so you eerent just out with them (kills 2 birds with one stone?) Worth a shot anyway
My kid's used to have the Flying Fairy dolls. Like a bunch of them. And when I wanted to,get rid of them, my neighbor bought them from me for 10 bucks. Then he modified them and used them for tuna fishing. He was always trying out different things to catch fish and he was cheap as hell. He swore they worked and seemed really upset that they weren't really around anymore. He said they had the right weight, color, and action. He just added a split ring mount and obviously hooks then out into the gulf (Central Florida) he would go. He went waaaaaayyyyyyyyy out in the gulf too. I went with him on a grouper run one time and where normally in the past with my dad we would go like an hour out, he went out 6 hours. He had a nice 56' Viking so I didn't care, but when he said it would be overnight, I thought he was joking.

Then my neighbor inherited the boat and 5 years later he passed away on the boat quarantining himself. His daughter got the boat and her idiot husband took it out, with his mistress, and they ran aground in the Exumas and were also fishing there, openly. So he was arrested. The boat was impounded. Got it out of impound 3 months ago. The boat is cursed. I think because of the original name, 'Raging Banana'. And it has a BRight yellow hull paint with white on top and then the bow was painted white back to the first cleats in a jagged pattern, and then there are lateral black lines on the hull like a banana. You would have loved him and his dad.
We kill a lot of wahoo on the diver 200 and 220s. Ask people to bring 2 a piece on the boat and don't expect more than 2 decent fish off of them. The new factory has major durability issues and doesn't look like its changing anytime soon.
The impact hitting the ground and breaking will not be anywhere close to the impact of a tuna.. I'm not impressed with the design.. those wings should be hinged on the inside of the body..
I have fond memories of staying up all night catching fliers at San Clemente. Sucked at the time only getting about an hour of sleep in the middle of a 4 day but it sure was fun while we did it
Working sport boats as a kid there were times when the flying fish were so thick that at night when the boat was anchored up but the lights were on the fliers would charge the light and fly into the boat you just heard loud bangs all night like someone was throwing rocks everyone had to go inside so no one got hurt in the morning there were dead fliers with busted heads all over the boat one of the other decks got hit in the face by one and it broke his nose good memories
Need to bring one and test in green canyon on an overnighter, I highly doubt after watching the video those wings will most definitely break after a few big blowups. Thanks for saving me the money...
I just bought the 200. Took it out of San Diego on Saturday. Trolled the 200 for several hours. Never got bit, never saw fish. The lure looks so bad ass. I rigged it tail-less. I also used a different hook. The supplied hook is garbage.
The price for the size of the bait is actually insanely reasonable.... I own swimbaits designed for freshwater that are far more expensive, and the California flyer is more than double the price.
That flying fish looks cool!!! I want one to try on Muskie, heck some of these guys make homemade lures and sell them for $200 to tourists. lol. They should put a battery in it so the wings move.
I really don't think you can break one casting it at water but my eye did immediately go to that area the 1st time i seen one. Durability is definitely questionable, and starting at $70AU here where they were designed for the sml. Yeah, nah
I bought a few of these, no bites on three trips, rigged a few different ways. Deckhands on the Texas headboats are not impressed with them. And these are hardcore Nomad customers. One guy said that WHEN the yellowfin would go after them, the hard plastic would bounce off of their heads and get launched 20’ into the air. Obviously no hookset. Cheap ol Frenzy’s flyers are their go-to. Halco 130’s are also pretty reliable when the YF are biting. The worst part is that I have to use spinning rods to cast all of the above. And if you do get a 100# class fish on a spinning reel, you’re immediately longing for that two-speed Accurate sitting in the rod holder. I’m going to keep trying these Nomad flyers, simply because A.) I paid for them. I own em. Sunk cost fallacy has set in. And B.) I want to be the guy to make it work when no one else can. I think rigging is the key. The method that is best for hookset is probably most damaging for the lure. (Line to nose, assist hooks and split ring at rear, remove plastic tail). Through-body rigging straight to large treble might help it last through more than one or two fights, but hooksets might be tougher when hook and body can move independently.
Once i saw the hinge for the wings, i laughed my ass off. If they're gonna make a one or 2 time fish use lure, they better drastically lower the price. I still havent got a bite on my dtx 260

Also the price point isn't it at all, even if they work why get it for 30 when u can get a knockoff nomad stickbait for less than 5 and throw that with the same outcome?. Nomad ? Interesting the flying fish lure broke so early. Bummer. They sure do sell good looking lures. Allot of hype. I live on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and run allot of Nomad - own several of their lures. I was hoping they were as good as the let on - but you know - it is just another lure. I have spent allot of hours running Nomad with “some” success. I am a few hundred dollars into Nomad and can say Nomad no longer excite me. Rapala as good or better. I have various sizes and colors of madscads, DT minnows and others. Lures are designed more to catch fisherman than fish.
This was a painful video to watch. Lol use a 4x 9/0 use electric tapeput leader though the nose hole and useing a crimp to tie the hook on andtape the hook to the back and don't ues it in your backyard take to the water.
As anybody that likes to water-ski knows , going fast over the surface of the water and falling , feels like you hit the ground hard . It can be very painful. So throwing a flying fish , hard to get it out there , over land , would have a similar result , only no splash. Feel company got the fish on the market before they worked out the kinks. For sure.

Ours broke on the first troll. Fish didn’t even hit it. Wings just came off.

@@joevtfishing it’s a ton of fun to catch fliers. We now are switching to spreader bars 1000+ feet back but the fliers are the best for the giants.

we have wore out the wahoo on the dtx 200. one is so bad that ive had to repaint it
