I remember having an argument with a guy who said the UN should have been the Capitalist club so the UN could "enforce the law" internationally so I pointed out the horror of the Korean war and he realized how fucked up it was.

Still only 18 minutes in, so not sure if this gets brought up but IRT the "You wonder why North Korea wants nuclear deterrents" point, North Korea has also explicitly used the Iraq War and the overthrow of Colonel Gaddafi as justifications for nuclear proliferation. It's easy to see why a state with tense relationships with the US would want nuclear weapons when the US and NATO are actively overthrowing governments.

In Puerto Rico the war is relatively well known cause of the 65th infantry division of the US army known as the Borinqueneers, which was mostly composed of PuertoRicans. The memory of it is a bit weird. There’s no real understanding of the war or knowledge of what it was about beyond knowing a lot of PuertoRicans fought in it, but people’s thoughts are usually either it’s absurd we had to fight there or annexationists saying we are proud of our contribution to the US army should get the recognition we deserve by getting statehood. Many are proud of it because they take it in a nationalist way like our troops were brave and survived incredible battles which they kind of did, though it often comes with a bit of anti-Americanism since our troops were conscripted for the most part and that infantry division was discriminated against very frequently and got sent on suicide missions to the point of mutiny.

Actually, Soviet troops fighted in Korean War.
153rd Fighter Aviation Regiment defended airspace, pilots operated only in the North Korean airspace and did not cressed frontline.
Their succesful actions against B-29 bombers was one of the main reason, why americans did not nuked DPRK - it become too dangerous for nomb carriers.

The line of though in this podcast baffles me. As a South Korean, I am incredibly grateful of America's involvement in the Korean War. Even if there were possibly genocides mentioned which can never be justified, America assisting South Korea ultimately they led to me being able to live freely in a prosperous country rather than work an assigned job while literally starving and disconnected from the rest of the world.
And the part where you guys talk about the South provoking the North first - I was taught that the North suddenly invaded South, whereas South had never provoked them. So there are clearly two sides of the argument here, and I respect your argument but I think it lacks logic. At the start of the war the North had disproportionately stronger army than the South, and also the South was totally unprepared for war. Which is why they were unable to fight back properly and pushed all the way back to Busan. Do you think a country that is much weaker militarily and unprepared for war will provoke the other side?
If you think so, then I have no words for you.

As respectable and helpful that Brendan is during this episode, I find it particularly disingenuous to keep stating the ‘alleged’ bio-chemical warfare committed against North Koreans during the war. No matter how much China and North Korea say it was used, he keeps falling on that ‘might no have’. Almost as if the west needs to confirm it’s use for it to have an validity.

Anarchists are useful for helping overthriw the capitalists, after that they will be all thrown into the sea sinking holding anchors, anarchists are nothing more but obstacles to revolution at least a better than capitalists but that's a low bar.

Gooks are used for anyone that's not white. It was used towards from Filipinos to Haitians. Since the meaning supposedly tramp or follower of the army. The context i can decipher, this has to do with black american army men that defected from the US army and joined the Filipinos because as stated, we are not fighting our own people. Those native Filipinos were black that fought the US empire and the black Americans helped them defeat the US military. It took sell outs for the US to keep the Philippines as its colony, and today it is still under neocolonialism.
