We hope you enjoyed the incredible journey through The Folly by Cheshire Architects! This serene cabin retreat nestled on a clifftop in Takapuna, New Zealand, is a true testament to the art of tranquillity and repose. It's such a perfect space - rustic, and small, but because it's so open, it doesn't feel that small. I love how rustic walls and floors and combined with modern floor-to-ceiling windows. It's not clashing! And that wall-through fireplace is perfect. I also loved that murphy bed hidden in one of the walls.
The use of materials is perfect and takes this structure to another level.. The landscaping and that large tree that reaches out to the cabin is amazing. Truly the stars lined up for this project.
Such a gorgeous piece of land. Rather than taking away the beauty of the landscape, the cabin compliments it with the simplicity and wood finishes. The radiance and coziness of this cabin is so nice and the cliffside views make it a wonderful area. Thank you Local Project for this presentation and sharing this cabin with us!
What lovely light! It seems as if every plant of the exterior down to the every blade of grass glows with an inner light. If there is a heaven this must be what it looks like. The house seems to rise up and be a back stage for it all. Absolutely coveted and adored. Thank you for sharing this pure bliss..
New Zealanders have lovingly referred to their country as "Godzone" (God's own) down through the generations... that light quality is part of the reason.
Gorgeous cabin! Love the all-wood interior and other humble materials. Goes to show you don’t need high end materials to create luxury - just great design. Also, it’s nice to hear an architect talk about collaboration for once. Seem like a very humble man. One of my favorite builds on this channel now.
What an excellent effort in simplicity and function. There is so much more to this modest building than meets the eye. Great work, to both designer and builder.
Takes my breath away - new favorite house tour on TH-cam! I can just imagine being cozied up here with a cup of tea, watching a thick storm roll in over the water and feeling so content. Beautiful work.
Truly beautiful. What I liked the most is the fact it's rather small, which means it can be maintained by only one person. The size and the extensive use of wood also makes it extremely cozy. It's also interesting the placement of the fireplace. I'd love to know how efficient is to warm the inside of the house considering it also projects a lot of heat toward the exterior. The placement of the cabin is also perfect. What a stunning view!
a million dollar tree to live by, amazing location amazing building and amazing everything.... after 8 years of architecture career so jealous of people having such opportunity and such vision....want an apprentice? hahahahah
I dream to work with you. My vision exists in few and you where born with it and I can’t take that for granted in my life time. It would be an honor to understand your complexities. And grow strong and stronger.
Industrial colors, surfaces, and materials I do not automatically go for - they seem first-year architecture style, trite and obvious - but it all looks perfect here. The richness of rusted steel, flat texture, coffee color, and angular black, elevate the interior wood. Complexity would be out of place.
I think estate agents do a better job of filming properties. They aren't afraid to do walk-throughs and give a real sense of the space. This is more like photography.
Maybe such people don’t focus on money since money is only a tool to built such things , it can never be the goal but anyone having money as a goal in life is truly poor no matter the amount of money they have. Life is not about money and such people don’t waste their life chasing it. Focus on what you want to creat and simply use money as a tool for it but don’t focus on money. Imagine a dream don’t excuse it for the lack of money. Focus on the dream and money will guide you there , like a companion not as a leader of you. You lead money not the way around. Don’t believe what society indoctrinated into yourself it’s not how life functions it’s merely a designed alternative reality in a world in where you can creat your own reality. Please don’t adopt the reality of others due to a lack of self respect and love it won’t benefit you.
1) fabulously beautiful location! 2) All that rough sawn timber is a bit...dirt/dust-collecty 3) The silly little glasses look pretentious on Phillip Johnson, all the more so on someone who ...isn't PJ
I cannot think of any reason to be personally offensive when commenting on a video about a building and architecture. There may be a place for bad manners... this is not that place.
@@PiefacePete46 I can; a wholesale rejection of phony, affectational shows of pretention and egotism, and the coviction to call it wherever encountered. And "this" , John, is a TH-cam comments section. You utter bore.

Beautiful architecture and interior design! Such a pitty with all that wasted greenspace. The rest of the landscaping was nice, but lawns are lifeless spaces with a terrible impact on biodiversity, too bad they're so popular.
I got my degree in Architecture but chose not to practice, mainly for the money but also because all architects are such pretentious bullshit artists. They all try to look the same (glasses, black shirts / turtlenecks, pop of color like red somewhere on their person) and all talk the same. I just wish there was one architect out there who would be honest and say "I did this because it looked cool to me". Instead, they are sniffing their own farts from a champagne glass non-stop.
The house and design are well designed enough, but the real award goes to the pompous and arrogance manner in which he speaks about this home. So off putting it detracts from the video and home. Yikes

A great marriage of modern architecture and rustic interior design!
Chesire Architects are truly advancing the art form. Magnificent addition to their already remarkable portfolio.
They truly are an incredibly talented team - we're honoured to be able to feature their work. ❤
The David Attenborough equivalent for architecture and design. Perfect narration through this video
A small, perfect cabin captured in a perfectly executed video: architect's insights, music, all of it.

We couldn't agree more!
I can't even say a thing. This is one of the best design and location I've ever seen here. 😍😍
We agree!

The pleasure is all ours!

The landscape with the pohutukawas, low planting and the lawn is heaven
My God. The setting is sublime. And yes, the structure is a beauty as well.
“How much can you pair it back and it still gets stronger and stronger”. Love it.

The design of the cabin is impeccable! Additionally, it's hard to recall a project more beautifully landscaped.
What an excellent effort in simplicity and function. There is so much more to this modest building than meets the eye. Great work, to both designer and builder.
The local project videos heals my soul.
Wow what a setting! Hope they know how good they have it.
Takes my breath away - new favorite house tour on TH-cam! I can just imagine being cozied up here with a cup of tea, watching a thick storm roll in over the water and feeling so content. Beautiful work.
Wow, I wouldn’t need the main house. Just that small space would be perfect and what a view.
Truly beautiful. What I liked the most is the fact it's rather small, which means it can be maintained by only one person. The size and the extensive use of wood also makes it extremely cozy. The placement of the cabin is also perfect. What a stunning view!
The climate at this part of New Zealand, near Auckland, is quite moderate, so the heating demands in a building this size would not be too great.
"There is a place for everything and everything is in place" I like that.
The cabin that is worth giving! Giving nature vibes, the relax feeling. Thanks Local Project 😎
Beautifully designed!
Encantada com esse trabalho!!! que vídeo espetacular, que casa, que talento!
The bed actually made me gasp. Bravo
Wow. Simply stunning. For some reason, I expected Magnum showing up. It has that kind of vibe, I think.
Magnum P.I.?
@@mjrtensepian1727 Yep. Somehow, I got this Hawaii-feeling. Maybe it's the trees & the garden landscape. Anyhow - simply beautiful!
Gorgeous! I love the landscaping too.
'managed revelation' - beautiful
I'm moving in! 💚💙🩵💜💚
Us too!
Wonderful. Love the inside/outside fireplace.
The house is nice, but that location and the gorgeous trees 😍😍😍

Epic rustic beauty.
Looks so magical
Absolutely wonderful sentiments, space and video ❤️
What a beautiful location and residence
Bravo! 🌿💚🌿
What an extraordinary man!
Beautiful. the architect looks like the legendary Jesse Livermore
That trees❤
Particularly interesting to see smoke being formed mid-air and sucked down the pipe. 😁 But seriously, I wish I could have a house like this.
Such an iconic name - Pip Chesire

Cool home!!!
Now, here's a place where I can finally finish that novel...
Какой красивый уютный дом с секретной спальней
rustic luxury. ugh i'm smitten
The fire crackeling...
Thomas Magnum would like to know if it's available for rent.
I think estate agents do a better job of filming properties. They aren't afraid to do walk-throughs and give a real sense of the space. This is more like photography.
Nice
What are those gorgeous white flowers ringing the property?
Renga Renga lily
Arthropodium cirratum
where did he buy those white glasses?! I need! Seriously someone, drop a link
Most people have far too little money while a few have far too much.
🤩🤩🤩
Does anyone else want to see in the shed?
Which particular world do these people ‘repose’ in?
I would much rather hear about the design concept accompanied by the slow moving camera. There is a lot to see here.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥🥰
“Managed revelation.” “Considered luxury”. “Bespoke” If these terms apply to your life, money is NOT an issue. 😂

The music was way too intrusive for the speaker to be heard clearly. I had to mute it.

Rusted metal sheeting and sea air?
WTF.
"Shed"
Not a folly. Solly. 😎
show the kitchens
you can put a pile of poo on that plot and will still look amazing

All that blah blah blah and there's a huge monstrosity right outside the window. Wouldn't calm me even an ounce. Rubbish!
More phoney than folly

Must be hard going through life being so bitter and dissatisfied. Hope you find happiness soon.
Home and settling are great, but putting 18th century furniture in a modern home is a travesty. It is laughable and ruins everything 😂
The house and design are well designed enough, but the real award goes to the pompous and arrogance manner in which he speaks about this home. So off putting it detracts from the video and home. Yikes
There is nothing pompous or arrogant about this gentleman. The only thing off putting is your rude comment. One an 11 year old would make.
Just outstanding … Lovely
How do you get away with having that roof so flat?
With buckets under the leaks
Simple and beautiful
