- Payton says one thing and Hugh says another. Auburn's head football coach is not on the same page with his QB and Auburn is paying the price. Saturday, Hugh said Payton audibled out of a play and that's the reason it failed. Why aren't they on the same page when it comes to play calling? Did nobody think to check Michigan states return policy on merchandise after last year cause the qb they sent us is definitely broken
No the fans warned us before we got him , he was hit or miss and miss more then he hit. They said he wasn’t good. Coach freeze swore he was a QB whisperer. But two years later, Michigan state fans was on the money about P.T.
I never asked for a dumbed down offense. I also don’t want a dumb qb or hc, but we apparently now have all three.
When the QB "overrides" a call by the head coach...that is NOT on CHF. Simple. It is VERY clear PT thinks he's "smarter" than CHF. He KEEPS adjusting on obvious "just hand it to Jarquez" plays and that isn't working. CHF needs to say 2 words into the "helmet"...NO READ..."! My question is...would even THAT stop PT from continuing to make these bone-headed mistakes? Can't blame CHF...except maybe for allowing a QB to still make these calls.
Yeah man, the criticism on defense I think was partly deserved but in the first couple games when we couldn’t cover but it’s gotten a lot better.

Shug benched Dieter Brock for the same thing and he never played for Auburn again. He transferred to Jacksonville State and went on to the pros.

PT is a 5 year player. Why are people making excuses for him and then blaming the coaches? Now, CHF could have called Timeout but again, PT is a 5 year player!!! SMH. I don't remember any other QB's getting this much grace, especially in the last few years at Auburn. JMO
Freeze is not only the guy who brought Thorne back, he insisted on building the offense around Thorne.
So clearly not the best at making decisions. Imagine this offense with Cam Ward or Diego Pavia

Short answer is no because he is not calling a scheme to the strengths of the team he is going to die on that hill. Stop the RPO every single play and do more traditional runs

Thorne audibled into a play that wasnt even a play just what he wanted to do. At this point how many if those have happened and we keep asking why Freeze is yelling at him. Bench him lets ride with the baby goat

The “ baby goat”? Thorne is truly our best choice at qb this year and that’s on Freeze
If pt went rogue he should be benched. PT brings nothing to the offense worth tolerating that. It will kill any team discipline remaining if he gets away with it.
Should we hang up this season and look to the future? Let’s give the next QB the rest of the season to get snaps under his belt, unless Deuce is the starter.
The next QB is a backup at another power 4 team.
Payton Thorne is suspect. He needs to be investigated. At all the wrong times, he makes awful plays.
I don't want to entertain conspiracy theories, but it is getting strange. It's almost predictable at this point.

I said PT may be throwing games for the last 2. It’s either he’s worse under pressure to win or close a game or he’s shaving points. I don’t think it’s out of line for people to question that. Look, I was defending PT and Freeze for not going to the portal. Even after Cal and AR. I just can’t anymore. I’ve questioned Freezes play calling all year and have been thinking the SEC has just surpassed the offense he runs, but now, I have a real hard time questioning anything from Freeze besides a few personnel packages in the redzone. When you look at the film though, people have been running wide open all season and PT makes the catastrophic decisions late in every game. I said several times this year in these crunch times we should be calling set plays but now we see that Freeze has and PT still finds a way…… He straight lied about his head coach publicly. Any other player would be riding the pine the rest of the season over that. I know he’s going to make mistakes but I think at this point with PT lying about this and saying last week he’d throw that pass 10/10 times it’s probably best to get the future ready. WW doesn’t need to burn his RS so it’s Hank. If there’s a plug n play level talent in the portal I think you have to spend a million on em. Deuce has the best intangibles than anyone AU has had in the QB room since Bo left. He’s also playing dominant at the highest level of HS ball so I’m not worried about that, but we have to get the best QB who’s already playing in an RPO offense if you can find one. Now we’re in roster and recruiting retention trouble if a change isn’t made so absolutely start getting the young talent more snaps. Especially Perry. I’d be pissed to have a RS season burned with getting 5 or less snaps a game especially when you make a play in the limited snaps. Isn’t it crazy that we could still have Bo this season had we redshirted him and let Willis play a couple of seasons. Could you imagine what Bo could do in this offense? With the talent we have. Him and KLS would be putting up video game numbers and Bo’s a natural winner. We’d be in the top 2-3 of the SEC certainly, probably the top honestly. AU has been horrible in QB decisions for a decade. It’s just frustrating, especially when you have an offense that is at the top of the SEC in all categories outside turnovers and bad redzone play which is on Freeze a bit honestly. More explosive plays since Stidham 🤦♂️. I honestly feel bad for KLS because this could kill and probably will effect his draft stock. KLS is a first/second round talent and has caught literally everything catchable and even some that he shouldn’t have caught. Also watch the kid block. He’s cracking folks all year, putting corners on the sidelines and/or on their asses. I ain’t putting all blame on PT but he’s 80% the problem. Let Hank make the freshman mistakes instead of a 5th year senior who obviously is not very coachable if at all at this point. PT isn’t going to get better. Hank will. It’s not a hard decision in my mind. Else you might end up with roster issues you started with because all these LEGIT young guys are probably already asking themselves “should I transfer”. Thompson is the one I worry about most. Ok I’m done besides saying PT needs some splinters in his backside.
If he (Coach Freeze) doesn't realize that these boys are motivated by something more than X(s) & O(s) he will lose the entire season. This is why the kids played so hard for Cadillac Williams! Harsin had the same team that was given to Cadillac! How did Cadillac get more from the same guys that Harsin could not? You cannot forsake young men fighting for common cause. Even the best coaches cannot replicate this kind of enthusiasm! I spent 28 years of total active federal military service in the USAF so I know firsthand that this kind of leadership works! These kids should be undefeated or at the most 5-1 because they are not too far off. Tell me then what is missing really...if Coach will heed this advice he will win every game left on the schedule! Agree about Percy. 2 clear plays where he just stood up and did nothing. Inexcusable. Can't blame that on CHF.
Sidenote this is not CHF throwing Payton under the bus. He even gave him credit and said PT is a thinker and knows football.
I think he outsmarted his common sense on this. That's what I hope, anyway.
I said several games back , Thorns knows best and he has to fix problems he sees , or think he sees . He needs to be done, Hugh won a lot of games with this offense , let him take the blame if it doesn't work.
And let’s not let Freeze off the hook for Percy Lewis either. Why would anyone think a big slow lineman from Miss State was worth NIl money over anyone else?
Auburn should out up 60 on Vandy. Bama only had the ball fie 18 minutes and out up 35 and ansack fumble killed a drive when they was in Vandy territory. Vandy is the same Vandy hit trash. The film and PTs comments after don't line up with it not being a check.

The blocking was loaded to the left. Running right was no blocking and defense was there. If a read, dumb.
