  • A short funny video from a school project showing cultural differences.
Team mates are obviously speaking Mandarin/Cantonese. It's a joke.
Awkward meeting between short-term oriented North Americans trying to do business with long-term Relationship building oriented Asians. lots of other cross cultural blunders like writing on business cards, touching, surprise gifts which Japanese business people do not approve of. Enjoy ! =P

Lol, the language is Chinese - Cantonese, but the culture here is actually Japanese, we Cantonese doesn't too restrict in speech like that, and the last part we aren't that serious about personal business card, lol

This video is so misleading in so many levels. Why is the dude speaking Japanese? Also, Hong Kong is a lot like the British. Americans are still ignorant when they view Asians.

That's very bad example about business communications, the American guys body language is not professional and not looks like a business communication at all...

Thank you very much for funny video. it demonstrates clearly the differences between 2 cultures, Westen cultures and Easten cultures, specifically between Amarican and Japaness. I'm from Asean country so I can understand why 2 Japanese men behave like that, we are learning cross culture communication subject, and we are going to make a role play for the mid term test, is that ok if we take this script but not be supposed to be plagiarist, haha, just kidding, thsnk you very much!

@XShockandAwe hahhhaha yeah ! they ARE Cantonese..... this was a short skit for a presentation for our Cross Cultural Management class..... we did not have any japanese persons in the group or class.... so we just made the video with our Chinese group members..... just to get the idea across and get the attention of the people in class that like to fall asleep during presentations.
    but Thank you =)

I think they are not Chinese, and I believe if Japanese were there, Japanese try smiling more and speaking English. Japanese would say more flattery even if they don't think so, in other words, Japanese try matching American style, when they say 'call me John', Japanese definitly say 'ok! John!' in JAPANESE ENGLISH, when American give them to shake hands, Jaoanese can't reject it.

There are many new cultures in America that do not represent the majority of us.
The examples given are from low level culture.

The so called American male was far too crass and informal, even by American business standards. The female was not an American. Notice the heavy foreign accent? Don't know where she was from but she was definitely not from the US.

That is funny, but it is true in the business world depending if your in America or Chinese but its actually acted more like Japanese thats when they have to act more in there country

  • @friendzNwatan

Important topic in form of an act. The act is over exaggerated as things didn't seem realistic, you could have taken help of a professional while making this video. This is a lesson and presentation of cultural differences and should be taken into account seriously. Nobody puts the business card in their bras or under-wears, but I liked how persistent the American delegates are that reassures their Masculinity by nature. Will definitely use it in my assignment, but with better interpretation.

Ummmm... Really? I'm an American who owns two companies in Denver Colorado, USA and 4 LLCs in China... This is not representative of American business culture... And..I believe this girl is Russian? Who would have no understanding of American business culture, and no understanding of western culture in general practice, as Russian business practices is much different. I would almost say that it's more representative of Japanese culture, though the ending is not representative of any business culture I'm aware of... And I often meet with clients in most continents.

lol ! i really should change the title of this video. This video is not serious or a real representation. It was made as a small joke in back in school, like 10 years ago.
