She's wearing a black turtleneck, standing against a black background, wearing minimal makeup, shaved head. She wants you to focus on her voice, the music, the song. She was very beautiful back then, she doesn't want you distracted by her beauty. Catch her live video, it's great.

@@vickiejenkins-tripp5994 You are absolutly right, But it was not Prince himself, given it to her. It was his manager, who later on became Sinead's manager. Prince started singing his version live, after Sinead became famours with the song. Prince never wanted Sinead to sing it, because he did not like her attitude. When he first met her a few years later, they got in to a real fight, and Sinead must ran to the next door neighbor. Sinead's version was number 1 on Top 100 song chart in 1990.

Let me give you the background to this song. This song was written by Prince in 1984 for a group he started called The Family. He gave The Family the song in 1985, the group consisted of St. Paul, Susannah Melvoin, Eric Leeds and JellyBean Johnson. I would like for you to do a reaction to their version also, since then the group has changed their name to fDeluxe and when Prince died fDeluxe redid the song and in my opinion is the best version of this song ever. It's on TH-cam called fDeluxe Nothing Compares 2 U. Prince never approved of Sinead O'Connor covering this song but back then he didn't own his masters and his record label Warner Bros. approved Sinead O'Connor to remake the song. And then in 1990 they released her version of the song and it became a number one hit in 17 different countries.

Simply a fantastic song. Always have loved it. Can't say I was a big fan of hers, I was a bit young when she was big, but this song transcends time. I do have to say though, one thing I remember about her was how she hated the industry for exploiting women and their beauty. Especially how the music industry so intensely sexualized female singers. Again, I was young when she was big, but I always remember that her shaved head was part of the protest against beauty standards. Even when Miley Cyrus was getting big, Sinead made a few comments to try and help Miley avoid the pitfalls of the industry. Unfortunately, at the time, Miley wasn't very receptive and went pretty much in the opposite direction.

She got crazy popular after performing this song (written by Prince). Then, on SNL (Saturday Night Live), in protest to all of the children abused by priests in the Catholic church, she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II. Everyone turned on her and it killed her career. There's another video of her performing with Kris Kristopherson. When she came out on stage the entire crowd booed her. She stood defiant, sang a different song called War, then broke down on her way off stage as Kris held her. She had a troubled life growing up, abused by her mother, and after this her life basically fell apart. She says she has bipolar disorder. Married four times, addicted to marijuana for 30 years, attempted suicide. Converted to Islam in 2018. As of a week ago, November 10, 2020 she said she's entering a year long rehab and postponing her 2020 concerts.
"This year I lost someone beloved and has affected me so badly that I became briefly addicted to a drug other than weed."

Sinéad O'Connor rocked the world with this song, all the way back in 1991. You guys are amazing, and especially you Kae, for reaching out to her about her low self-esteem and you'd talk her back to health again. Amazing. Everybody has heartbreaking losses (if you never have, please contact me: I'd love to meet someone who's escaped this hail of bullets.) and we need songs like this for those times.

Ireland has a tough history of oppression, great hunger, emigration, etc... and Irish are extremely musical. One thing I think Irish do probably better than anyone is to express deep, deep sorrow in a uniquely haunting Irish way. You can really hear that in Sinéad's vocals... She is ripped apart, and crying out but still so incredibly beautiful with an Irish lilt.

Yes the song is about her mother she had a bad relationship with her mother when her mother past away she said she was happy but she miss her there's a video with Dr. Phil where she explain everything about what happened between she and her mother is so sad. Sinead O'Connor had a sad childhood. In an interview she said that her mother was abusive to her mentally and physically and was totally unhygienic. Later on she went to live with her father, her parents had separated, but she became a bit of a rebellious child and was sent to a place where girls who did not follow the supposed normal moral behaviour were sent. She had a very hard time there. She said in the interview that in spite of everything she still loved her mother.

  • @susanlawens3776

Wow, you guys are pretty smart. She didn't open up about this song for the longest time, like pretty much until very recently, and her mom was mentally ill, and very very abusive to her, and she said of her mother that she ran a "torture chamber" and also sexually abused her. Despite all of the horrific abuse at her mother's hands, she said that she loves her mother (who was killed in a car accident when she was 19) and forgave her. I'm sorry that you lost your mom, you're very young, and my heart goes out to you. Love your videos! Keep up the good work.

Actually, no boyfriend, no mother...just doing a song written by Prince. He didn't actually put his version out until three years after she did this one (this one's the best, IMO). She's just that good she makes you believe it. I'm watching it January, 2021, so I guess they had a change of heart about the block.

Chris Cornell made it acoustic version of this song which was written by the artist Prince. It brought me to tears with its depth of emotion. The prince version was almost papash and in a strange way almost Happy. Sinead O'Connor's version did not move me. If you do review Chris's version of the song please do the Sirius XM station sessions. He also did the songs nearly forgot my broken heart and fell on Black Days. They will bring you to tears. I would really love to see what Miss Livy thinks of Chris Cornell. With respect always to you both Brant Heavner. 😊😊
