    Do you pre-fill oil filter?
    Or find it not necessary on Honda 2.4L?
    Reason I'm asking... I used to always pre-fill. Today I changed my 15 Accord 2.4L... Had the front jacked up and let it drain for 30min. (Only because it was so HOT out today in PA 🥵)
    Anyway... When starting up after adding 4qts... I noticed a dry tapping/knocking for less than 1sec (or I would have shut off) slightly concerning.
    My guess is it took a second for the oil pressure and filter to fill...
    I also was able to get five courts in because of how long it drained & at an angle... Due to front being jacked up only. Car must have been bone 🦴 dry 🤔
    Like I said it was less than one second... Once oil pressure built, she was purring like a Honda 👍🏼

    What I love about my wife’s 2017 Accord Sport SE is that the oil pan drain plug and the oil filter are located so close together that I can drain the oil and pull the oil filter at the same time and drain both in the same oil catch pan. Any time I replace fluid in my vehicles, I allow them to drain over night, at least 16 hours. This ensures I get as much old fluid out as possible.

    Adam awesome video! I have a 2014 Honda Accord Sport. So, when do you recommend changing the oil (go by Maintenance Minder or Mileage?). I got my last oil change done by a local mechanic on 7/17/20 using Oil Filter: FRAM XG7317 Ultra Synthetic (20,000 miles) & Kirkland Signature 0W-20 Full Synthetic. if you do follow Maintenance Minder do you have to change the oil after 1 year even with less miles driven (I'm assuming < 15K a year)

    • @ShopEightyFive
      @ShopEightyFive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honda recommends changing the oil when the maintenance minder light comes on. Your oil will be around 15%.

    • @eeinf05
      @eeinf05 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShopEightyFive Ok. What if you don't drive much then should you wait till 15% or change it if it has been over a year?

    • @ShopEightyFive
      @ShopEightyFive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should be ok at 15% however, it won’t hurt to change it sooner. Synthetic oil does better over its lifetime than conventional oil. The computer algorithm calculates mileage, idle time, engine temperatures, trip times, engine loads, and ignition starts and stops. It then establishes an oil change interval as low as 3,000 miles (4,800 km) and all the way up to 10,000 miles (16,000 km) and more depending on severity of conditions.

    When I lift my body when I change my engine oil (mission oil), do I have to put it on all four places and drain the oil? Or do I just raise the engine body and remove the oil? I have a question in Korea.

    • @Wingnut353
      @Wingnut353 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Raise body, drain oil replace plug, remove and replace filter, put oil back in... the angle of the vehicle is not going to be great enough to cause any issues with drainage. Always use a solid support and never trust a hydraulic jack by itself as they can drop the car on you, a cement block or jack stands can save your life in that case.

  • @ec9156

    Change oil and filter at 50% maintenance minder which is about 5000 miles no matter what oil dino or synthetic. If you go longer, 4 cyl engine will burn 1 quart oil every 4-5k miles which Honda claims is normal, NOT. They want you to burn the piston rings, thus burns oil, won't see smoke either.

    • @Wingnut353

      Well... its worth it to know how as you wont have to hassle with going somewhere to get it changed during working hours... you can just do it in the evening after work. And you'll save some money also. It really is quite easy on a Honda... and most domestic vehicles as well.
