GTI is a fast, amazing, and good-looking car. I bought a mk8 a couple months ago, and I'm happy with it. This version mk8.5 is not available yet in my country.
In Spain things are a bit better, 48k € full equiped. It's expensive, but well, taking everything in consideration, It is not an exclusive problem of the GTI.
For all the people complaining about the price, go to your nearest Ford dealership! Mate, you'll pay $85k for a Ford Ranger!!! A Ute!! Cars are not cheap anymore!!!!
I have had mine about a month. The 8.5 GTI started to arrive in UK dealerships in August (2024), the base model being priced at just under £39k. The Clubsport is about £3.5k more. A lot of money, sure, but way cheaper than a Civic Type R. I came from a manual 7.5 GTI having 225 BHP, so the 8.5 has a lot more power (261 BHP). Pity its not available as a manual but that boat has long sailed.
Im glad we are not the only ones in South Africa complaining about VW and their pricing. For some strange reason lately VW has gone crazy in the pricing department. Seems like they are charging people for their loyalty to the brand. Great car though, but VW work on your pricing, its too much
if chasing cars are wanting more to subscribe and ring the bell then start with repositioning the "budget direct" bit that kicks in, & 1 or 2 regular presenters...more reviews from rural Germany for the views.
@@toddstevens8506 With a few cost effective mods the performance of the MK7 can easily equal or surpass the MK8. And IMO the MK7 definitely has a superior cockpit.
@@cyclistman6358You'll get no arguement from me about the interiors, but if you want to add mods, the mk8 will still run rings 'round the mk7 with equal performance add-ons. It all depends on what your priorities are.
@@toddstevens8506 “ Run rings around” ?!?! Come on now. I’ll give the edge to the MK8, but this isn’t a GTI vs R contest. The MK7 was and still is in the opinions of many the best gen to date. And IMO the MK7 looks better on the interior AND exterior. Bottom line from my POV is that if you have a GTI of any gen, you’re ok with me and I’ll be checking out your ride. ☮️
A bargain at $60K really! Yes it is a great car, the GTI has always been a great all rounder, but c'mon what a price increase from just a few years ago! How soon before it is 70, then 80K and totally unafordable...These use to be everyman fun transport at a decent affordable price....

Thought the same but actually it seems to be a very poor perspective. I have seen a lot of vids from the GTI now and the Gage cluster area has never appeared as ugly as in this video 😄
in this video you see a grown kid being happy as he can be (:

Maybe this why VW in trouble in Germany and looking at closing factories
I have a October 2021 Golf 8 GTI paid 37k pre-owned with low mileage love it from South Africa ❤
It's been over 60k for like 10+ years, what rock are you l8ving under

Old school GTI is cool looking forward to seeing this in 2025

A great hatch, I want one.
There aren't many competitors left. Sad isnt it.
Best change they could make to spec is get rid of the crap Bridgestone tyres they tend to fit.
I30N, Civic Type R, Corolla GR
Worth every cent!
@@jeremybean-hodges6397 they all compete against themselves... but only a gti will do the everyday job... you will see when you drive them back 2 back
@@jeremybean-hodges6397the CTR and GRC are like $20k+ more expensive. I30N, as great as it is, doesn’t have nearly the refinement the GTI brings.

The best time to buy a GTI/R was the MK7 gen. It was right after the VW scandal. I bought my MK7 GTI brand new for $23k.
Bet you, people will be looking at. Retro fitting all those new switches into their Golf Mk8's...😉
Not at all I own the prefacift no issues you get used to the set up
That does look and sound fun. Look forward to give it a try myself. :)
60k for this
85k for the new type R
That’s off the charts
When they priced these , did they just throw darts at a board?
$60k Aus plus on roads so about $70k Aus is bargain?
No. No it’s not.
I wonder how long it will take for the silver coating to wear off those steering wheel buttons
All these comments about price
Makes me wonder if they e bought a car recently. All car prices have gone through the roof the past 3 years.
Wish the clubsport was available here in the States.
The gloss black and lack of physical volume and climate controls still makes that cabin look far less livable than a mk7.5
What are the tyres on this particular unit in the test?
Not sure about those seats look huge.
Great review I own a 8 GTI loving every minute of it..
big step foward from 7.5❤
love his energy
A$60K + onroads. Great.
Only 2 months to go before mine arrives
what size tyres is the car fitted with?
this guy does not give bad reviews it seems...
Is that a metallic red??
probaply the best option to buy
yes, Kinds Red Metallic
Good to see your review on 8.5 gti ❤ can i introduce this video clip with Korean subtitles for golf lover here on my channel?
Do we have 0-100 figure btw?
I wish the black grill wasn't so large and menacing. I guess plastic is cheaper than paint
I love my 2019 Golf R stage 1 definitely will not change my mind less then 35k amazing.

Maybe 40k in USA
I like my current mk8. The 8.5 has some AI crap in it running at all times and I don’t want my car having anything like that

I saw one of these out today tearing around the commercial areas, its already in Australia.
Q2 2025 is false
You’ve probably seen a mk8 lol
Gloss Black on the centre console equals fail and no ventilated seats equals fail. 70k lol
My 2021 cost $32k! Double???
Haha! 😂
I'd rather just get a 7.5 gen for the simpler and classic interior tbh.
Yeah - go back into the early 2000`s then.... no wireless carplay is a dealbreaker nowadays for many
