This movie never gets old. I believe it could come back in the the year 2100 and it would be as funny then as it is now. I don’t know how many times I have watched it! A masterpiece!

I can still vividly remember gasping for breath out of laughter, repeatedly, the first time I saw this. December 1974 with my buddy Mike Gruver. No other movie has had quite the same effect.

Mel Brooks is, in my mind, the greatest writer and director in movies since movies became a thing. Pity about the "no offense" thing, since his brilliant humor was hobbled by an over-abundance of political correctness. All a late middle-aged man's opinion of course, but I wish we'd stopped at don't be an asshat.
Racism is undeniably one of the great evils, but the humor from such stupidity is equally undeniable. Like the funniest graffiti I've ever seen, in 5-foot high letters on a West Texas barn "Injuns go home". I laughed for 50 miles.

My freshman year in high school i was auditioning for a role in our nightime production. Everyone in drama HAD to audition. And it was a musical. So we also had to sing. Ugh. I was sick to my stomach. I was so nervous I almost puked. I was seriously thinking of dropping the class.
An older student saw how distraught I was and suggested we do a duet. Said that it would ease some of the pressure. So I went for it.
One of the best decisions of my life.
So we walked away from everyone and began to rehearse one of the most beautiful duets ever performed on the silver screen.
Puttin on the Ritz by Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle.
And he did Gene Wilders part flawlessly.

The main reason I love this movie so much is the VCR.
Having been a new invention in the early 80's, it was a novelty to own such a device. Like all new devices on the market, the content was limited and as a consequence of this my family only owned one movie, Young Frankenstein. Before time inevitably marched on and we procured more movies, I had by then already watched this comedy a multitude of times...almost equaling the number of views given to the other video cassette tape stashed in Ol' Dad's drawer in his closet. ;) Oh to be young and give a damn!

In our country we were always a bit late and Playstation only came with 4 games at the first months. Crash Bandicoot 2, Tekken 1, Spyro and something I don't remember because the name was written with kanji-s.
I remember replaying them 6-7 times.
I know it's not perfectly related sorry about that but I was fascinated by your story and reminded me of my own!

The person with two heads was a gag that was replaced with the abby normal scene. In the original script, Igor says "may my mother grow another head if that isn't the right brain" and then it cuts to the two-headed woman in the rocking chair.
    Personally, I prefer Abby Normal...

I took a photography class from the DP for this film in the '90s. He showed it to us, which is the first time I ever saw it. He said Gene Wilder was great to work with.

I recall seeing the Transylvania Station scene when Dr. Fronkinstein met Eye-gor for the first time. Fronkinstein called him Igor (ee-gor) and the comment, "It's eye-gore." Fronkenstein says, "I thought it was Igor (ee-gore)." To that Igor responds, "If you can be Fronkenstein i can be eye-gore." That explains why he was called eye-gore all through the film. That little scene was deleted in the VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray versions. Why???

Great movie...Another Wilder masterpiece ahead of it's time. All the cast that has passed in this film went way too early/young.

This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. What a great bunch of Actors to put together for this film. My wife and I must have watched it a "hundred" times. If we catch it on TV we stop whatever we're doing to watch however much is left. No matter where we are, if I say, "Frau Blucher", my wife will "Winny". We get strange looks and some applauses in restaurants.

The magic ingredient of all the great Mel Brooks comedies like "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "Spaceballs", etc, is that he was never scared of being silly or risque.

My God, we have lost so much talent and beauty. Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, and Gene Wilder are gone. Terri Garr has suffered from horrible health problems. Thank all of you for making life, not just more fun, but better for so many people.

I would bet the farm (if I had a farm, which I don't,) that I and most of my closest friends over the decades have quoted every line in this movie more than once, and some lines over a hundred times. This one, and A Clockwork Orange.
