We love mayor Pete in South Bend for good reason. He knows how to talk to people and solve problems and he refuses to play political head games. When we moved to South Bend 13 years ago it was in shambles. Mayor Pete's leadership has been instrumental in making it a place I am proud of I never want to leave. I believe he could do the same with America as a whole. He is statesmanship in the 21st century.

I’m a Pete supporter! He is extremely intelligent, clear, humble, ethical, human driven to make peoples lives and improve our chance for a democratic nation in reality versus the bs version of American delusion that we are ( THE USA ) a democracy”. Mr. Mayor I want to that your parents and extended family for nurturing such a fine man, a gentleman, a courageous man and thoughtfulness. Cross your fingers. We deserve this man to make all of us better citizens. 🤞🏻

.... if he didn’t take a bunch of corporate and special interest cash for his campaign… We need to get money out of politics… We need to put people over profit… Unfortunately, Pete does not do that. #Bernie2020 for all who still plan to support Pete for the 2020 primary, I highly suggest we all work together to get him to stop taking corporate money and special interest donations… We can push him in the right direction! He has potential! I just can’t vote for anyone with such a lack of transparency funded mostly by the wealthy..

I'm giving all the candidates a good listening. I expected to listen to Mayor Pete as a young guy maybe smart but not his time and move on to the stars but he stopped me in my tracks and I kept listening and thinking about the deep intellect, disarming honesty, and heart felt existential connection with the troubling times ahead. He handles his being gay with such grace even a homophobe has to realize he is special beyond that. As a boomer, I don't see anyone who is better than him among the current candidates including Beto. He is not only the millennial in the race but a generational candidate you see maybe once or twice in your life time. He's right to run. He has a unique message. Don't forget to donate even a little so he is on the same stage as the stars in June. I just listened to a sharp NPR pundit go through the Dem candidates and Pete did not get a mention. If he gets noticed, watch out. The 'it's your turn' candidates seldom win but 'new' can win. Pete is new and right for our times. A faithful married gay guy beating Trump wouldn't that be wonderful?

Thats a horrible idea, policy pushes forward the discussion and what people know about, look at Bernie Sanders. Medicare for all was a fringe idea in 2015, now the majority of Americans want it, BECAUSE OF HIM, and his bringing the policy proposal into the centre of the dialogue. If a leader waits until the last step to come up with what they will do, then theyre not a leader, theyre a follower. No meaningful progress is ever made without daring policy first, not the other way around.

It’s so interesting watching even Dan tussle with forming his questions. That’s not at all meant to disparage his capabilities as an interviewer. But you can see, tangibly, him be disarmed by Mayor Pete’s completely different vocabulary in talking about our country. It’s so unlike other candidates who speak in terms of for this and against that. You can feel how deeply and broadly Mayor Pete has thought about the very nature of what it means to be an American citizen. He reframes an entire way of thinking with such organic ease I’m questioning my own limited thinking & challenging myself to do better. If that isn’t Presidential, nothing is.

I couldn’t agree more. I think that his approach to not only reframe policy which others have done but his approach to reframing the party’s platform in terms of values and most importantly how to approach as well as understand the minds and motivations of undecided, liberal and conservative voters. I love his vision of a big picture coupled with his deep understanding of all of the issues that surround that view.

The only negative I see is a lack of name recognition. People will point out his age, but he's been a mayor for the entirety of his 30s...he has more executive experience than both our last 2 presidents had when they came into the office. People SAY they want an "outsider", but then they vote for a career politician (Obama) and a Manhattan socialite (Trump)...if we want to be genuine, we need more state and local politicians to step up to the national plate, and not through the legislature: they need to go to the executive.

@@bernlin2000 - Actually , in an odd way, I think his name recognition is increasing at a pretty decent rate for this early in the race. When he ran for chair of the DNC, I thought his actual name would be a disadvantage simply because people wouldn't know how to say it and would avoid talking about him for that reason. Since then, his name has become a kind of talking point for the media, with many of them opting for "Mayor Pete" - partly because it's easier to say, partly because that's how he's known in Southbend. This makes him sound friendly and informal. Now, a larger number of people are correctly saying his name. He is certainly the most articulate candidate I've heard since Barack Obama. And can somebody explain how it is that he makes "no jacket" look good while Jim Jordan makes it look so bad?

The book he wrote (I'm reading it now) is about why he wanted to come back to his hometown and why it was important for him to try to bring it back from being called a "dying city." As he says here, he was offered the chance to run for Congress (and might have had a shot of winning with his level of political talent even in a red district), but he found more of a sense of purpose in serving, and bringing back to life, the place that shaped who he is.

Pete is a man with significant military experience, executive government experience, and a truly phenomenal academic experience. He is perfectly qualified to represent and lead our nation. In fact, as the mayor of a mid-sized Midwestern city he arguably represents our nations inner most sentiments better than anyone out of D.C. Mayor Pete is the jam, he is articulate, progressive, very clear-cut and presenting a compelling argument on issues across the board. it is really refreshing to listen to a candidate that has thought through all the issues over a long period of time, he speaks in a way that sounds authentic and not like he is reading a list of talking points prepared by handlers who just came out of a focus group. He is able to articulate clearly his vision and the steps to get there. I have to say he surprised this jaded former Hill staffer an a inside the beltway DC-ist. Mayor Pete has quickly risen to the top of the list of current presidential hopefuls for me.

I think the thing that's so impressive to me about Mayor Pete is that he doesn't just have a platform; he has a PLAN and is fully prepared to speak about it extemporaneously without sounding like he's reading a bullet point list. He's an amazing communicator and is laying the groundwork for what a Pete presidency would look like with compassion and just plain down home good sense. I think the conservative platform is generally the right one when things are going well, because it's become the platform of the status quo. I think that right now is NOT the time for cleaving to the status quo; too many things are broken. Now is the time for bold plans, forward thinking, and creativity to solve the issues created by the last several, centrist, presidencies. Go, Mayor Pete!

The first time I heard this guy’s name was watching the DNC chair candidate debate early 2017. Two minutes into it, I announced I supported his 2020 presidential bid (and a name change, but he’s obviously ignored my sage advice on that one). Every word that comes out of this guy’s mouth is well formed. Every interviewer I’ve heard him with approaches him with some measure of condescension. He keeps cool, answers their ridiculously basic questions, and speaks intelligently on every subject of substance he is allowed to approach. He’s got Obama level intelligence and understanding, with quicker delivery. He seems approachable, he served his country, and he’s from the Midwest (when are we going to recognize that our country does not elect coastal elite Democrats?). I could go on forever. Pete Buttigieg is where it’s at. Great conversation that could’ve been epic if Dan would’ve shown up prepared to speak with a serious candidate with serious ideas.

First I have to say, Wow! Now beyond that I would say I am totally impressed with Mayor Pete. He is open with his views on current issues as well as the current state of politics in our country. Moreover he is well versed in every issue that came up in this conversation. What I mean by that is that he's knowledgeable of important issues and has a connection and concern about the day to day lives of Americans. He didn't once dodge a question or change the subject but addresses each issue with an understanding, a concern about each one, and a plan on how to get to the best solution. He's obviously intelligent and articulate, not unlike Barack Obama, and gives one a sense of caring for you and your future and for the Nation in general. I was glad to see his comparing the office of Mayor to the office of the presidency. The demands require a person to think on their feet and make decisions on important issues whether it is long or short term but in emergency situations as well. These are things that congressmen or senators aren't in step with and they usually face extended periods of time to come to a decision.
All in all I want to hear more from Mayor Pete but I'd say that if I had to vote for a president today I would be comfortable leaving the voting booth having checked his name as my best choice.

I like him a lot: Articulate, obviously smart and informed, as well as opinionated. I hope he gets to speak at the primary table... if not, I think he'd be a great VP consideration.

This guy is so capable, energetic and curious, I can't imagine him spending (wasting!) 4 or 8 years in such a subordinate role, despite his youth. I agree he would enhance the Democratic ticket, but I think it would be a terrible fit for him and a huge waste for the country. We need him to be at the top of the ticket.

I have never been so excited to support a candidate as I am to support Mayor Pete. This guy is the real deal! I’ve listened and watched every interview of his I can find and am beyond impressed. He’s elegant, kind, humble and unbelievably smart. He completes thoughts, has great ideas that aren’t incredibly far fetched, is grounded in realism and the moment, and is one of the most determined people I’ve ever seen. We as Americans would be beyond lucky to have him in the Oval Office, and I sincerysly hope everyone takes note of this! Pete is what this country needs! He is there future. Go Pete go!

After hearing this whole interview, i now understand why he's climb the polls so fast! Smart intellectual that is comfortable in his own skin, and has such a great unifying presence. What a breath of fresh air from what we've had to deal with these past 2 years.

Mayor Pete makes me so angry because all I want is to find a strong, female candidate to back for 2020 and he is ruining it for me. I have never seen/heard a candidate like him in my lifetime. I think he's truly the future.

Just console yourself with the fact that he's gay, which would be just as much of a first as a woman in a president, and just as politically important.

Rachel Moody did you realize that your comment is funny in a way?! Progressive = black man >> gay man >> woman. Slowly progressing on the gender spectrum. So after Pete, for sure it will be a woman. Lol

Very intelligent comments by this obvious capable candidate. While I'm on the left on some of his policy ideas, at least he has thought about them in-depth and seems to have thought deeply about the inherit issues of the US political system. You could do much worse, just looking at the democratic candidates alone.
