I have similar trouble with the Z stepper. It suddenly stops working and stays at the same depth, destroying my board. It happened twice. There was no overheating, no lousy cables, it just stopped working. The only way to bring it back is by turning off and on. (4040-RENO)

Good afternoon,
Please let me know if they reply with a solution. Next week I'm upgrading the cnc 4030 to a cnc 6060. I'm going to secure the cnc so it can't get out of square hoping that the closed-loop motor work as it was supposed to work.

Still have not heard back yet.It only came out of square since it was tweaked so far in video.It sets on a smooth table top and I marked the front 2 corners with a pencil to see if it moved during this job from any vibration, it didn't move. Thanks for you comment.

I have the same problem three times and is not because the cnc is not square. The cnc became out of square because there is a problem with the cnc. I believe it has to do with the new closed-loop motors function. Excuse my English it is my secondary language.

Maybe the coupler on the stepper slipped,grub screw loose,but when I re ran it as in video it was fine.

Yikes. I guess that is one good example of why you should always watch the work in progress!

It is hard to understand how they can call these machines PRO, and provide such sad spindles. I have a 4040-Pro, and the spindle was downright embarrassing.

The stock spindle only needs a 1/4" ER11 collet (ER11A nut recommended, they can be difficult to snap out of the nut) for quarter inch bits. Replacement collets are available up to 7mm (8mm is out there but they're hard to find), or the equivalent inch sizes. If you have imperial shank sizes the true inch size collets fit them better than metric

A trim router is much nicer, other than noise, but the stock spindle is pretty capable. I've used both on my 4030V2

Thank you but it would of been changed out anyway since I wanted more power. I will look in my bits and supplies from other machines to see if I have that collet and mention in the next video.
