Japan didn’t have grounded power outlets back then, still don’t in some places. The first time I went, I was warned to bring a ground lift plug so I could plug in my Macbook Pro. When I touched the laptop over there, I could feel a small buzz/vibration. My Super Jupiter has a separate ground plug next to the power jack.
Thanks for the info. I don't know when they started using grounded AC inlets but I know the S-760 sampler I have has a grounded one. Some of the lower end gear just had permanently attached power cords, like the MKS-50 which is grounded.
Nicely done JLR, yeah... I can't tell you how many times I have done the old measure twice cut once mistake on wiring lengths !!! Eeee Gads !!! But you're also right, I found it's easier to find the 90° Right angle 3-Prong IEC Cables for our gear these days than any of the older 2-Prong... (think Schrittmacher !!!) to rack mount that thing, it NEEDS a right angle !!! same with the dog gone MIDI cables... I had to connect ALL 4 of those before actual rack mounting of the device... Ahhhhhh the things we learn, but seriously, KUDOS to you for making the video to warn others of modifications and the pitfalls of why we do them to begin with... once again, nicely done JLR !!! PS: I need to chat with you... the new modular has arrived... I has a few questions you may be able to help me with... Cheers, Mark
It's a never ending battle . . .too bad we love it so much! 🤭 Feel free to write or call anytime about your modular, Mark, I'm currently on a very late schedule, I got up at 5 PM today.
For equipment without a earth you could use a C18 instead of a C14, it's essentially the same connector without a earth pin, and they also take the same standard power cords.
Why not ground the product if you can? If it causes problems you can always disconnect it, but safety and probably noise levels will be better with chassis ground connected.

@@JohnLRice My Super Jupiter has a grounded IEC but I think it was modded like this. My Midimoog has a thin 2-connector power cable like a lamp.

Good point! I probably should have ordered some of each but didn't think about it at the time.

@@synthetic88 Sometimes equipment is not designed to be grounded, and doing so might actually increase noise and cause problems (ground loops)
Good job :-)
Thank you! :-)
send you buckets of cash or don't send you buckets of cash I'm confused
Just send empty buckets! 😁
