yo, i dunno why but this got recommended to me.
i admire your passion, and you've definitely got the drive to succeed (without it you cannot survive game dev, lol), but your assumptions may not be entirely correct...
databases aren't actually too impactful in system design and development, specifically for games. also, understanding a coding language is not going to make game dev a breeze. since you're using the language within the constraints of a game engine like Unreal, you'll have to deal with the quirks and eccentricities of the engine itself as well as how the engine applies its scripting language (in this case, C++)
additionally, you could be a really good developer in the technical sense, and still... kinda suck at design, lol. knowing how to build a level and program a movement system doesn't necessarily mean you can make it feel good, rewarding or intuitive. i can put cool maths for my damage calculations in, but if im not making it worth interacting with the combat, thats separate from anything you can fix with tightening your code.
regardless, from what you've said, i see that you've got what it takes, lol. dont lose that spark, you got this (sorry for the essay in response to what is probably your college essay repurposed into a TH-cam video LOL, hope im not coming off as too patronizing)

I really appreciate the feedback. Feedback like this helps me truly understand my path. I’m glad you pointed out the flaws in my assumptions. Guess I’ll just have to do a deeper dive into the Game Development career lol

Cool video, here at Gamecrafters Collective we're running a profit-sharing game making co-operative enterprise. If you want to work with artists, designers, musicians, marketeers and get a game built, tested and published, let me know, we're always looking for new talent, in return (and in addition to profits) you'll get the mentoring needed to become a solid team focused engineer.
Oh and re: databases, I wouldn't worry about it, they're easy! My initial advice would be learn the language and engine, from there you'll know what kind of game you need and whether it needs data (e.g. football sim = massive db of stats = data model and optimisation, or leaderboards = document storage (nosql) etc) at which point you go off and learn data, ditto infrastructure requirements when you need to scale etc etc etc.
Nobody learns everything up front and it's more helpful to learn each module in depth at the point you need it rather than trying to learn bits of everything. You need the context for everything to sink in properly. Hope that helps!

Why do people pay for college to get into game development? You can just learn it on your own, so many free resources online.

Some people need the discipline of an educational setting to keep them on track. Some people also just like to learn in person and with others.
