    The amount of EDC now is ridiculous. The reason: great reviews from Jon.

    I run a code118 wallet with the additional modular backplate. It's pretty much the same as the aluminium wallet you showed but I think it cost less ? One thing I added is the ohto micro pen. It' not expensive and I can easily write with it. It's held under the wallets elastic loop. It save's carrying a big old fashion pen.

    The Wuben X1. Where to start. Mine was an absolute lemon 🍋. Couldn't hold 20 lumens, screw not screwed in just under the fan, couldn't turn it off when in turbo mode ( very dangerous as you can't pop the batteries ). Plus the when turned off the LEDs stay lit for around 5 secs. I am guessing mine was a one lemon but I can't buy another.
    As for the batteries they can easily be replaced using an allen key.

    iPhones use Apples AAC codec to transmit music over Bluetooth which is lossy. To get anything near “Hi Res” you would need LDAC or Apt-X codecs neither of which are available on iPhone. So, unless you use your DAC directly wired to your phone it’s pointless.

    • @JonGadget

      Not pointless because AAC better than SBC and audio improvement more than just the bit rate but agree Android has better options

    The Wuben X1 flashlight has standard replaceable batteries, but four screws have to be removed. So, not a handy quick-change operation, but definitely replaceable with wdely available standard batteries. The X1 is by far my favorite pure flooder (and I have over 50 flashlights).

    I found a maglite solitaire at a discount store recently. One lumen, incandescent, one AAA battery fits in an Altoids tin. I went camping recently and found my LED headlamp was annoying me and decided to use the solitaire. It was enjoyable. More than enough to see in the tent and read, and didn’t wake my companion. I think I’ll see if I can’t get another mini maglite, having lost my old one many years ago. The LEDs are too much for my eyes, and every living being within ten miles knows what you’re up to.

    • @fredfinger7092
      @fredfinger7092 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know where you live but I see on Amazon in the US the incandescent Maglite Solitaire rated at 2 lumens is still available for about twelve dollars. Probably old stock but they'll still work. Not to give away my age but I still have a few of those in a drawer. I have a 750 lumen light in my pocket these days, but somehow in the olden times that 2 lumen light was enough...

    • @fredfinger7092
      @fredfinger7092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martinwroe6319 I'm not saying it's a bad knife. However, in my opinion James Brand in general is over-priced for what you get. Others of course have opinions that differ. If you like the style of the knife, and you feel it's worth what they charge, then you should get one. You might love it and carry it all the time. In all sincerity, I wish you only the best of luck with it. If everyone had the same preferences, it would be a dull world.

    • @martinwroe6319

    • @fredfinger7092
      @fredfinger7092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martinwroe6319 There are hundreds of choices for you. I don't know where you live. In Europe you need a slip joint and a blade under 3 inches. In many countries you can't have a thumbstud or anything that allows one-hand opening. If you live in the UK there are many great choices available from Heinnie Haynes. Maybe a Boker Atlas or Real Steel Windmill. Maybe a Luna? A Spyderco UKPK?
      In the US the sky is the limit. Do you want a liner lock? A button lock? A shark lock? An axis lock (it's off-patent now so you are not limited to Benchmade - Kershaw came out with the very good Iridium recently). Over three inches? Maybe a huge Cold Steel? Maybe a discreet CRKT CEO? Everyone will think it's a pen until you open it.
      I am what you call "frugal". I carry a Victorinox of some model or another, and an Ontario Rat 2. It works for me and is "respectable" but not fancy. If you like the RAT but want a bigger model, you can get a Rat 1. The style of the Rat is not for everyone. Do you like boxy knives? Maybe look at the QSP Penguin. Available in a huge range of materials at great prices. If you like curves, maybe a Civivi Elementum. Something smaller with style and a variety of scale materials? Maybe a CJRB Ria. I would recommend a Spyderco Para 3 or a Benchmade Bugout but again, I feel like the price is high for what you get. But, thousands of people disagree with me and think the Bugout or the Para 3 are great value. If you want to try a Spyderco but don't want to spend the money, Spyderco has their "Byrd" line which are basically the same knives but in slightly less upscale but still decent materials.
      I know that didn't really answer your question but I hope it's somewhat helpful at least as a starting point.

    The X3 output is super impressive, but I would take something like the Fenix lr35r instead for a little more range of 500 meters (rated). With some of these super high-powered flood lights (like the Wuben X3 and the Nitecore TM12k), I sometimes question how bright you really need things right in front of you to be. I personally prefer a light with a little more focus that can throw some of that power downrange.

    • @Rich_EDC
      @Rich_EDC ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's why I mainly use my thrunite tn12 pro. You can't beat that focus of power and distance for the price point. I also carry a small olight i5r eos ti for close up flood situations since 150-300 is plenty up close

    • @JonGadget

    The titanium pen looks great, but i will stay with my nitecore NTP30 (also titanium) for i love the little carbid glassbreaker. I never used it for breaking something, but it is great for making markings on surfaces a normal pen (or even a fisher space pen) can not do.

    Relevant to point out that Bluetooth doesn't provide good audio quality unless using a quality codec (LDAC, Aptx HD etc). The player in question does habe wide support for these codecs, which is great, but the headphones must be compatible. Otherwise the signal will be lossy and a fraction of what it would otherwise be.

    My EDC is the Pioneer X Alox, which I've had for like 4-5 years. It is as slim as the Compact, but it comes in a more durable Alox body. Although it could have replaced the layer for can & bottle opener with the combination tool & made it a two layer knife, but oh well. It has the same scissors, & the 93mm slightly longer blade, with more snappy slipjoints (as in all Alox models). I hope Victorinox comes out with a two layer Pioneer with a scissors & a combilation tool, much like the Compact, & maybe place a nail file on one of the back scales/spines of the tool; I would be really happy to have something like that.

It's OK but all the tools including the very sharp blade are locking. I can't see anything on the packaging to warn UK customers that it is illegal to carry these in public. While your subscribers and others interested in EDC will be aware of this, these are in with fathers day gifts in my local store and would guess most people buying them aren't aware.

      It always sounds weird to me too. But it was discovered by a Dane, and first practical manufacture was by a French chemist, and "aluMINIum" is what they say in Europe. So technically, you and I have been saying it wrong. 😆

    I've gone my whole entire life without needing to carry 1 of these things even 1 time and nothing bad happened to me. I've had a successful career in the music business, maybe the reason is because I didn't throw my life in the garbage by focusing on shallow little trinkets and pieces of gear like many musicians do.

      @@zyxyuv1650 You commented to feel smug. Be honest with yourself. And if you have never carried a pen or a tool or a pair of scissors or a flashlight then you've spent your life borrowing them from those of us who have. Also you work in the music business, but you have never carried a music player or some headphones such as Jon showed in this video? If you make a living making or marketing music, then you owe your living to people having extra money to spend on that luxury. In other words, to consumerism.
