    This works perfect on a 2014 Charger RT (Hemi). I recommend a 6 point socket as the 12 point doesn't grab well unless you cock it. When starting the new sensor, I found it was easier to see from the top. Thanks for this video and instruction. Didn't want to move the alternator.

    Apologies right off the bat for the audio. Didn't do much of a commentary, just mumbled along while holding the phone. Its my first Vid. I had already removed the engine cover and air intake to get the best access. I took a while fiddling with red locking clip and removed it entirely after I found that the connector would rotate (that was handy, dont know if should turn) and used long nose pliers to pull it out. The connector didnt want to come off I and conceded that the serpentine belt needed to go. once that is off you can get you hand onto the connector pretty easily. find and depress the secondary locking tab (which no-one had mentioned before) with your thumb and wiggle the connector off. 27mm (1 1/16" ) double depth socket fits over the sensor. wind it out. I inserted the new one into the socket with 6" extension and started it by hand. The sensor's threads were already coated with a sealant. It was possible to get about 2 turns on by hand and then finished it off with the socket. Before it got fully tight I removed the socket to check orientation of the connector and wound it on another 1/4 turn which made it so i could fit the connector with a natural grip and access the locking tab a little more easily in case it needs to be repeated. I didnt bother putting the red clip back in, that connector is not going anywhere.
    Belt back on, engine start, no leaks, 58 psi at cold idle and shut down. Cleared the trouble code with my predator and restarted. No more CEL, MDS functioning. Not difficult at all if you take off the belt and have the right socket. Leave the alternator where it is.

      @Jon Corke I would love to see the red tab be unlocked. Mine does not protect to either side to even be able to be pushed upon. In others vids it does. I just dont understand.

      Hi thanks for this video! I’ll be using this really soon to replace my sensor. I have a question though:
      Along with the 27mm socket, what size and type of wrench did you use for this repair?

    old video but wanted to throw this out there. I didn't have a 27mm so i was kinda screwed on it as i didn't know if the sensor was bad or if i really had 96 psi of oil pressure. me and a buddy spent about 3 1/2 hours pulling stuff out and struggling with the alternator to get this sensor out with vice grips and prayers. watching this video a half hour after i finished is just insult to injury

    This job can go easily, or make you hate life for an entire day. If the connector has a locking tab that cannot be reached, then the alternator must drop down and away. You'll need to take the serpentine belt off the alternator (not hard, get the wrench from Harbor Freight or use a ratchet wrench). The top alternator bolt isn't hard, the bottom two SUCK. You'll need a 16mm wrench and I could only get to them from the bottom. To make matter worse, the first sensor I put in failed immediately. Don't buy Chinesium junk from Amazon. Get a Dorman brand from Rock Auto. Screw in the new sensor such that the connector locking tab can be accessed with a screwdriver or long pick without resorting to use of a mirror, incantations and colorful language.

    • @joncorke760

      Got a CEL and used my predator to pull the code. Engine oil high i think. Checked the gauge and it was at 147 psi with ign on whether engine running or not. MDS inop with an oil pressure sensor fault. Otherwise no symptoms. Swapped the sensor. All is good.

    What if I broke the tab that I need to push up and or press down? I tried doing this job today and I gave up :/ I backed out all 3 bolts to the alternator and all. It took a toll on me I’m gonna have to remove the alternator completely, and the radiator hose to do this job successfully on my 6.4 since I already broke the the tab on connector. Gonna try again this Sunday bright and early in the morning

    • @joncorke760
      @joncorke760  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the tab is broken off you may be able to withdraw the connector....it just wont lock on but it fits si tight anyway i dont think it needs any kind of extra lock.

    • @pkboy5617
      @pkboy5617 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Corke thanks for your reply I seen there’s a tab that you have to press up..I think that’s all that’s holding it in place right now. I got confused cause the tab that’s red is actually brown. So I am gonna try soon again. This time with the engine cold. Thanks!!
