    In this video, I am bringing you five simple reasons why the GH5 is the best camera for beginner and intermediate videographer going into 2022. This is a fantastic camera that is beating out a lot of its competition, even though it is five years old.

    Moving into 2023 and I just bought the GH5 M2. The GH5 became legendary for good reason, and even today it is amazing for its features. For it price it is simply extraordinary that it has cinema camera features like anamorphic support, open gate recording, shutter angle, vector scopes, etc. The low price allows someone with limited funds to get seriously creative.

      I'm actually planning on buying either another GH5 or a GH5 Mark II for a 4th ceremony camera for weddings. I currently use the GH5 as a tighter (full/mid body) from the back, and I want another as a wide shot from the back and I'm seriously considering another GH5 because of how powerful it is.

    Thank you for making this about GH5 and particularly the price range! I do commercial shoots for small business but still maintain a budget and I cannot fully justify $2500+ as a starting price. I hope manufacturers listen that $1500-1999 is the true sweet spot for semi-pros like me that still need good performance. We will invest in lenses and gear if they can create products that fit our budgets.

    • @jeremypope-levison721
      @jeremypope-levison721  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really hard to afford that price range! I'd rather have two $1500 cameras and lenses than one $2500 camera and lenses.
      Plus the atomos ninja V 4k 60 10-bit really fixes the main problem of the GH5, that 8-bit 4k 60.

      @@thegeekgarage I shot this on the Blackmagic Pocket 4K.
      My setup has changed though since I upgraded to the GH6. That's now my main camera and has since replaced the GH5, but I still use the GH5 as a B cam all the time.

    • @thegeekgarage
      @thegeekgarage ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremypope-levison721 Awesome, thanks, was also going to upgrade my camera setup and was between the BM 4k (which would be the very top of my budget) and the GH5 (after seeing so many rave reviews for it still!). Base on the types of videos I do, what would you recommend?

    • @jeremypope-levison721
      @jeremypope-levison721  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thegeekgarage I mean it all depends too on how much storage you wanna go through. The Pocket 4K on a 128GB card in 12:1, can get an hour and 30 minutes. So basically every hour you record you're at 100GB. Whereas with the GH5, it's less than that.
      For any TH-cam work, I'd recommend getting a used GH5 for like $800 and then I'd you ever go into corporate work where you need higher quality, get an Atomos Ninja V.

    The GH5 is Great! I use it professionally since 2018 in Germany. I use it with the Nokton 10.5 and 25mm f0.95. I use also the old GH4 as a B Cam for interviews. The AF issue is not a issue at all. Professional video tends to use MF anyway.

    great video, totally agree. I would also say the G9 is a great option. Even cheaper and not every feature, but so capable and the autofocus is even usable now in a pinch. I prefer the ergonomics on the g9 and if you are a hybrid shooter there are some really nice photo features. Also makes a great Bcam to a gh5. I imagine there are going to be a million used gh5 's on the market. Lots of people are switching to sony and even those of us that are staying are likely to be tempted to buy the gh6.

    Bought a used GH5 in May of 2020. Works great. How can the autofocus be a problem when all you have to do is set it in manual focus and just press the back button focus. It's easy.
    A great solution for low light filming is a Metabones 0.68 Speedbooster for a Nikon lens. Get a vintage Nikkor 50mm F1.4 and it works great. Got the idea from a Finnish guy's channel called Joo Works.

    GH5 is definitely an awesome camera, still using it to great effect in my pro work and is still a great option if you've buying a modern cam. Just feel like I need to point out tho that I bought a panasonic S5 for $1500 which shoots 10 bit 4k 60p as opposed to the GH5's 8 bit limitation, a highly over looked full frame (APSC for the 60p) option that like the gh5 hits way above it's weight class. Better low light options and gets around the need for a speed booster but don't have the micro 4/3 lens lineup so there's some trade off there.

      The S5 is a great option but doesn't it have a 30 minute record limit?

    So with the low light situation:
    Firstly it’s not recommended to use V-log-L in low light (cine D or Natural perform better).
    There are several F0.95 lenses available (which can record images brighter than the actual scene), Voigtlander being the famous brand but ZY Mitakon and 7Artisans offer cheaper alternatives or
    If you’re not intending on taking photos then a used GH5s is a better video camera; dual native ISO (400 and 2500) and (with the latest firmware update) the ability to record 12bit RAW to the Atomos Ninja V!

    hi, thanks for a great video.. I know is a year since this came up but found it now...
    like to ask you a couple of things
    - is there a point now in 2023 to not chose the gh5 and go with the gh5 ll?
    there is 400 dollar price difference between them as second hand cameras where I am looking now, a gh5 body is about 700 dollars and a gh5ll house/body 1200 dollars...
    so thinking that buying an used gh5 and add some lights to it is better than the gh5 ll and add some cheaper lights??... not sure..
    I am too new to this :)
    - but what lights would be good for low light situations to shoot both for podcasts but also to shoot actors at 1-3 meter distances ?
    - and what mic to start with?
    -is the zoom m3 a great choice or are there cheaper mics that could be better?
    -is it possible to add XLR jacks to this camera somehow with an adapter to connect the Shure 7b directly to the camera recording for podcasts?

      It is better I agree. Pricing is still at $1700 compared to a used GH5 at $1000 or less though.
      As for the 10-bit, you can use an atomos and get even better 10-bit on either too.
      AF is still iffy. It's a lot better but it's no canon or Sony.
      On that note though, one thing I didn't mention in the video is more the GH5 series going into 2022. I have the GH5 but I'm about to get a GH5 II. GH5 is still really good and if you're doing TH-cam videos or even corporate videos, the GH5 would be almost identical.

    • @jeremypope-levison721

      Hey man! It technically decreases focal length to full frame or close to it. Plus it drops the f stop by a full stop which is awesome.
      It cannot handle TH-cam talking heads but I never use autofocus for interviews or TH-cam. I set my focus and it's good to go.
      I prefer the GH5 simply because it's got 4k 60 fps, no record limit, adaptable lenses, better IBIS and the colors straight out of camera are beautiful. Plus it's cheaper

    Your first comment pissed me off ... to say that Gh5 is for beginners as well as "possibly" for professionals in 2022 was a real nonsense.
    First of all, this camera is NOT for beginners, not with that shitty autofocus (and in which you have to master the manual focus well, your word, you only have one chance when shooting a video), it is intended for intermediate videography as well as professionals.
    To say that "possibly" for professionals in 2022 is real nonsense. I can bet with any idiot that I as a professional will release quality in 2025 with this camera and that the professionals themselves can't tell the difference between a video clip shot with gh5 or any other camera up to medium format (this is excluded, the difference is huge).Be careful next time you make such silly statement.

      In terms of best price for performance, I would go with a GH5. Specifically because it's still really great in current times.
