Ha, your video description is exactly how I ended up with one. I was trying to pick which high end 90's JDM car I wanted to buy or possibly import but they were so overpriced for absolute dogshit and I noticed how everyone was name dropping the LS1 left and right for a reliable drivetrain and then I saw C5s randomly in my Facebook Marketplace clusterfeed and was like "wait, Corvettes cost how much!?" I always thought Corvettes were pretty expensive, I couldn't believe I was seeing mint low miles manuals for under $20k with no outstanding issues, it wasn't some project car with half of it disassembled sitting in the passenger seat for once. The grand irony that C5s were the car everyone was targeting to beat with their modded JDMs and now it's the car you get mint for $20k while some half-destroyed 240 sells for the same price.
Somehow the Gigaboomer vette is even funnier the second time around. This was a great stream.

I bought my manual LS3 C6 in 2019 for 16k with just over 100,000 Miles. Seeing the prices of these cars now is pretty crazy. I wish they were still affordable so more people could enjoy them.
The platform is super easy to modify, maintain and is unbelievably reliable.
The LQ9 Motor is not uncommon for people who want to make a ton of power with forced induction, they swap to get the cast iron block to hold more boost. Not as insane as you'd think.
It wasn't a boosted car so the swaps desirability is irrelevant and a downgrade in ruining the balance and light weight aspect of a track focused car. The aluminum stuff still routinely does four digit outputs with a decent durability so iron block stuff really isn't necessary to 99% of people

Yeah, that engine swap is the go to for many many many 1xxx whp cars.
If i remember right the reason they made the Z06 a FRC was because that bodystyle wasn't selling. The other stiffness and weight benefits helped but need to move product was the biggest reason.

Sadly, the senior citizen community owns most of the c5"s and selling them for 20k + more. Only a matter of time when the c5 will flood the market. They will look great w/ some mods to the body to resemble the Rx7 FD.

Hey there. Just someone from Lawrenceville, Ga. The yellow Z06 does have my least favorite color combo with black and red interior, but I bet that car looks GREAT sitting next to the curb outside a TGIF (TGI Friday's) picking up a date after having a bite and a giggle. And if it's a TGIF next to the mall entrance, my gosh what an entrance!
The C5 Z06 came with two seat color choices. Black or black and red. The "sport" seats that came in the base models had somewhat of a separate head rest, more support; and like the torch red exterior, red sport seats, red carpet and trim '04 C5 I DD, have air powered bolsters and lumbar support and are known to be "better" more supportive seats than the Z06. The Z06 seats do NOT have any air powered bolster or lumbar support and are a solid almost flat seat back with no separate head rest. Alot of people who get a Z06 change the seats because they are known to be almost dangerous on the track.
I've read someone state they slid out of the seats around corners while driving and had to use the steering wheel to hold them in place. In the base model, the air powered bolsters really change the feel of the car around corners. Most people say they like the Z06 but do not like the seats.
I picked up my 99' for $12k! It's crazy to see some of these prices in this video! Thanks for the laughs though!

I had an auto 06 vette & got out of it when the market was high. Planning on getting another in a manual, or something similar like a SVT Cobra or a C63. Tried looking at C5s and couldn’t get over the interior in them, the C6s were a MASSIVE improvement.
sht taste, the C6 looks like a Malibu inside, the C5 looks like a Jaguar XJ220 or some other high end 90's supercar.

Funny enough the Silver ZO6 was another TH-camrs car. He had some cylinder wall issues on the LS6 and got a built LQ9 which is a six liter block
That last build needs C4, and by that I mean plastic explosives.

The thing about salvage corvettes is the body is all fiberglass so in a crash it gets all fucky even if the crash isn’t that bad

I know this is old vid but c5 and lotus esprit turbo were last cars to be sold with pop ups both in 2004 I believe. Because of DOT regulations it was basically impossible to keep them.
I remember in 1999/2000 everytime I saw a C5 vette if see a boomer in it. Lol. They were EVERYWHERE. I'd see them as much as a Civic on the road almost.
The C5 is easily my favorite Corvette. Nothing fancy, RWD and a V8 is all you get, it's all you need. Chevy unintentionally made a pure sports car thats incredibly fun to drive. The lack of interior amenities makes you focus on the fact that you're driving a low powerful sports car made almost entirely of plastic that'll most certainly not protect you in any sort of collision.
People hate the boomer cliche these have. But as a c5 owner, they are the best thing. They tank the depreciation, while keeping the miles low, while also keeping them mint for me to buy 20 years later for 20k. Not to mention they write up every problem you’ll encounter with a perfect guide on how to fix on the corvette forum. c5s are a blast and reliable, can’t beat em for the price.

The LQ9 is actually the 6.0l truck motor. The 5.3l is the LM7. Either way, hard pass on a Z06 with a cheap engine swap.
id say the 350z is the new 240 for drifting because they are so common and cheap
Guy talks smack on the most desirable c5 lmao... c5z is highly sought after for its look. The brake ducts also function there's tons of awesome things about a c5z such as stock they come with Ti axle backs,thinner glass for weight savings, shot peened gears etc.

Haha absolutely not. The c5 is the only car I can think of where I wouldn’t choose the slightly better performing version. In fact just bought a coupe. The only way a z06 is worth the dealing with the looks is if you don’t plan to change anything. If the z06 was so much better…… they wouldn’t have still been running the coupe in lemans up to the end of c5 production and why they went straight back to high performance coupes after the c5. It’s was a mistake that they ditched as soon as they could 😂

I don’t think the C5’s had the cool 180 degree flip around lights that the C4 had. I think they just pop up.
Also, the C6 is such a better car than the C5, I would hesitate to spend C6 money on a C5. I’d get a C5 if it were significantly cheaper. I’ve driven both for a week each in the 2000’s when they were new. I liked the C5, but I loved the C6. (driving-wise, even the base C6 handled great)
Drive them like Xander Cage and they will be!

I dropped an l33 into mine and forged it. Boosted the shit out of it and its sitting at 620 whp now. Also the interior isn't "bad"... its just not good. All said and done it is clean and focused for a lightweight sports car that can easily walk new "fast" cars with a little cash thrown at them.
Edit: also, watching some supposed car guys bitch about a truck motor when the viper exists is pretty embarrassing. The lq9 is the usual go to four four figure whp vettes.

I had the lq9 swapped z06. You guys might want to get your facts straight before you try roasting people. That's a 6.0l with 243 heads which basically makes it an iron ls2. A lot of people swap these in when the stock motor blows up because you can't find them anymore. It only adds 100lbs to the front of the car and was not noticeable at all...I rip canyons with this thing all the time. Not to mention you can add an aggressive supercharger setup and make 1000hp reliability. The ls1/ls6 is an extremely weak engine. Either the block cracks in half or cylinder 7 or 8 sleeves Crack and can't be repaired.
