  • A video detailing the disassembly and reassembly of the Native 5 LW and how to service and maintain the knife. This is important, especially for the non-stainless Maxamet steel.

    Hi again, I recently did a service on my Sage-5. I wanted to use a lubricant that wouldn't disappear the first time that I washed the knife in hot water & detergent. Where I live the temperature regularly reaches the mid 40s (celsius) at this time of year so I was also looking for something that would not end up running down the blade on a hot day. I decided to experiment with a tube of thick silicone grease that I have. I think it is designed for plumbing fixtures. If things went awry it would simply be a matter of trying again with a more conventional lubricant. So far I have been very pleased with the results. A small amount of this grease goes a long way. The action is silky smooth, it is holding up well to the local conditions & regular washing. You may find it worth a try on your Native-5. Ciao, fm.

      I do think that greases often work better with these washers. I just happen to have 10w oil on hand. I would like to try silicone lubricants. Maybe even graphite lubricants.

      Silicone sex lubes dont work as good, it gets tacky. Coconut or Olive oil can be used, especially for food prep. I was just about to use Graphite lubricant. Fishing reel lube could also work, its designed for staying during wet sessions.

    Good vid. I've been contemplating the native 5 or the manix lightweight in maxamet I love how compact the native is but my would love to see this steel in the delica I'm sure they will have one down the road

      Maybe, maybe not. The Delica is a true budget model. The Native comes in S35VN in sotck trim, and the Delica in VG-10. I wonder if they would upgrade the Delica to this steel. I just reeeealy want a PM2 in Maxamet.

    I got a fantastic Wiha 27 piece set a while back. Paying the extra $10 over the ubiquitous poorly machined multi-part sets was a no-brainer. Even has a metal case. knives aren't the only thing I need it for! Do you have any opinions/experience with Daiwa, Hoppe's 9 or Tuf Glide as far as lubricants in different situations? I went from Hoppe's to Daiwa, never could quite pull the trigger on the Nano Oil 10 wt. I know a shootout is impossible, I'm not even sure I can tell the difference between Hoppe's or Daiwa TTTT save for the superior Daiwa needle. And what, _no custom Native 5 scales?_ I guess that would be pretty involved. BTW, I was just looking at the regular Dk Blue FRN (again) and saw the 40th anniversary in Damascus. Shame they had to plaster 40th Anniversary all over the presentation side of the blade.

    Red Loctite isnt permanent and it isnt impossible to remove, its actually gluey, that seems normal to me. Blue Loctite is weak, its enough to keep screws wiggling out

    hi doc,i was thinking about getting this LW-version and using its blade on a older G10/S35 model as its seen better days!=blade swap if you will,see any problem with this! also i see the nano/10W in back ground,this stuff is okay on lock backs!but my PM2's seem to hate it,and get a little stiff where blade will not drop free,thank you,grate voice you own.

      Thanks man! Ball bearing pivots tolerate more lube. Washers need only the smallest amount of oil or you get gunked up. Love this series of knives, thanks for your comments!

      Blane biondolillo did you ever do the blade swap? I was wondering that too.

      I enjoy it. I mostly just like the little applicator tip. Probably moist oils will work fine, but I have been happy with this one. Doesn't seem to form a dark residue.

    Why would one need to disassemble a knife for maintenance? Especially a backlock, you're just inviting the opportunity to break your knife and strip screws.

    • @DoctorFrunkey
      @DoctorFrunkey  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asmodius some people will use this knife in ways that will require cleaning and or repair.
