*Love this unit! Using upstairs in my sons bedroom **Fastly.Cool** and he’s finally able to be comfortable upstairs without me freezing downstairs. Works for more sqft than expected!*

      Stop placing these links everywhere.
      It's annoying.

thanks so much for posting this! i have the same unit and have the thermosensor issue as well. I'd found written directions elsewhere but they were not clear. your video was very helpful in taking the unit apart and relocating the sensor to another location. thank you SO much! SO HELPFUL!

I think that because these types of units cools the condenser with cold inside air instead of hot outside air, they might be more efficient than outside air cooled condensers units?

I have a soleus air 10000BTU portable AC that has the water pump always running. I would think the pump should only turn on when the float switch is triggered, but thats not happening. I wish I could find a video on other AC units to see if their water sump is always running as well, but I cant really find anything helpful... I suspect the relay that triggers the pump is bad, but I cant find anything to compare.

Could you use sound deadening mats in all panels for acoustic and thermal insulation of the Portable AC unit? Will it make a difference in max dBs and efficiency?

Thanks for the video. It is a nice and helpful video.
I would like to check with you whether the compressor of a portable AC is supposed to always run in AC mode?
I just bought 12000 BTU portable AC 2 weeks ago. Its compressor keeps switching on and off for 10 and 3 minutes respectively. This will only happen if I set the temp to 77 or above (longer off time for higher temp).
However, it will constantly run (always run) if I set the temp to 75 and below.
BTW, my room temp is around 82-84
    Thanks in advance.

I guess you can easily convert this type unit to two hose, by 3D Printing a duct that replaces the bottom filter, and you can attach a second hose to it to become more efficient

so the splashing motor in the tray is making alot of that splashing sound in the portable ac unit I have and it is quite annoying..any ideas on what i can do about it?

Located to the rear of the unit, closer to the bottom, you will see a place to attach a hose. That will allow the water that collects to the bottom of the unit to drain out. The things is that you will prpohave to drill a hole to the outside of your house in order for the hose to go through so the water can drain to the outside. Or if you lift the unity higher up, you can drain it directly into a bucket. You will have to be careful not to overfill the bucket.

I have the same thing. I cleaned everything but it won't blow cold air. Any suggestions?

Awesome video! I have almost the same, well obviously manufactured by the same company. Same shitty sensor placement *facepalm*. No wifi or motorised front flap though. I assume your unit also only has one motor for both fans - so you cannot run it in the fan mode and not have to blow air out the hose for no reason.
I am wondering how does the dehumidifier work??? For my unit, in the dehum. mode, it runs the compressor and cools the air just like in the cool mode, but it does produce much more water. How is that achieved?

    • @cluelessguy1754
      @cluelessguy1754  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeap, same crappy one motor setup.
The dehumidifier is basically an ac unit in reverse with a much weaker compressor and lower btu rating. It pulls the humid room air through the evaporator (cold coils), the coils sweat because of the humidity in the air, water drips down to the reservoir, and the air continues to go through the condenser (hot coils) in order to further dry the air and that in process warms the air thats coming out of the unit. Then units can have a drain hose leading to the outdoors or just a tank to collect all the condensation.
Now obviously a normal ac unit can't run in reverse so they use a little trick. They turn the compressor off and on for a short time until the evaporator coils get cold, turn off for time, and then turn back on to cool the evaporator again. So you cant really have a dehumidifier without dealing with the compressor going on and off.
In just the cool mode, there is usually a little motor on the bottom of the tank that splashes the collected water on the hot condenser coils in order to help make it evaporate and then a fan blows the hot humid air to the outside.

@@cluelessguy1754 I did notice the compressor turns off after some time in the dehum mode and decided to time it. It's after 30 minutes of running. It stays off for 3 minutes (which is the compressor protection timer function). And then runs for another 30 minutes.
However, are you suggesting that the only difference in the dehum mode is that the little splashing motor is turned off, so that the user has the feeling of dehumification as they get to see the water leaving the machine via the outlets?

Those times seem a little excessive to me. I dont know if the specific unit you have gives you the option to pick the percentage of humidity but on the 3 total units that i have (this JHS one and 2 monster Whynter units) the compressor spends more time being off than on in the dehumidifier mode). Generally the compressor should spend more time being on in the AC mode than on the dehumidifier more, otherwise it would defeat the purpose of having a dehumidifier mode and not run it full on AC and just set the temperature higher. I guess one could think the dehumidifier more as an energy saving AC mode.
I can be wrong ofcourse, I often am. I would love for a professional to chime in and let us know how AC and Dehumidifier units vary in operation. Especially units that have a single exhaust tube and those that have 2 vent tubes.

@@cluelessguy1754 The room I use is larger than the specs of my unit (Hantech 9000) actually, so that may be why the time is so long I guess. In the AC mode, the compressor runs all the time (thanks to the size of the room and the sensor placement too, of course).
Yet anyway, the water tank gets filled up in the dehumidifier mode and never got full in the AC mode.
I will have a look inside once the warranty is gone next year (got 2 years I think)
