For many, a mere bike helmet was the difference between life and death or a tbi that would have affected their quality of life greatly. There's more to worry about than just bullets. If you might get hit in the head, wear a helmet.
I say, you should at the very least get a steel pot helmet and a .22 pistol. Don’t underestimate the .22lr bullet. Honestly, I’d get one of those Russian “Maska-1sch” (the Russian helmet that tachanka from a Rainbow 6 Siege wears, along with the Killa from EFT) and a modernized AK47.
If ur good with wearing an 8lbs helmet that goes for upwards of 600 dollars and offers the same protection as a lighter 300 dollar helmet then go ahead lol
Love my Commtac 3's on my team Wendy exfil ballistic... had them for over a year now and no issues and they integrate with my radio perfectly. I'm about to use them in a defense technologies flashbang instructor course in Rockwall, Texas so I will give them a really good workout
A ballistic helmet is good in case a civil disturbance (Charlottesville) occurs in your area but also people never consider is protecting the head during hurricanes or tornado's. Yeah, you'll probably look stupid sitting in the basement or in some interior hallway from an outsiders point of view, but people never consider protecting the head during these times. A bump helmet doesn't have enough protection, in my opinion. And with the low price of PASGT / MICH helmets running around $70 to $100 each, its a great investment. Now back to you Bryan!
Shayan Bagheri any helmet will work. It about protecting your head. Depending where you live, walking around wearing a M35 could make some people nervous.
HAHA M35 would work for practicality, However I agree with Peter about it making some people nervous. Especially the looks you may get from other people who leans American and Antifa. :P

Not only is this about the only video on TH-cam with the 3M Ultra Light Weight Ballistic Bump Helmet N49 (other than an official 3M one), but this was not too long after it came out. That's due to the fact that in the PASGT and gen 1 LWH, the suspension type liner only had to hold your head about 1/2 an inch away from the shell of the helmet. The ACH standard issue pads are 3/4 of an inch thick, and that's where the sizing issues come in. There are some companies out there that make 1/2 inch thick or even thinner pads out there for ballistic helmets such as Oregon Aero and Team Wendy. I have a huge head, and have an XL Enhanced Combat Helmet. When I first got it, the pads that came with it made wearing it painful, so I bought some aftermarket pads that were softer/thinner and I've been fine ever since.
Those two high cut helmets are nice and all, but I don't think everyone can afford helmets that run at $1k a pop. The best option for a modular helmet on a budget would probably be an DH-132A/B shell that you can convert yourself. I regret not buying them when they were so cheap because airsoft nerds buy the hell out of them driving the price up. Still amazes me why they buy these expensive gears for fake guns and mags. My question is the sizing. Do most medium size helmets fit most people or what? Do those DH-132 helmets run larger then other high cut helmets, since they are used with liners?
The 3M Ultralight Ballistic Bump as they call it is not THAT expensive compared to say a traumatic head injury that one could get without a helmet lol I think if you're really on a budget a good quality ACH or MICH or even ECH would do. Usually $100-$200 at your local surplus store :)

Go to TNVC’s website. That’s where I got my PVS-14’s at. Also look up their nv gear videos on TH-cam for more information to sort that confusion out. Always remember the term “Buy once, cry once...” you get what you pay for in this hobby (guns n gear) you skimp out on stuff to save money, you’ll sooner or later regret it, and will inevitably end up buying the big purchase in the end anyways. So save your money, and just buy what you want, and then begin saving again for your upgrade purchase (bino units with filmless WP tubes- TRUST ME!!!) then you can justify the purchase to your significant other by telling her that your well tested $3,000- 4,000 PVS-14 unit is now hers, and you “only need the new gear” ($8,000-$12,000) to ensure “your team” (mostly her) is always safe in the dark... lol
Cost! That's the big thing! If you get into NVG's, your getting into big money, just the optic alone. Than, the mounts is another huge cost. And the mount is two pieces. The mount to the NVG could go from 2 hundred up to 6 hundred. Than the shroud that connects the mount to the helmet, could be another 5 hundred bucks. Than a ballistic helmet, could be a thousand +. Just a good carbon fibre bump helmet like ops-core like 7 hundred bucks! Every single little piece of gear that goes into a helmet system is a shit load of money. I wish the cost could go down on the mounts, for what they are, they shouldn't be so much. But since there are few manufacturers, And they could make so much money off it because of the Gov contracts, they will.

What PTT are you using? and for what COM? I have the same Peltor Comtac 3s and have been looking for something other then the Peltor HARRIS PTT. thanks!
I think a low mid cut is better protection than a high cut. Can anyone help me understand why a lower cut isn't better? I like the high cut look and ability for comms but im thinking a lower cut gives better protection and the trade off is worth it. Also in today's day and age can't we make way slimmer but effective comms to fit under the ach?

Oakley makes prescription lenses for their line of products. If you are a Vet or first responder type look into getting on Oakley’s SI member list. They have sales and deals all the time for eyewear and other Oakley gear that either isn’t available to the regular public, or not at the same prices.
Where's a good place/good deals to buy surplus USGI ballistic helmets like the MICH or FAST reasonably? I have K pot now that I would like to upgrade for my NV set up.
So Bryan - do you have a retailer source for the 3M helmets (that will sell to civilians)? I havent found one other than an online retailer whom I would rather not buy from... thanks...
I know I'm in the international minority of your viewers, but it would be amazing if you could give metric measurements/weights in the future! Great stuff about the helmets and earpro - I've been using Peltor IIIs for 2 years now and I love em. Pretty much nothing better than Peltors on the market right now imo.
I have an ach helmet and its not bad. I don't have a team for comms but i cant even really wear eapro without getting a crazy headache. I've tried all sorts of things to make my earpro fit better, but the helmet itself pushes them into my head above the ear. Soooooo if things go down for some reason, ill be using plugs lol.
an ach is great brother, just replace the pads, chin strap and add a nvg shroud a multicam cover in what ever size you got it in and add side rails that conform to the "ears' of the helmet, you could add lights, strobes and ir reflectors and if you have enough money get some night vision goggles like pvs 14's (night vision goggles= nvg)
Let's walk about an Ops-Core helmet with Ops-Core coms; $3k??? I can buy at least four to six sets of level 3A plates with carriers for that price. Obviously the helmets of every brand are EXTREMELY over priced. There is no reason why helmets can't cost the consumer between $500 to $800. The Wilcox G24 mount is about $600. How many people do you think can actually afford this shit? Why not make a video about equipment "normal" people can actually use.
I had a military surplus ballistic helmet, added ARC Rails to it, padding upgrades, and then I traded it for something a while back. Before I tinkered with it, it was identical to the Kevlar helmet I was using in the mid 90’s in the Army. Those had a mounting system with a leather sweat band for your forehead, and a chin strap. That’s it.... Two decades later and I find out these people have foam padded inserts all over the inside of their helmets, making em all soft and gentle... mine sounded like a gong from a cathedral bell inside when you got hit in the head by something. And they constantly flopped back and forth when running or driving because the chin strap only mounted with two contact points not four like newer systems have. And there was no worm gear or screw knob in the back to tighten it to fit the individual better and make it more stable in the head... I have since obtained an Ops Core Jump helmet to protect from bumps and bruises while I save up for the ballistic helmet I wanna graduate to in the future. The jump helmet is nice for a few reasons nobody seems to mention yet. If you are walking/hiking/training etc. you can use the jump helmet because it’s lighter and won’t wear on you like a heavy ballistic helmet would at a time it isn’t needed. Now if you find yourself in a spot where there is shooting, or worse, then you can always don the ballistic helmet for the added level of protection when the need arises. It’s like why carry a 38 lb rifle if you can carry a 8 lb rifle more effectively and move much faster doing it?
@@williamstiefel3908 well i see you have a pagst with some sick mods (i cant even take the cursed chin strap off of my ach lol) but if you had to go to your next ballistic helmet i would recommend getting an ech once there available on ebay its like those fancy helmets with all the protection and the quality and sizing of a normal ach with some differences. also i thank you for your service sir.
I got what the person thought was a PASGT Kevlar Helmet for 60 bucks still in the bag brand new was really a Marines LWH made in 03 and still being used present, the only difference between the 2 helmets is the liner and strap the new LWH has foam pads and advanced chin strap...so there's 100's of LWH that are still in service being sold as PASGT helmets,I found this out when I saw a guy selling an early 90s PASGT and when I compared it to mine notice the screws didn't match and the paint was a soft smooth surface...if you get a new PASGT all you really have to do is buy the FEMA pads and chin strap and you have the same helmet and protection
I still have a Bell helmets Delta used in the late 80s and early 90's I was at a Combat Search and Rescue wing and we got the maritime ACH because we did locally SAR.the same helmet you have that's now called a bump..what I was trying to say in my other posts you can get an LWH for under 100 bucks because people don't realize there the same shell as the PASGT...so you can find a brand new PASGT on eBay and buy a 40$ kit and its an LWH..still being used today, and the LWH goes for over 399 some places
If you want a helmet but don't have dough to buy a ballistics helmet get one of the many Soviet/Warsaw Pact steel helmets out there. You can get them for about $20-$40. Ballistics helmets are fucking expensive. I've found them to be at least $500 and as high as $1000.
Should you buy a helmet? Uh, do you want all the girls to think you're really cool? Of course you do, and of course you should! Girls think it's really neat. Especially if, the first time you have them over, you sneak off, put on full kit, and then come back out with full helmet, CBRN/NBC/MOPP gear, gas mask, III+ or above rated ballistic plates, mag pouch, bag, radio, carbine, sidearm in a drop-leg holster, boots and go "ISN'T THIS NEAT?!" when you pop out to show off all the cool stuff you have! (Assuming, of course, you're one of those people who has top shelf kit but never will actually use it 'cause they work a desk job and play computer games. If you're someone who, y'know, actually NEEDS a helmet professionally...that's a little different. Talking about us cool kid civilians here.)
throwing the like and the sub out there but holy shit man, was expecting a video where somebody knew what they were talking about but whats with all " oh well maybe its lighter" i just expected more of a certain review/ opinion. liked the video liked how you took notes and made sure to say the right information but i disliked that you weren't certain about your options. i get issued the ops core and this video left me more confused, should i rock a wendy, 3m, or an ops core. best of luck man.
I am intrested in getting a helmet Alas, trying to find one less than $1000.00 is a bear! anyone have good ideas? yea the Airsoft versions would work, but you would need to upgrade the suspension in them to make them at the minimum jumpable from an air craft, me thinks!! anyone have comment??
Liam Babington like Comrade Coolio stated, Hard Head Veterans sells a relatively cheap ballistic helmet for around $465. www.hardheadveterans.com/products/ballistic-helmet.
Just a question. Do all you TH-cam guys run or operate as a team? Not all together but as this content creator, do you have your group of guys that goes out to range, camping etc? I see all these guys using coms for some reason. Unless you’re in a group that uses them, has the same frequency and channels, with crypto enabled; coms are stupid (to me). Hand signals go along way and cost efficient. Just saying. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Yes, you should. At a minimum, a surplus steel helmet. Let me explain, the most common threat will be impact to the head from fists and blunt objects. See the riots inn the US. Even steel helmets can offer ballistic protection. Just get a pasgt helmet or ach if you have the money. Don't bother with FAST/bump helmets unless you must use gear for a reason! Also, even fast helmets do offer ballistic protection but you'll pay the $$$ for them.
Heck why would the Army need something like that anyways sure it would be great to have integrated comms and hearing protection but unless those can repel shrapnel your leaving vital areas open to injury that the PAGST/MICH/ACH can cover better. And Peltor does make underhelmet comms/hearing protection that is a bit cheaper.
I have some Peltor Comtac IIIs, which run about 700$ retail. If you keep your eye on some eBay listings, and you know what you're looking for, you can get them for ~400$ used, like I did. They even came with aftermarket gel padding, which was an excellent plus. However, you don't need to spend that much if you don't need it, or don't have it. I use the communication functions for my job, and if you don't need that, take a look at the Comtac "Defenders", which are the same without the comms. Much cheaper!
@@michaelhart8539 no need to flex their my man, ach's are better those,(didn't imply if they were ballistic or not lmao also carbon fiber isn't ballistic its just lightweight bro)
Body armor comes first cover your chest, back and sides of your vitals helmet come second. In a perfect world you get them both at the same exact time if money is an issue totally understand it be safe.
Helmet comes first mate. People knew that even since the middle ages.. A rock comes flying at you and you are hit in the chest, broken ribs maybe. That same rock strikes your head? You are dead. The human body can survive a great many bodily injuries. broken ribs, punctured lungs, stabbed organs, sodding limb loss... Your brain however, is far less resilient, and is entirely responsible for the other organs in your body to keep functioning. Yes, ideally you get protection for head and body at the same time. But if you can only choose one to start with. Get a helmet. People carry bricks, sticks and bike locks. Protect your brain, or get brained upside the skull.
I served in the US Army in the mid 90’s, back then we were issued “Kevlar” helmets. We were not issued body armor. If deployed, you could likely receive flak vests at the time to mitigate shrapnel from grenades, RPGs or mortar fire. Issued body armor for the whole didn’t become a thing until after GW sent troops back into harms way against terrorists and the like. So, even back then, they knew to protect the head so you can keep in the fight. (It was the negative/bad press that forced them to issue body armor to the troops as a whole. “Gotta Win the Hearts and Minds” of the people here, to continue getting money to fight over there....)
This guy has always been a civilian? Dude what are you doing I really hope they send you that shit because otherwise you are spending so much money on shit you don’t need to shoot
Alt_Knight most of the guys you see who have ops cores as civilians are prior military especially SF trust me this guy and airsoft assholes spend money on shit I PROMISE you they don’t need
Alt_Knight oh and so he needs peltors for home defense? To communicate with who his neighbor who is also running a full kit with comms and shit, yeah no.
I never said you need Peltors for home defense. I said that self defense goes beyond standing on a static range shooting at stationary targets. If you believe in having a firearm to be prepared for a defensive encounter, why don't you believe in body armor to be prepared for a defensive scenario? What about someone who is caught in a situation like the riots in Ferguson? The LA Riots of the '90s? Was there no need for body armor or a helmet then? What about someone who wants to do something more mundane, like doing a shoot house course or a 3 gun armored division? What if he has friends who also have similar setups and comms?
If you are in a place where you need a helmet your best bet is find a new location because you might win a battle but you wont win the war. Same with guns, there are great for hunting food but in a firefight you will be out of ammo in a few days and become a victim. Fighters will not survive, thinkers will.
It's true that anybody who is a lone wolf who gets caught up thinking like an assaulter will get freakin annihilated pretty easily. But if you think like a scout, where you engage only when necessary and then break contact then that's a different ballgame IMO. just by 2 cents
how about thinking like a fighter and a scout? If you fight like a assaulter you'll either die or run low on ammo but if you use the skills of a fighter and scout you can build up a cache of ammo and supplies and equipment from enemy platoons you defeat. If you choose the battlefield you will win.
I love your videos. I would love them more if you cut out the small talk in the beginning and got right to the point. Save the detailed review for a detailed review. If you're going to ask a question and answer it, I would very much prefer a video of 5 minutes of less.
@@TerryWhisk It was 30 years old by the time I got it . Served me well and protected my melon just fine thank you. Besides it had a myriad of other uses. You could use it as a wash bowl to shave with. Boil water in it. Make a cup of coffee. Wash your socks. Tote more grenades. Shovel out your sleeping hole. I could go on. I haven't quite seen a Kevlar do any of those things.
Not sure what any civilian who is not law enforcement, military, would need a ballistics helmet for outside of possibly airsoft and paintball, in which case you could get a replica one for cheap!

That is simply not true. Read here: www.atlanticsignal.com/pages/blog.html
Never said it cuts off radio comms. It still cuts off outside sound.
So Bryan - do you have a retailer source for the 3M helmets (that will sell to civilians)? I havent found one other than an online retailer whom I would rather not buy from... thanks...
kermit4161
Boatch? What's wrong with them?
@@joeanderson4850 Botach will take your money, but won't deliver a helmet.
Cannot find the 3m SF602SGAF-TAC glasses for sale anywhere. Anyone find them?
Let's all be honest for a second
The only reason 90% of us buy bump helmets is to look/feel cool
I know I'm in the international minority of your viewers, but it would be amazing if you could give metric measurements/weights in the future! Great stuff about the helmets and earpro - I've been using Peltor IIIs for 2 years now and I love em. Pretty much nothing better than Peltors on the market right now imo.
Wait, I'm going to be jumping out of a helicopter? Why didn't anyone tell me? This is going to be AWESOME!!!
Look into Walkers electronic ear plugs they are small, not mounted to the helmet, and won’t push around when getting a cheek weld on a weapon system
And can be had for a couple hundred bucks compared to some other options out there that can be as much as $1,200
Have you looked into the Ops Core Amps yet?
What’s the best option for someone with a LARGE cranium?
Zn 333 please, who is they?... I’ll check it out.
Zn 333 that would work
an ach is great brother, just replace the pads, chin strap and add a nvg shroud a multicam cover in what ever size you got it in and add side rails that conform to the "ears' of the helmet, you could add lights, strobes and ir reflectors and if you have enough money get some night vision goggles like pvs 14's (night vision goggles= nvg)
Without a helmet a vato with a hammer will jam u up,a slip while running or scrambling will crack your egg .
For the price the 3m securefit eyewear line is pretty awesome. Saw the clear securefit 600 on Amazon for $15. Got the securefit 400 pack of 3 for $15.
Do you still have your FJ? If so have you made any other improvements?
Let's walk about an Ops-Core helmet with Ops-Core coms; $3k??? I can buy at least four to six sets of level 3A plates with carriers for that price. Obviously the helmets of every brand are EXTREMELY over priced. There is no reason why helmets can't cost the consumer between $500 to $800. The Wilcox G24 mount is about $600. How many people do you think can actually afford this shit? Why not make a video about equipment "normal" people can actually use.
Got myself a mich. Not the best but there's no excuse these days. Got mine for free cause I know people, but they are very budget friendly
Which radio and PTT system do you use to connect to your Peltors?
Great info/great vid as usual. Thanks ITS!
The cord between the 2 run the back rim of the helmet
I like the 3M eyepro too but the arms broke after 3 weeks in my range bag.
For Motorcycle helmets you have to replace them every 5 years. Is there anything like that with these?
Can u teat out MILITECH helmets plz ? It's one of the cheapest ones I could find but I see no reviews on TH-cam
Probably cheapest because it’s a piece of shit. Don’t trust personal protection to Chinese armor
Who has the best selection and helmet pricing online?
Thoughts on the new gen of rifle rated helmets like the ECH?
The PC police are already freaking out about your intro. I love it
Great info, thank you!
throwing the like and the sub out there but holy shit man, was expecting a video where somebody knew what they were talking about but whats with all " oh well maybe its lighter" i just expected more of a certain review/ opinion. liked the video liked how you took notes and made sure to say the right information but i disliked that you weren't certain about your options. i get issued the ops core and this video left me more confused, should i rock a wendy, 3m, or an ops core. best of luck man.
Hard Headed Veterans seems to be promising. Looks similar enough to a 3m helmet and has better protection than Ops Core.
Top tier opening joke. I rewound about five times :)
GREAT INTRO!!!
What it all boils down to is how important your brain is to you. To put things in perspective, your brain controls pretty much your whole body.
Let’s talk about the older helmets to if that’s all you have .
@@miriammariarojaslopez1276 I have a surplus US Gi kevlar and East German steel. Pasgt first, steel last.
The intro was great! Lol
That opening line...savage
$700.oo + for earpro??? OUCH!
This gets a like just for the opening sequence😂
I do not think your 3m light weight bump helmets are available to the public
Yea we all like a little extra length
Best patch ever!
couldn't watch tis video with out grabbing my MICH 2001
bvanharen and my Ops Core Maritime...and my Team Wendy carbon..in multicam black 🤟🏼
@@michaelhart8539 no need to flex their my man, ach's are better those,(didn't imply if they were ballistic or not lmao also carbon fiber isn't ballistic its just lightweight bro)
honestly no; just be a spec ops marine navy seal and just wear a ballcap.
I want a clean ass helmet like the thumbnail
I too like the extra 8 inches...
those prostate exams man
"Exams"
Stay focused!!!!!!
I had to watch the intro at least 5 times. That was hilarious
Got a Schuberth Kevlar and some old eastern block steels.
Single handed lay best into on the interwebz
This guy has always been a civilian? Dude what are you doing I really hope they send you that shit because otherwise you are spending so much money on shit you don’t need to shoot
Self defense goes beyond shooting.
Alt_Knight uh yeah trust me you don’t need an ops core for home defense
Did you know Condor is made in China and NcStar has the same vests for half the price and there made in the USA
If you are in a place where you need a helmet your best bet is find a new location because you might win a battle but you wont win the war. Same with guns, there are great for hunting food but in a firefight you will be out of ammo in a few days and become a victim. Fighters will not survive, thinkers will.
Steve S It's amazing how well you have all this stuff figured out. Maybe teach some classes or something....
Plan to live dont plan to fight. Thats all you need to know.,
It's true that anybody who is a lone wolf who gets caught up thinking like an assaulter will get freakin annihilated pretty easily.
Steve S this is true. Even operators attest to this saying.

I love your videos. I would love them more if you cut out the small talk in the beginning and got right to the point. Save the detailed review for a detailed review. If you're going to ask a question and answer it, I would very much prefer a video of 5 minutes of less.
Have you tried Earbuds ? tjl
Give me my steel pot & liner I wore for 6 years in the 70s.
Why would you willing use safety gear that’s over 50 years old? Sounds like you don’t value your health all that much
@@TerryWhisk It was 30 years old by the time I got it .
Dude, focus on the gear and quit stuttering and stammering. Just get to it. Damn!!!
Not sure what any civilian who is not law enforcement, military, would need a ballistics helmet for outside of possibly airsoft and paintball, in which case you could get a replica one for cheap!
He gives some examples in the video.
Oh I don't know... ever heard of "Charlottesville violence in Virginia"?
AKM5.45 SHOOTER I actually was deployed to New Orleans for Katrina. I never wore a ballistics helmet and I was out there helping secure the area in an official capacity.
Robbie CaptMilkbone Baxter Sure did...also did not see anyone wearing ballistics helmets! Wearing one would not have changed anything that happened that day!
If you watch the Charlottesville protest video you WILL see Plate carriers and helmet's being worn by non-LEO people who attended. Once you have been hit in the head with a hard glass bottle you will start using a helmet. It happened to me... RIOTS are no fun :-( Just trying to get family, leave the area and go home. FYI to be clear We were in Miami when this happened to me, NOT Virginia.
Helmet ? What for ??? When they will send you for a war, they will give you one ....
lostinspace013 a kevlar helmet... protects the dome but it's have and jacks with your hearing/ambient input..
Unless you’re military or law enforcement why do you need this stuff?
because of the military and law enforcement
