Used to swim in derby baths every single day. Swam my first mile there at the age of 6 and went off the highest diving board with the help of a push from my brother. Xx

I used to swim there most days with the swimming club members in the 50s and 60s.

We used to go on coach trips to Blackpool in the 70s , we loved swimming in Derby Road baths . The water was salty but we had hours of fun and going on the diving boards , those were the days. ❤

I used to swim regularly there in the 70's with my friends. We used to drop our metal locker discs in the deep end so that we had to swim down to retrieve them. The water pressure at the bottom used to feel like someone was pinching really tightly on the bridge of your nose. I'll also never forget the feeling of the knot in my stomach, the first time I went off the top diving board. When that whistle blew to clear the deep end, I said to myself "no turning back now" and I went for it. Happy days!

This is sad for me. I didn't realise the baths were demolished! Went here in the early seventies when my family used to stay with my Granny in Cleveleys. :-(
    Thanks for posting anyhow.

It was lovely to see the baths again and as it was in it's prime. Criminal it was not replaced with another Olympic size pool .

There was a learner pool in the basement and I had a few swimming lessons there with Mr. B.

Anyone else remember the cafe underneath with windows into the pool? You could see each other messing about, and the guy used to blow a whistle if someone wanted to dive off the top board :)

I used to go there from 1971. I remember only the top Cafe. Do you mean the steps to the basement from the changing rooms lead to a Cafe? I remember noone dared to go down there! Was it literally below the water line at the deep end? We used to dive down and try to look into those windows but always dark.

Every time my dad drove past the baths he would tell me that the guy who played tarzan used to swim in there ⚡ Johnny Wiezmuller or something like that 😎

I only went to the Derby Baths very occasionally in the 60s as a child, but I have a vague recollection the water was salty.

Another example of council vandalism. Seems like part of long term strategy to destroy all the best features of the town.
    Progress you say?

Learned to swim there in a training pool separate from the main baths. The big mistake with the Derby baths was the salt water. It made my eyes sting after a short while in there. But happy days going with my dad and his work mates on a Saturday morning.

No one has mentioned why it got knocked down ,council deliberately didn't keep up with maintenance so it became dangerous .The council knocked it down and hoped they could sell the land and pay themselves the proceeds.....it failed because the land didnt belong to them .

I live further down on Warley Road, would love this to be still standing. For a time in early 2000s there was a kids park there, its where I met my wife, but then even that was removed, very sad!
