Moving blankets from Harbor Freight are great for protecting the bike, and the back of your car when you load, and transport it. My wife just uses flat pedals, so I bought some quick release ones for her bike. They are a game changer for loading and unloading. Much easier, since that is a wide part of the bike, and the pedals tend to catch on things when you are moving the bike in and out of the car.
I've using the first method for years. I have a blanket covering the back seats. I use a blanket to cover the bike when traveling long distances to conceal it when stopped for road stops/breaks.
Great tips! Since I drive a sedan and can't fit the full bike in the trunk (by far the easiest method), I use the first method. One thing I like to do is to place some cardboard or towel on the seat and central tunnel to avoid the bike damaging or getting these parts dirty.

Remove the saddle together with the seat post. Remove the front wheel. Put the bike into the car in an upright position with the rear side first. Lean it slightly to the left side of the trunk. Close the lid. Enter the driver seat. Start the engine. Drive to destination. Follow steps in a reverse order. Done.
It would help it fit easier, but removing the saddle and seat post does introduce a slightly more complicated step for most people, and if you have a carbon bike, that means you’re also going to have to bring a torque wrench to retorque
I always try to buy a hatchback car and I currently have a Kia forte five and I just put the whole bike in the backseat put the backseats down takeoff the back hatch cover put the bike in. We’re good to go. No need to disassemble bikes. I also go surfing and if I have to put a surfboard in the car, and make sure the passenger seat in the front collapses down and reclines and then I fold the backseat over the front seat kind of like an overlapping configuration and that the front seat actually reclines all the way down to a reasonable degree and that’s it no need to fuss with anything else

I have an estate (and always carry bikes in the load area with seats down or with a Dahon Cadenza, the seats can stay up. There are more issues carrying bikes on racks, like falling off, collision, and theft! Also here in the UK, the bike on the tailgate rack must not obstruct the lights and licence plate! This requires a light and plate board. Search for thief tries to steal bike from moving car.
Good points! I’ve had friends have the bike fall off (on highway), and also heard of theft issues too. I’ve also had it where it rains while bike is on rack, and bike gets super dirty/waterlogged. Inside the car my preference 👌
I often carry 2 bikes in the back of my hatchback car, with seats down and an old blanket between them, to protect bikes and prevent annoying rattling noise whilst driving. Much safer than having bikes attached on the outside of the car.
There's a fourth way to carry a bike in that car, if you don't mind a little modification. With a fork mount secured inside near the tailgate you can stand the bike up. You just need to take off the front wheel and saddle. I've actually put two large sized bikes in simultaneously.

I never did like trailer hitch mounted bike racks, the beat the bike up too much.
I've always put my bikes in the back of my car. BMW 440i, rear seats down. Tarp on the trunk floor regardless of how clean the bike is. I can fit my Canyon Ultimate or Aeroad in the back without having to remove any wheels. I can fit also two bikes in, same as above but remove the front wheel so the fork can be rotated sideways. Place a tarp over the bike, an old duvet on that (protects frame etc.), another tarp on that and then the 2nd bike on top (put them in top n' tail style) with it's front wheel also removed (store the wheels carefully to avoid scratching or pressure) Oh and I agree, the wax method is MUCH better than chain lube. Cleaner and no risk of any kind of oil getting on the car. Not sure about the first method you showed though... Would never go for that one even with a clean bike. Risk of scratching up the leather is too high. Ps I wouldn't remove the brake spacer thing before removing a bike as you suggested in the first example... Do that only when ready to fit the wheel.

i combine methods 2 and 3. fold cars second row seats, take out bikes both wheels, place bike laying down deraillieurs up, i place a towel on top of the bike then place the wheels on top away from the deraillieurs. my road bike has rimbrakes and car is really small.
Gears away from seats to help with this, cover for seats for extra protection. But like I mentioned in the video with waxed chain (like mine is), it’s much cleaner and doesn’t have oil risk for seats

Thanks! So it may be possible if you lie them on top of each other, but you’d want to put a blanket or padding between them. To help, place the bikes in opposite directions so the handlebars (widest part) are on opposite sides
I mainly ride road, so my bike usually isn’t too dirty after riding. But ya, a seat cover or tarp is not a bad idea, maybe one of those pet covers or something?
I got a trunk rack for my sedan and the front tire totally scratched my number. Now I put the back seats down and load the bike from the trunk with the tires off.

Scratching the cars plastic interior is not helping resell values. Buy a small cargo van, and then slap your coveted VW decal over top of the vans actual manufactures nameplate.
