The incident of American Airlines Flight 1420 is truly haunting because of one crucial detail: the pilots forgot to arm the spoilers, a system that helps the plane slow down during landing. In the chaos and extreme pressure of the moment, small mistakes turned into a major disaster. The cockpit voice recordings reveal the confusion as the pilots struggled with strong crosswinds and low visibility. It’s a sobering reminder of how time pressure and rushed decisions in emergencies can have devastating consequences.
