I just happened upon this video, and story one is about my Great Aunt. Her coffin was the one found in the field. She lived in Milwaukee WI, but her family was from Buffalo. I thought the leg out of the casket was added for drama, but it was true. I asked my mom and at 92, she said it was. Whoa! God Bless Auntie Edith.

And they probably can't be fired for it due to pilot union protections. The McDonnell Douglas executives that knew about the cargo door issue as early as during development should have gone to jail for negligent homicide. I was on an old DC 9 from Denver to Grand Island Nebraska. Shortly after takeoff I complained to the lady next to me that these old planes are the ones that have problems. A second later there was a loud boom and drop in air pressure. Captain said the cargo door had popped and we were returning to Denver where we landed safely, deboarded and then were reboarded to another plane. Now I know what a big issue it was back then. So it's beyond disturbing and frustrating that because of greed and the corporate culture, so many people had to die in these planes and the DC-10 got such a terrible reputation, that really it didn't deserve. Profit based decisions by the executive of McDonnell Douglas is to blame, not the plane itself. I've flown on them many many times, spoken to pilots and even once flew in the jump seat of one. Every pilot I asked, had nothing but good things to say about the DC-10 and how great it was to fly.

Don't fall for the 'conspiracy' theory here. The FAA isn't the bad guy, and 'they' are not on the take. When AA 191 went down in Chicago, the FAA mandated grounding of the birds until there was a full scale review and investigation of the mechanical and administrative processes involved plus the inspection of ALL DC-10's for similar issues. The AIRLINE was tagged as their practices were at fault. The design had other issues that were not imagined when the design was drawn, such as running hydraulic lines through the same area, which contributed to the disaster when the third engine in the tail blew up. Respect the experts - they are not being 'bought' by 'big money'.

I was old enough to remember all the controversy over it and I even believe it was grounded for a while. It had a reputation and people would avoid flying in them. It was like they did all the troubleshooting after it was in production instead of working out the problems during its testing phase. They just wanted to get it out there ahead of everyone else. The Lockheed L1011 Tristar was so much better of an aircraft if only it wasn't delayed. Does anyone see a pattern here?? Unless you've actually experienced it already, this is one of those times where you can't say " I can only imagine what it must have been like".
It must be so life changing to see something like that, never seeing it before.
Then you see a teddy bear, and realize, there are children mixed with what Im walking on..

I'm not sure what difference that should make in itself, but I did hear of a car wreck in the 50s where everyone got carted off and a guy found a baby bottle jammed in the door frame.
Several guys picked up the car and found a dead baby. This was before seat belts/car seats.
It was in a doc about gory highway safety films to make teens safe drivers: "Hell's Highway."

BRACE FOR IMPACT! My guy clenches every time I hear that, even in these re-enactments.

The actor portraying the Turkish captain looks like the same actor that portrayed Ramzi Yousef in the episode Bomb on Board...Sam Kalilieh.

Dead body got out of the coffin, kicked down the door, and escaped like damn DB Cooper. This is getting out of hand

Rudder Hardover should have been solved long ago. An emergency disconnect to allow the surface to freesail streamline.

Hard to believe (as the video claims) that such engines can withstand continuous bombardment with baseball size hail.
    (The Southern DC 9 incident)
Did the sound of hail impacting the fuselage/windscreen prevent the crew from hearing the sounds of compressor stall? (Understand that with compressor stall the engine(s) is more likely not to suffer further damage if power is reduced)
