That was beautiful! Too bad the big boy play at 4:42 didn't work, otherwise it would've been flawless. Congrats nonetheless man! This really has been a treat for the eyes
I do this too. Not as successfully, as I get hit more while trying to do this, but still. I hate HH players who queue up buffs, then walk away to buff from a distance... So much wasted damage and stun potential. (R2 attack has the highest stun damage out of all attacks) Maybe because true HH mains are way too rare. And most of the HH players you see just use it for a bit for fun/variation.
@@Sanquinity you hate players who queued up the songs in the monster's face, then took a few rolls to find a safe spot still relatively close to the monster, to rebuff? Sorry dude, you're alone on that one.. before Iceborne's echo attack, this was the hardest thing to get right with this weapon and if someone goes into a Group, if they don't feel like they're that much of an Expert HH user? They should Absolutely take a short distance away from the monster or behind it and use those "precious" seconds to cast a performance and then an encore for a very quick rebuff of 2-3 songs. They should try to master their weapon more all the time ofc, but they shouldn't take stupid risks for "cool dude internet points" when they're in really bad spots.
I main HH and yea it's still an underrated weapon. Sure the weapon isn't as good as other weapons at one particular thing, but you bring so much to a fight. KO's when hitting the head, a huge variety of buffs to choose from, not top damage but still great damage, pretty decent damage numbers for those who like big numbers, and limitless healing if you take a healing horn. The only real disadvantages of the HH are the lacking defensive options (you can only dodge roll) and having to be fairly committed to your attacks as they can take a bit long to complete. (though not as bad as the GS and SA for instance) Luckily with the new buffs left on the ground, high damage twirl attack, 2 extra songs for all horns, and the awesome grappling hook attack the weapon has indeed become a bit more popular. But somehow it's still all the way at the bottom.
What am I doing wrong...why can't I be good with this weapon? I love to see HH gameplay, it's so satisfying and beautiful to use. I watched all of Griffed's guides and learned all the little tricks and combos you can do but I still get trashed by every master rank monster and my killtimes are doubble as long than with CB or LS :'( What am I doing wrong?
Don't lose hope! Also, some weapons are just better than others and there is nothing we can do about it. LS and CB, for example, are out of our reach. However, this doesn't mean that you can't get good times for your weapon class. Keep practicing and watching good HH gameplay. It will help you for sure :)
Hey ! If you're on Xbox I'd love to help. I'm by no means as good as these guys but I use their videos to correct a lot of my mistakes on positioning and what moves to use when, etc etc. A large portion of it is learning through repetition! Either way as he said don't lose hope! Start with a basic monster like low rank rathian and fight that monster over and over until you know it like the back of your hand and you'll gain better confidence / understanding to how top tier players like grifted get where they are :)
@@Doos What also helps is being an expert dodger. As it saves time on being knocked down, and lets you stay close to the monster at all times. I'd never be able to dodge attacks like you, unless I slotted some evade window skills. That, and knowing the monster's movements by heart helps a lot too. I saw how you moved exactly to where you knew the monster would be after it's attacks to attack it right away a few times.
Hey deus. Just wanted to confirm if you can read this. Are you able to bait his big jumping spin attack by mostly staying on his left? Or were you just positioning yourself there and waiting for him to do it?
Ebony Odogaron starts the fight in a frenzy mode where its attacks have dragon element. The monster is also more erratic, which makes it harder to fight. However, if you deal enough elemental damage on its head, you can break it and knock it out of said state. It doesn't need to be ice specifically, the others can work. I went with Velkhana because it's the strongest AuxL HH with some element. After the head is broken, ebony odogaron becomes easier to deal with. Predictable combos and you'll deal more damage .
@@Doos How do you figure that it has to be ele damage to break his head in order to calm him down? Does the ingame hunter notebook has this info or did the community found out by themselves?
I'm new to the HH too. I suggest you start with a support build and from there get used to this weapon. Among all the weapons I feel like this is the one that requires more practice and time to master but the results (as you can see in this video) are worth the time. Once you'll feel comfortable enough start using a build more DPS oriented!
Griffted has made a lot of useful videos about the mechanics of HH. Also I suggest you to not start with a support build because your damage will be absolute shit, playing songs in the corner won't help you learning how to properly fight and playing aggressively with a full support build won't make you feel rewarded after a hunt.
@@dade97asd96 griffted 40minute video right? I didnt watch because it was 5 month a go if not mistaken. Since i craft first hh at iceborne, i thought it will not taught me anything.
@@SoulAL13 It is still really good to understand the basics. The skill will come practicing. I'm starting now, after 2 month, to be a little decent so it takes a lot of practice

con someone please explain to me how he has purple sharpness? I have the same horn and it has fairly small white sharpness I'm still kinda new to the game just beat iceborn main story
There is a skill that's called handicraft and raises the amount of sharpness your weapon has. Some weapons do have access to purple sharpness this way. Velkhana's HH is one of them and will require said skill. You can see at 5:33 when I show the skills that I have 1 pt of handicraft. The more you invest into the skill, the more you'll get !
@@Doos ok yea I did see that I just didn't know that 1 point would get you to purple with this weapon didn't look like it when I was about to use 1 point of it.
For this monster, you are better off using water. The best HH for this fight is the laguna HH. Ice is a bit underwhelming, so I went more on the raw side. Just to clarify, the element works well with the Echo Attack specifically (spin2win). I'm assuming that's what you meant by echo notes ? It's better on a crit element set but it has to be the main weakness (so in this case, water).
@UCJ1okbLe3OYs1FfioPjt4JA Yes and no. It's worth IF the HH has a lot of elemental and AuxL. The non AuxL and AuL Horns can't compensate the raw they lack without it. For now, laguna is the certified good one. I have yet to see if the other ones can be competitive. Raw is the way to go in general (as the top horn Acidic HH proves it) but in the future, we may see ele HH becoming better.
@@Doos Alright, thanks! I have been using the Laguna a lot since the raw value is similar to other HHs at the level I am. I'll keep that in mind for other horns.
The reason I used the claw three times before engaging is because this is a guaranteed way to enrage the monster. This is very good if you are using the skill agitator. Most of the time, enraged monsters take more damage from your attacks so there is that as well.
Knowing that breaking the head was only possible with elemental, I decided to go for Velkhana. Jho's HH negative affinity was too much to deal with. Btw, I now have a faster run on this monster with the Laguna HH (water one). It's the best horn for this matchup hands down.
AmaDEUS_225 I didn’t know you could only break the head with elemental that’s crazy I play a lot of hunting Horn and I honestly idolize you as a player you are insane there is only one other person I think could come close
