For a moment everyone in the city drops what they're doing and becomes excited like school kids with their eyes glued to the sky, trying to figure out where the sound is coming from.
It was even more confusing when they did their practice runs the day before 😂 Same effect though, hundreds of people standing still in the CBD, eyes glued to the sky

Without doubt, The Best Aviation Photography I have seen in all my viewing life Joel and I grew up at RAAF Amberley lol, the naked eye had no chance from ground level. Fantastic mate 💯
It was an amaizing site when tripple M put on the Brisbane sky show in the days of the F1 11 with after burner to open and close the show. MAN THAT WAS AWESOME
Was just shooting hand held with a Panasonic GH5 with a Canon 24-105L up front...and just gave it my best crack at keeping it in frame haha. The trickiest part was as it banked overhead!
this reminds me of when an F/A18A did a circuit over GAF and CAC in Port Melbourne and was below the level of the top of the pylons on the West Gated Bridge. It was a fantastic reward for the people who helped build them. the pilot evidently told ATC that he was taking no notice of them but acknowledged their concern.
I did my apprenticeship at ARL, and we went to Avalon to see one the first FA-18’s give a demonstration to all the workers and government officials. Great show it put on.

Considering the RAAF base, RAAF Base Amberley is willing to contribute their services giving us the display we get every year I think we should be very grateful to the base as well as 1 Squadron (F/A-18F) 6 Squadron (EA-18G) and 36 Squadron(C-17) who give us some of the best displays during Riverfire.
I watches the F-18 Super Hornet at Karup in Denmark somewhat 6 years ago, and it´s an amazing performer. And creates a fantastisc amount of noise :-) It´s outperformed by lenghts by the F-22 though. But I dont think they´ve ever done any airshows outside the US.

Its difficult to tell them apart from the Growlers, for the life of me I cant even find consistent photos of the two planes in a search to tell which is which.
@@kitdesilva Wouldn’t give you much of a better display. Their strengths are radar, stealth and electronic systems, not so much aeronautics. They expect the fight to be over before they see the enemy. I don’t know for sure but I’d imagine a Super Hornet would out turn it.
That is water condensing due to low air pressure around the wings. Looks great in some of those shots. Wonder how those stills from the camera turned out. Nice lens he was using. Zoom adjustments would have to be fast.
5:58 A perfect shot to illustrate just how fast these jets can be "On your ass." You wouldn't think a jet that size could sneak up on anything. Incredible.
@@lachychops2 @Lizard Man 100%, if that jet is flying low through terrain and supersonic it would be on you so fast. It was a cut shot like you say but coming up from low like that is my point more than where the shot begins and ends.
@@kylecameron9772 Actually with a full weapons load at sea level the FA18 isn't able to reach supersonic according to the level flight envelope charts in the flight manual. 15k feet is the minimum to hit supersonic with a full weapons load out. Also at best it can only have its afterburners lit for 12 minutes at 36k feet before it empties it's tanks so you can get something like 390km max range at full tilt

It would definitely scare people but most people would be aware about these events in the lead up, local information online and on the news as well as over the years everybody who lives in the area would have an idea this happens in the lead up.
They've practised this event in the simulators and will usually practice a high show so away from people somewhere west of Amberley and up high to perfect their timing speed and approaches, to make sure everything is done correctly and complies with safety.
They did afterburner in F-111 jets. They should be doing afterburner with the F-18 as well. When the F-35 takes over there'll be no afterburner as the F-35 can't do that
Much rather this than fireworks. I wish more cities would do this!! Allow the public to admire and wonder in the spectacle of these glorious angels that grace the skies thanks in part to our tax contributions.

Lived there in 2005. The F111 did a dump and burn over the Story Bridge. Awesome.

Ten out of ten for some fantastic follows. High energy aircraft are not easy to hold in frame. What camera support were you using?

and I was there in Brisbane downtown at that time

Love the super hornet it's such a beautiful looking and sounding plane.
It's a great machine, and performs well in the hands of 1 SQN.
