Hi Ricky, great video and well said. The first few minutes alone are worth the price of admission and should probably be required viewing for anyone ever involved in a Superman Movie. Every modern writer seems to think Superman is impossible to write and nothing could be further from the truth. Truth, Justice, Humanity, and everything that goes with it. Hopefully these early teasers are an obnoxious attempt at a feint and we'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding my breath. Cheers - Dan.
I wish the first promotion image was Superman helping an old lady cross the street, or changing a flat tire for a pregnant woman, or saving a cat stuck in tree. It doesn’t matter if he is saving the planet from an alien invasion or helping a person that has little to no stakes, his smile remains the same. They 1) didn’t need to raise the stakes in the promotion image and 2) make him not care about what is happening around him. I knew you would rip this image apart. If WB doesn’t get Superman right, the whole Gunn universe will most likely fail
Great video! Henri Cavill looks the part but the darker/Jesus stuff seemed off to me. Gunn please watch this! I think what defines Spider-Man more is his friendly neighborhood roots and actions (his costume/mask is not the best, agreed. Lol). Saving a cat, helping underdogs kids win a football game, visiting and inspiring a young child that is dying, taking on an impossible foe like Juggernaut to save his city, find good in the worse of foes, etc. Raimi movies understood this. Solid analysis. I am trusting James Gunn to "get" Superman, but someone in PR did drop the ball with the released image. There are so many stories they could pull from (All-Star, Superman for All Seasons, etc.), and I am hopeful that this new iteration of Superman is the launching point to new DCU movies that are fun.
I want nothing more than for James Gunn to see this video before it's too late! This applies to much more than comic book movies, but it always amazes me when we see adaptations of things and the people doing the adaptation fundamentally don't understand (or care?) what made the original work so loved in the first place. Great video as always :)
