Most celebrities I’ve met at cons have been mostly positive. Only one that was a little off was Jonathan Frakes, but was absolutely fine compared to your friends with McDowell. That’s just awful. On a better note, fun video, I vote for a part 2 in the future!

Don’t feel like you didn’t act like a hero in this case because you didn’t confront McDowell. You and your friend removed his wife from the situation, provided immediate protection, and consolation. This is far more indicative of a “real man”. When something likes this happens, it takes awhile to process.

Thanks for sharing. I had the experience you described re meeting Stan Lee and have a photo where he has his trademark smile (grimace? 😂) - I just remember being so in awe I mumbled something like ‘it’s an honour to meet you’ (which it was) before my 5 seconds were up. With regards to your story of meeting MM he definitely deserves the dog kicker status that’s disgusting behaviour. And clearly it’s still emotive for you to retell even after 20 years partly I guess because you’re still shocked it happened and partly due to your inaction at the time. But when you’re in the moment it’s so difficult to make the right call all you can do is tell yourself you’ll act differently should a similar situation ever arise again. We’ve all had moments we look back on in our lives and think how we could / should have acted.

i have only met one celebrity, Jeff Kinney writer of diary of a wimpy kid. I gotta be honest it was disappointing. it was a line where we had to stay in our cars and when i got to meet him all he said was hello, and a book for the kiddo (me) and we had masks on because of covid and I barely even saw his face. i think if it was not in a car without masks it would have been better.
Edit: it was also 11:00pm because the meet and greet started at 9:30pm

As I watch this, earlier today I bought Never Sleep Again, a Bluray documentary about the filming of the Nightmare on elm street series. It was signed by the directors and Heather Langencamp. Sorry to hear about that last story. Most people would have reacted the same way. At the end of it all everyone has to account to their maker. 🙏🏻

One of the reasons I am afraid to meet my heroes. You broke that down well, Ricky. Thank you for sharing! I understand that feeling of living with regret after a moment like that and you aren’t alone. We can only move forward with what we’ve learned and hopefully our experience will help us make decisions we are more proud of in the future.

I wish more celebrities would comment on my wife's engagement ring, jeez 😂

Interesting video different from your usual. I'd be down for hearing about more good experiences you've had and why you stood in line to meet that particular person. I've met many celebrities at Cons and Clubs/restaurants when I was younger chasing a dream in LA. Eventually like you said you get over the awkwardness and just realize they are just people. One note I think with current events making a remark about " gaza strip" seems problematic.

You’d make it into my Dog Kisser tier Ricky! Appreciate you sharing your experiences, good and bad. I can second the description of voice actors being awesome. When I met Bryce Papenbrook, (Eren Yaeger) he was offering to say any iconic lines from his work, do poses and just talk about anything. Everyone leaving his booth couldn’t stop raving about it and it seemed like that for most voice actor booths like that.
Obviously, it’s terrible to hear what happened to your friend, and even how it’s still has some lasting effects to this day. But at the end of the day that POS will have to own that in this life or the next one.

Thanks for telling us your experiences Ricky. I know that last one was tough to talk about. It sounded like it was a no win situation, if you flip out and put hands on him most likely you get kicked out and possibly charges pressed or you did what you guys did and feel bad about it til this day. Sorry your friend had to go through that. Take care my friend. 👊🏼

Not people I've met IRL, but just before he passed away Warren magazine artist and Swamp Thing co creator, Bernie Wrightson, used to frequent some of the Warren magazine fan groups fairly regularly. There's a reason he became known as 'our man Bernie', because he was just such a genuinely gracious, humble and appreciative person to talk to. I've also very briefly spoken to Maestros Enric and Sanjulian online, and they both seem really nice as well (very nice and very humble). From what I've heard from others James Warren and Trina Robbins are also both genuinely lovely people to meet, honestly haven't heard a bad word said about either of them. Juana De Haro (Vampi's original muse) is also on Facebook and seems like a nice lady from her posts.

Last story was tough to hear, but thanks for sharing. I might have been at that same show at FaxExpo in Toronto. I remember the line up for fans waiting to see Stan Lee was something else. It felt like he came to Toronto several years in a row for FanExpo, and in one of the earlier years, there was a special VIP package where you could hang out with him at a bar afterwards. My friend said he was amazing and he's got a picture of Stan signing someone's butt. Can't remember if it was a girl or a guy.

I’d say most of my experiences were good. No Dog Kickers, but a couple of likely “bad day” types. William Shatner and Stan Lee. I’d love to see a video on your other experiences. Just met Sid Kroft, Erick Estrada & Larry Wilcox at Wondercon in Anaheim last Saturday and they were all “dog kisser” experiences.

In the comic realm, I met Alex Ross at my local LCS of all places(he was shopping and kinda looking around). He was so great with everyone in the store and he stayed around to talk comics with anyone. Kept everyone involved … Had nice experiences with Mark Waid at a con.. think his handlers were getting upset with him bc he was signing everything and not wanting to take anything for it.

My top 3 celebrities I've met were Katee Sackhoff, James Marsters, Mick Foley and Elijah Wood all incredibly nice and truly took time to talk and interact with me. Worst would be Brendan Fraser (was just in out and barely acknowledged) and Ric Flair (seemed like his fans were a burden and pain). My wife says to add Matthew Lillard as amazing he stayed late and took pics at no extra cost.

Bro, your videos are always good. I would have never of thought I would watch it all the way through…I did it and I loved it and watched a few more that I hadn’t seen. You are phenomenal at this. Your quick growth (by comic you tuber standards) is well deserved and I love that you are a genre bender in a great way! I bet you are a dog kisser !

Loved the video. It made me think about the celebs that I have met. Most disappointing Devo meet and greet where I mentioned when/where I had first seen them live and got the response "I remember that as if it was yesterday." in a sarcastic tone that felt as rude as possible, best Penn and Teller where they invited anybody to meet them after their Las Vegas show: got pics and signed DVD, very friendly conversation. Emo Phillips (comedian) is another top celeb. He recorded an answering message on my nephew's phone. I think after the shock of what happened I would have burnt the photo of Malcolm McDowell.

It feels weird to just drop some celebrity stories here given how your video ended, but...
My favourite celebrity encounter was with Wayne Gretzky....Wayne Gretzky's dad. I went to a hockey game and he happened to be seated right in front of me. I was about to ask him if I could take a picture with him and someone else got to him first. He told them that he didn't want to be a distraction while the game was on, but between periods he'd take pictures, sign autographs - whatever people wanted. When the first period was over, he stood up and said to no one in particular "Ok, we've got 15 minutes to get to know each other" and group formed around him. He took dozens of pictures, signed autographs, told stories, cracked jokes...he was just the kindest most gentle man ever. Total dog kisser.
My friend has two of the best encounters ever. She was in line at a Bruce Campbell signing and right when it was about to be her turn, Bruce said "I'm bored! Let's have some fun and make a prank call!" She was next in line so she went up to him and asked him to prank her boyfriend. He asked her about him and she told him that they were in a band together and had been shopping their demo. So he called her boyfriend, said that he was a record executive from one of the labels that they submitted to and then told him how terrible he thought their demo was ha! He went on and on about how it was garbage, the worst thing he'd ever heard etc.
The same girl, years later was working at a recording studio. She went outside to have a smoke and standing in the parking lot holding a smoke without a light was Bono from U2 (he was there recording some voice-over stuff for the Hurricane Katrina fundraiser). He saw her and asked her for a light. The two of them stood there in awkward silence smoking their cigarettes until Bono said "If you want to come to the show tonight, I can put you on the guestlist...nothing weird, just as a thank-you" to which my friend meant to say "I'd love to, and I really appreciate the offer, but I'm sorry I can't, I'm working and have deadlines..." but the only words that came out of her mouth were "no thanks" ha!

Holy shit that's disappointing on the last one mentioned. Dude's been in some of my favourite films, always had a lot of respect for him as an actor, but any respect I might have had for him as a person has just flown out the window. No excuses for that sort of behaviour, honestly I would've had trouble not just going him right then and there if he did that to my partner.

Stan Lee was empathic? Wow. How empathic was he toward Jack Kirby and many of the other actual creatives who did so much that Lee took credit for? Ugh. Don’t even. I guess you don’t mind someone who kicks human beings.

I know it's easier said than done as well, but don't feel bad about the way you reacted to that last situation. In all honesty I am the sort of person who reacts first and thinks later, especially when it comes to my friends, and that's not always a good thing. I know I've made some situations worse by getting all up on my high horse about something, instead of actually asking the person in question how they feel, and what they want. It sounds like you guys all tried to be there for the friend as much as you could, and that's what should matter.

Hi Ricky, I’m very sorry this happened to your friend.
Long story short, 1 week before I started high school, my 11 month old little brother was diagnosed with cancer. Everyone in my family, they rotated, slept in the hospital. Joseph was never alone. I spent 1 day. He’s alive and well now. I look back and reflect on how much of a coward I was.
Don’t let this asshole celebrate behavior tear you up inside. Don’t let your past self dictate your present or future self.

Off topic, but just got some sad news. The woman sometimes lovingly known as Vampirella's mother, Trina Robbins, has passed away at the age of 85. Trina was the woman who helped bring Vampirella's costume concept to life when she sketched the first ever picture of Vampi in her iconic red costume and got immediate approval from James Warren. She then went on to describe the costume design to Frank Frazetta, who at the time was struggling to conceptualise it, and the rest is history. Massive loss for the comic community. :(
