This Man is amazingly knowledgeable... I am new to Tandem TSlim pump and with the the 2 ND week with it I went to to a DKA... Very painful sad and scary. I had 5 visits with my Diabetes educator and still had issues understanding. I can commit to going into your website and educate myself so that I can continue living a happy and healthy life with this new transition. Thanks FTF, Blessings!
Your information is very helpful even for a 35 year T1 Diabetic. One other thing to consider with IOB ....Never take a HOT shower after a Bolus as in my situation I dropped from 220-73 within 20 minutes...Lesson learned.😁
That was a thorough explanation of what I’m currently involved with. I hit the gym 3hrs after breakfast with a 9.8 BG (175) for my daily workout which included weight lifting, came back home finding my BG on a constant 13 (234). Contacted Omnipod support and had a conversation about IOB and figuring out if my newly installed Pod is having an issue. They suggested changing the Pod again which I find kind of irrelevant! Thanks for the support and happy to find your channel. Now it all make more sense!
Thank you for breaking this down for me. My daughter has t1d and her team has been on and off useless especially Dr. We just switched to the omnipod and we did get training but it was over zoom and her dad tends to take over and say yea understand regardless of anyone else. This has helped me to understand her insulin so much more. We had it down cold and now we're relearning again with the omnipod. This has helped me to relax more with her higher numbers as we adjust to it. Thank you so much!
I recently joined the program and Matt and I had a really nice in depth conversation about this topic and using the tools and concepts in the program to get your blood sugars into range and stay in range. Very helpful information.

It takes it into consideration with any doses, it's pretty smart, but we need to know how to make adjustments for our unique situations as well. Are you familiar with how to do that yourself?
Thanks for educating people, but for those of us who know what IOB means, what does it mean on the TSlim X2? Like, is it just the bolus on board or is it the bolus and the control IQ basal increase, or is it the basal and bolus? I have asked my doctor and tandem and haven't gotten an answer back. With Medtronic the IOB is ONLY the bolus. Thanks!
Ok great info my . Insulin was high from my coffee this morn. I gave 6 units of insulin after my workout came home had a piece of toast, walked dogs ,vacuumed ate oatmeal with raisons a lot of carbs I know, although it was still at 300 with 6 units on board. after 3 hrs! of not eating! I am a week old on the pump so its been different
When you talk about insulin stacking, does that mean that the insulin continues effective longer, or does it double up the effectiveness along with the length of time in the body? For example, if I take 3 units at 1 pm and then at 2 pm I take another 2 units. At 3 pm is the effectiveness of the insulin 5 units, or does the insulin that is being absorbed last an additional hour but at the 3 unit level? Thanks for the information. I learn a lot from you.
Glad you're learning a lot from my videos! And while I can't give medical information or recommendations to "non-clients", we're essentially looking at multiple "lowering" agents with each additional dose. So if it's too much, the blood sugars could come crashing down at a pretty rapid speed if there are multiple doses at play. Happy to chat more, or even point you towards a more advanced training I did here: diabetesinaction.com
Math-wise, if you take into account 4hrs for the insulin to stay in your body it means that if you take 3u at 1pm you will be left with 1.5u IOB at 3pm (2hrs later, which means 50% of your initial bolus is still in your body). Now to that you have to add the 2u bolus you took at 2pm, which by 3pm (1 hour later) it will have only dropped by 25% leaving still 75% of the initial bolus in your body, therefore 2u x 0.75= 1.5u IOB This means that at 3PM you’ll have 3u IOB (1.5u from your initial 1pm bolus and 1.5u for your second 2PM bolus). You have effectively stacked your insulin ;)
So currently I am on a Medtronic 670g with the guardian 3 sensor. My on board time is set for 2.5 hrs. I am switching to the T:Slim and understand the insulin on board is 5 hrs on the T:Slim with no adjustments. Will that be an issue?
I am a new T-Slim user and when exercising I have to do this without IOB. I didn't notice this until today and have had the T-Slim for a week and 3 days. No way am I going to carb load before exercising due to potential lows while exercising, but I would like a true no IOB. With control IQ on and data showing no IOB, then with it off and showing me that I do, I'm not sure I can truly trust the control IQ data. What are your thoughts?
While I'm NOT a doctor and can't give medical advice, yes. That is incredibly high for fasting blood sugars according to a medical standard. Do you have anyone on your medical team helping you with that?

Great info. This has happened to me many times in the last 40 years. I've insulin Stacked a few times during my time. Great explanation.
So glad that you've found value in it! Stacking definitely feels necessary sometimes, but caution is our best friend when doing so haha.

How does control I q work with insulin on board😬

From what I've seen, it looks to be bolus and correction and and additional insulin that control IQ has given. Hopefully this helps!
