    I unironically love the absurd time travel bullshit this game indulges in. The fact that it manages all this and only has the one Blue Emerald paradox is actually pretty impressive given how messy the rest of the game is.

      From what I can guess, the Blue Emerald Paradox is deliberate. The Red emerald never shows up ever, until at the end of the game - aka the end of time - when it is finally located while the world is being destroyed, found by an immortal, ageless creature of Chaos (Shadow). In effect, it's found by the one person who has all of eternity to look for it. It's a God Rock, why shouldn't it be a myth? As for the Yellow, that's been lost in the Dusty Desert for millenia and it isn't until Mephiles uses it in front of Shadow, Rouge and Omega that the myth becomes reality. The Green is VERY real, so real that it's duplicated like, three times? before it can get back to Shadow so that he can defend Sonic, then time travel with Silver and the Blue Emerald into the past and use it to seal Mephiles.
      The fact that the Blue Emerald suddenly comes into paradoxial existence at the same moment as there is a horrible accident in an experiment in time travel? That is SO MUCH DELIBERATE. And for that matter, the time-travelling Silver finds it in White Acropolis only the night before Elise and Eggman, its former owners, die on the Egg Carrier and Sonic is murdered by Mephiles - three deaths which erase all knowledge of the Blue Chaos Emerald from history coincidentally just minutes after Silver and Shadow uses Blue and Green to travel to the past, locking the Blue into its 10-years paradox of safety.

      You could say that's part of the paradox.... A place where the Blue Chaos Emerald both exists and does not exist. What the hey, in Sonic 1 a younger Sonic finds 7 BLUE Chaos Emeralds in the messed up Special Zone.
      After all the crazy effort put into the story, it's hard to believe it wasn't deliberate in some way.

    My head cannon is that there are 3 timelines. One where the main game happens. One where Elise blows out solaris. And one where mephiles is never released. This is the timeline where Elise dies, iblis is released, and is the future crisis city

    There's actually a belief of two Mephilises acting in the game, which is how he loses to shadow, while killing sonic. There's the future Mephilis who set the game in motion, and the present Mephilis who is created by Mephilis's actions. How's that for paradoxes?

      I worked out that you only actually need one. Because the Blue Emerald is the paradox, but in Sonic 1, the Emerald that young Sonic finds in the Special Zone is blue, and he brings it back - and indeed he does this multiple times cuz he doesn't realise it's THE SAME EMERALD EACH TIME. The powerful emerald is what makes the Special Zone stable, except he takes it out, and that's why the Special Zone is always weird - it's constantly falling apart.
      But you can't have more than one thing in one place, so that causes infinite energy in one place while also infinite Emeralds. So Sonic becomes Super-Sonic, and after he finishes in Sonic 1, this infinite power returns to the Special Zone, which is why the Special Zone can REBUILD after falling apart. After that, because there's so much power the Emerald becomes the multiple Chaos Emeralds that we always see after that game. So basically, Sonic created the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1.
      The multi-coloured Chaos Emeralds are much more flexible so they can be in the real world - but it's STILL infinite energy so it still gives god-powers.

    The easiest solution for the blue Chaos Emerald loop is to simply assume that Eggman kept the blue Chaos Emerald for the time machine, given that's why he wanted it, and his robot merely found it on patrol.
    As for the purple emerald, I believe it's a case where Mephiles in Shadow's route pre-dates him finding it in the Last story, which pre-dates Mephiles in Silver's story, which then pre-dates Mephiles murdering Sonic.

    • @davidwhitted289
      @davidwhitted289 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A solution for the Blue chaos emerald time loop in my opinion would go like this:
      There had to have been an original timeline with no time travelers interfering. Therefore the Blue chaos emerald is untouched. The silver of that timeline potentially found it and went back in time with it, making two chaos Emeralds in the same timeline.

  • @iansynge7656
    @iansynge7656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Wow. Looking at it fully like that, yeah, this game is a mess. I never even realized that we were continually missing one of the Chaos Emeralds until the very end of the game, or that two of the others are subject to a boostrap paradox and duplication respectively.

  • @hyenaholicproductions9033
    @hyenaholicproductions9033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    OMG I JUST CAUGHT AN IDEA.
    The Blue Emerald? You know what about that? All the Emeralds in the original Sonic game were blue! (And so, of course, is Sonic) The young Sonic brought them back from the Special Zone! You know, they're from another dimension? So in fact, he brought back the SAME EMERALD MULTIPLE TIMES (similar to what happened to the Green Emerald here). In order to even EXIST in this dimension, they HAD to become multiple colours, in order to pretend that they were and always had been different gems. Whenever you use Chaos Emeralds, you are unwittingly multiplying a single gem's power by seven, so OF COURSE you gain Godlike power.

  • @WaltK92

    Theory: the Game Gear games all take place in the 06 timeline. Because the white emerald becomes nonexistent for a decade, the events of Sonic 2 (16-bit) and everything directly following it are unable to happen. The events of Sonic 2 (8-bit), Sonic Chaos, and Sonic Triple Trouble all happen in their place.

    • @hyenaholicproductions9033
      @hyenaholicproductions9033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Theory: The blue emeralds in the first game from the Special Zone are also the blue emerald in this game. They are, in fact, the SAME EMERALD. You see the emeralds getting duplicated, and that's why they're so powerful.

  • @hyenaholicproductions9033
    @hyenaholicproductions9033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I love time travel stories and I don't mind the Blue Chaos Emerald existing and not existing at once, or multiple of the same Chaos Emeralds existing. I mean, whenever you run into a problem with Chaos Emeralds, just sit down and say "It's a fuckin' Chaos Emerald. It turns you into GOD. Why wouldn't it come out of nowhere?" Hell, maybe it's the lack of Chaos Emeralds in the world that allows all that evil to arise, or the ride some of them go on or Silver making the Blue Emerald not exist by giving it to Elise, or the Red Emerald ALWAYS existing, that shits on time. Silver didn't even know the older Elise had the Blue Chaos Emerald at the start; he gave this item of immense power to her out of the kindness of his heart. If he hadn't given it to her, the Blue Emerald would have stopped existing period, and THAT would have fucked up the world for sure. SILVER spawned the Blue Chaos Emerald into being!
    Never forget, the first time Sonic meets Silver, Silver telling him that he's going to ruin the future despite all the people Sonic's helped and would never pull this shit, for all he knows this kid is just fuckin' crazy. He's just some asshole assassin sent by Eggman. And time travelling courtesy of Eggman (to find out that Silver IS from the future and is being taken for a ride by some freaky purple guy) or evil time travelling courtesy of Mephiles, which Silver first does, is not the same as time travelling courtesy of Chaos Control, which is something Shadow and Silver (Silver only around BECAUSE of Mephiles' evil time travel) discover almost by accident.
    If you look at the Chaos Timeline, it makes sense that Mephiles could only make himself powerful two days after the festival (when Elise dies/doesn't die-Sonic dies/doesn't die) because this is the only time all the Chaos Emeralds exist in time at once, even if they aren't all in the same place. And on top of that there are a lot more Chaos Emeralds in the world at that time than there ought to be. The Sonic who dies isn't the REAL REAL Sonic (the REAL REAL Sonic failed) and the Elise who survives only to cry isn't the REAL REAL Elise, so gathering those Emeralds from across time and space would indeed join the dead Sonic with the living Sonic (who is grieving over dead Elise). Because Chaos Emeralds.
    You could say that these three young men were all meant to both save and destroy the world at once, but were born in the wrong generations to do it - Shadow created artificially in the past from a strange alien, and put in stasis so that he could be awoken to protect the present, then blamed for the Flames of Disaster thing thanks to Mephiles using his form, Sonic born in the present (and we don't actually know who his parents are ;) ) and dying during the release of the Flames of Disaster, Silver being born in the future - again, to parents unknown. And many people suspect his ancestor is either Sonic or Shadow - but that's impossible because Sonic is killed and Shadow is locked into stasis... kinda like how it's impossible for the Blue Chaos Emerald to exist, right? RIGHT?!
    The big problem with this story, is that it's a KID'S VIDEO GAME, and kids can just about understand the story of Back To The Future or Terminator 1-2. It just about works as a movie or a book. It doesn't work when you're trying to play three (distractingly buggy) stories at once, constantly dying unfairly, hitting bugs, slamming into loading screens... and just throwing up your hands in a wail of frustration every time.

    I was thinking about ways that could justify the Blue Chaos Emerald's existence outside the loop is if Mephiles had gotten it from somewhere in time and inserted it into the loop, possibly when Silver finds it after Egg Genesis. Without visibly time travelling, the next time we see Silver, Mephiles is also there and talks with Silver, meaning if Eggman had put the emerald into the Egg Genesis, then 2 Blue Emeralds could exist at that time. Also Eggman presumably put the Blue Emerald into "Egg Genesis", and I'm not sure if that is mentioned directly at any point, but if it is, there are multiple instances of Egg Genesis floating around anyway.
    If Eggman had a Blue Emerald prior to the events of the game, then he could insert a Blue Emerald into both instances of Egg Genesis, the one Silver fights having the one he picked up, gave to Elise, and then got taken by Eggman to put into Sonic's Egg Genesis.
    The Blue Emerald is complicated, but I feel like it could have been resolved with some changing of Emerald colours. If the Blue Emerald existed in the past at the Aquatic Base anyway, and Silver was in possession of the Red Emerald from the future, then instead of leaving the Blue one in the past, and using the Red one to get to the past, then I think it would solve the issue of the creation of the Emerald in a way that is easy to understand.
    Personally I think that Eggman just already had a Blue one, got the other from Elise, had one for each of the 2 Egg Genesis (Genesi?), and Silver took one from Eggman to give to Elise, and nobody recovered one from Sonic's Egg Genesis (Sonic was too busy unkidnapping Elise, talking at a pond, and then having Elise give herself up immediately after)
    Aside from kidnapping Elise and looking for Chaos Emeralds, Eggman doesn't do much in this game, he is rarely present, but I imagine if he had the Blue Emerald, and also knew Elise had the Blue Emerald, then he would be interested by the existence of two of the same emerald and opt to go for that one first (especially as he was already trying to get Elise). If I remember correctly, Eggman was also quite knowledgeable about Iblis, Mephiles, and Solaris.
    I enjoyed finally watching a full playthrough of the game. I watched a friend play it in person, he didn't realize he had it until I noticed it on the games shelf, but we both knew what we were getting into. He played Sonic's story as far as the Sliver fight, and we experienced a glitch (shocking I know) where Silver pushed us out of the fight area and into the rest of the half loaded Soleanna, complete with no npcs, no entities, and invisible bridges. A fun time. (I believe either trying to get back in, or during a different attempt at the fight, Silver launched Sonic minutes into the sky beyond the ceiling over the fight).
    Anyway enough of this essay of a comment, thanks for reading if you did.

    With several emeralds just phasing out of existence, you have so many of Sonic's adventures just impossible at that point.
    Sonic fighting Perfect Chaos, Sonic and Shadow fighting the Finalhazard, Sonic fighting Eggman in Advance 1 and 2, Sonic Tails and Knuckles fighting Metal Overlord, Shadow fighting Devil Doom, Sonic and Eggman fighting Gemerl, Sonic and Blaze fighting the Egg Salamander, all gone.

      In Sonic 1, all the Emeralds were blue. When Silver gives the Blue Emerald to Elise, he is basically creating an infinite loop. There are infinite Blue Emeralds, giving it infinite power. Sonic collects enough of them from the Special Zone to turn Super.

    You say that Mephiles has the purple emerald the entire time, but I'd assume that happens last for Mephiles... for some reason, even though he ends up already getting it with every other emerald in End of the World anyways. It's more meant for a cinematic beat than a story one. Its whereabouts matter as much as the Red emerald.
    My personal timeline for Mephiles sees him getting sealed by Shadow, awakened by Rouge and Eggman's stupidity, jumping to the future so he can start continuously tempting Silver while he's frustrated with his existence in a shitty future until Shadow shows him the truth, coming back to the future off-screen in an attempt to tempt Shadow but getting his ass kicked, turning into the Crystal form and going back to the past to attempt to obtain more Chaos emeralds, and getting his ass kicked by Shadow again until he decides he should have been the villain of Sonic's story instead and goes to kill him and cause none of the emerald shenanigans to matter anyways and time itself to be broken into one moment.

      We see Mephiles become more powerful with each paradox created. The first two are caused by Silver. He gives Princess Elise the Blue Emerald, trapping it inside a time loop, and then takes the White Emerald out of existence, preventing Shadow from ever being awakened on Prison Island by Eggman, so he never became a hero. Fuck it, the third is caused by Silver too, when he helps Sonic time travel for the reason of saving Elise, creating two Sonics. I mean, if Elise is dead she can't cry.

    I get the feeling the paradox could be solved if Eggman had the red emerald installed as well and that's what silver used, and he just finds the blue one in the future because someone buried it or something and he found it and gave to elise, kinda causing two of the blue emerald to exist at the same time. Silver just keeps the red one after that event. Something like that, this comment is already too much for me to type on mobile but you get the idea.

      a resolution i thought of is that Elise loses the Emerald some point before the Festival of the Sun; she (or some royal servants) find it again. The one she found is actually the past version of the one she had; from the Emerald's perspective, it exists, gets taken by Elise who gives it to Sonic etc., Silver takes it back in time, gives it to Elise then she loses it at some point.

    • @hyenaholicproductions9033
      @hyenaholicproductions9033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Considering Eggman uses Emeralds to send Sonic into the future, it makes sense that he'd have an Emerald. Whenever I run into a problem with Chaos Emeralds, I sit down and say "These things turn you into fuckin' GOD, and use of a single one can freeze time, why wouldn't their absence from the world, or them going on a ride through time, or multiples existing at once, or even touching each other, shit on time or cause an evil god to arise? Why can't they just start existing whenever? In Shadow's story, the Chaos Emerald goes with them... well, isn't that part of the paradox?" Heck, when Sonic first meets Silver, for all he knows this kid is just some kind of crazy asshole assassin sent by Eggman. It's not until he travels through time thanks to Eggman, that he realises Silver IS from the future and he's being taken for a ride.
      Ironically, the Sonic Mephiles kills (and thus Elise cries) isn't the real Sonic - the original Sonic failed but survived, and Iblis was meant to be destroyed when Elise died. So they COULD save Sonic, kind of. And saving Elise DID trigger Iblis, and he wouldn't have been able to save her if Silver hadn't time travelled in the first place and learned about it. She wouldn't have cried if she hadn't been saved.
      The problem is that this works as a story (or it would if Elise wasn't such a damn useless, uninteresting bitch), but not as a kid's video game, because every time you die, every time you glitch, every time you hit a loading screen, you throw up your hands in a wail of frustration and feel horribly distracted.

    I think the Back To The Future Timeline explanation is the best way to solve everything here. As the characters go back in time at particular points in the past, we see that the timeline they previously were present in gets erased and are set back onto the main timeline. Other than that, the Blue Chaos Emerald paradox is resolved through the Master Emerald being considered to exist across the space time continuum, it obtains Nigh-Omnipresence. Due to the Chaos Emeralds being bi-product of the Master Emerald, they would gain Nigh-Omnipresence as well. As such, the Blue Chaos Emerald paradox is resolved due to the Chaos Emeralds’ higher tier of existence.

    Separate from the game, this means Iblis is hanging out in someone else’s dimension? That’s kinda messed up from our heroes lol.
    In any case, the way I thought about this game was basically this: it’s a fixed paradox until the end of the story. Every event keeps repeating because of the chaos emeralds being jumbled in time (and let’s exclude any other Sonic game where those are necessary lol). So everything keeps looping until Elise blows out the flame, and Mephiles was gone.
    I don’t think of it as messy, more like too much to think about to understand.

    Really the problem with the time travel in Sonic 06 is that it can't decide which kind of time travel rules it's using. In Shadow and Sonic's stories, it is using something called a causality flow, where we see the changes to the past before we understand how and why they were changed. This model of time travel was used in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. It wouldn't be the first time they reference Harry Potter, because Black Doom is specifically based on the Dementors from the same book.
    But at the end of Silver's story, when he and Blaze return to the future, it is still the same devastated future they came from. Come to think of it, why do Silver and Blaze just decide to return to the future at all? They have no reason not to go with Sonic in the present. I have the sneaking suspicion that in one of the drafts for this story, they weren't supposed to do this, but then the developers realized that Silver hadn't gone through all the stages in the game. So they made a last minute change to the story and had him return to the future, just as an excuse to get him to Flame Core. This suggests that future in Silver's story is just an alternate dimension and that changing the past has no effect on Silver's future. An easy fix for this problem would be have them go through Flame Core after they go through Crisis City and move the first Iblis fight to after they complete Flame Core. Then when Mephiles kills Sonic and causes Elise to release Iblis, Silver and Blaze fight that early form of Iblis as the final boss of their campaign.
    These ideas about time travel are naturally opposed to one another. It can't be the former because Silver's future would be fixed if Sonic succeeded in saving Elise. And it can't be the latter because then Mephiles wouldn't remember Shadow to come up with this revenge plan. If the story is going to treat time travel like dimensional travel, then why not fully commit to it and make it about dimensional travel? Have the destroyed world be part of the Sol dimension, that would explain why Blaze is with Silver and nerf both Mephiles and the main three hedgehogs, killing three birds with one stone. Maybe change Shadow and Silver going to the past to; Shadow and Silver go to a hidden lab Mephiles has set up to create something to contain this world's version of Iblis once he's found him. Mephiles will trick Silver and Blaze into thinking that he's sending them to the past but in reality, he's just sending them to Sonic's dimension. Once Shadow destroys the item Mephiles was building to contain Iblis at the lab and Iblis doesn't escape from it, Silver and Blaze realize they've been duped and head off to help Sonic. Those are my two options for how to fix the story of Sonic 06.

      The rule of time travel is that the future always happened they even explain in rival that the master emerald is an object that exists across all time and is the same you can infer that the chaos emeralds are as well which explains the blue emerald paradox plus sonic shadow and silvers story’s happen at the same time they even say that Elise dies and that the need to get back even though they have time travel that means that time operates on a sliders where however much time you spend in the future I.e 10 seconds you would return 10 seconds from the present and when the egg carrier goes down there always was a sonic to save Elise

    I still have no idea about what’s actually going on in this game, different versions of each character time travelling or in the same timeline or even how shadow and silver went back in time by 10 years in the very start still confuses me when silver is from 200 years in the future even though they go back in time from the present after their fight to trap iblis and mephiles and save the princess it’s just so confusing like tfs going on man 😂😂😂

    Even with how much the time travel and chaos emerald stuff makes no sense , its that elise kidnap counter that makes least sense to me. Not to victim blame but woman you need to protect yourself at least a little. Oh nice fakeout ending the video at 1:32

    Guys can someone explain to me how Sonic and Silver know each other if the events of Sonic 06 means they don’t technically cross paths? Also does this mean that Silver’s future isn’t tumultuous and Blaze isn’t “banished” to another dimension? Living happily with Silver???

    Say what you will about the wonky time travel or call convoluted story, but they are still far more interesting than any of the story beats in Unleashed, Colors, Lost World...etc.
