In 1971 our home "music centre" was a 1947 mono radio cabinet (Radionette). It was state-of-art when it was new. In 1971 I was 16 years and was begging for a Hi-Fi system. My father gave in, and we got a Tandberg Sølvsuper 11 stereo radio (2 x 30 watt RMS/sinus!) , a Garrard turntable and 2x50 liter speakers! I was in heaven! My first record was the double-LP "Mad Dogs And Englishmen" by Joe Cocker. After attending a live pubconcert in 1973 in London with the Sparks (they were living in UK at the time) I bougth my first Sparks-album the year after; Kimono My House. From that moment I became a true Sparks-fan ever since. I was living in a small town (Porsgrunn, Norway, population of 20.000) at the time, and the main record store ordered two of every new Sparks albums; One for me, and one for a another person (which remains unknow until this day). I think the two brothers, Ron and Russel Mael, havn't got the credit they deserve. As of March this year, they are part of a supergroup called FFS together with Franz Ferdinand. There are not many musicans with a career like the Maelbrothers.
I was about 10 years old in the middle of the 70s and when I first saw Sparks, on TV, I thought that Ron Mael was blind, but after a while I realised that he was just... strange. I think that maybe today it's hard to fully understand how strange, and out, their music was back then. Sid Vicious and the rest of them were mainstream in comparison.

Sparks started their synth era 1979, March 2, when they presented their 'No. 1 In Heaven', produced by no less than Georgio Moroder. (The album was recorded -78, but the record label didn't know how to... LABEL it😢😁😢😁😢so it took some extra months before it was out in the stores.) Sparks started as a band in 1968, using the name 'Halfnelson', released their self named album 1971, that album was re-issued -72 as 'Sparks' as they changed the name of the group. That year they also let their second album 'A woofer in a tweeter's clothing' see daylight. And 1974; first 'Kimono My House', then 'Propaganda'. 1975 'Indiscreet', -76 'Big Beat' (very far from 'No. 1..'), -77 'Introducing Sparks'. Nothing that put keyboard in the first room, until the complete turn with help of Moroder -78/79.😃🤩💖💖💖 They did (their label) a video of 'This Town ain't big enough for the both of us' 1974.
