Le groupe Devo invité de l'émission comique Le Collaro Show le 18 Juin 1980 interpréte en playback " Girl You Want " avec un cornet de glace !
2:05 Alan on electronic drums
2:24 Bob1 you punk !!
The cinematography is excellent. Why wasn't THIS the music video for "Girl U Want"?
“Can we play it live?” “No.” “Fine froggy, I’ll sing it into an ice cream cone.”
frog what ???
take care, we eat frogs but also english and american people !
😄
Brilliant, absolutely BRILLIANT! ! ! ! !
My god, this reminds me of something I would see on Fridays.… And just like in America no one knew what they were seeing.… No big deal I just am so glad that I got to see Devo do their thing in the day I enjoyed the music till this day.… I consider myself to be extremely fortunate
Murray Manchanthasouk Translation: "What are these flowerpots?" "These are no flowerpots! This is DEVO, one of the best bands in the world! Come on, ask them to sing a song!"
+Sabina Kangerud Thanks a lot!
The French are just as mesmerized by Devo as I would if I saw them playing a spot on performance in the middle of a town!
In the middle of a bunch of pricks that had never seen any such band b4
I am french, was listening to devo since 1978... I was a total mess in my country 😂😂
The French people sit transfixed, thinking that they are watching a sub-species of mimes.
mcgoodle They're the best!
In 1970 on an ocean liner, as a 7 yo dragged across the world by my parents to a new country of residence,
I sat utterly bewildered as a strange Frenchman waddled around us 3rd class passenger kids and did funny moves. I later found out it was Marcel Marceau! Completely lost on me at time! As I think Devo might be to some of this crowd!.
Well, they are miming, since the music is playback and not live.
They are.
I saw on TV this back then. My introduction to Devo.
The exact location of this filming is 33 rue des Alouettes 75019 Paris. The Bar "Les Comédiens" is now a pizza restaurant...
OMG! This is the best thing I've ever seen! Mark singing into an ice cream, Bob1 flipping off the camera... this is absolutely amazing. I must use some of this in the Devo video I'm making.
bob casale! an under rated true talent on many levels
How in the world do 4 dudes from Ohio make do many fantastic decisions? This stuff is timeless.
@Ottavio Rubini oops, I miscounted. 5 dudes from OH. Much greatness.
@@disfibulatorBob 2 died. It’s four now.
Absolutely awesome album
Devo blew so many minds that day
* bored, 1980's French conservative normies say no more.
Thank you so much for posting this! I thought I saw everything Devo did and this blew me away… I love this band and I love Bob’s perfect bird at the end of the guitar solo….Oui!!
🤣😂
“Qui Qui” 😂 🇺🇸🇫🇷
Alan myers is "playing" a couple electro harmonix space drum
Great shot of Alan playing drums
Absolutely fantastic
One of my favorite Devo songs!
Wonderful! What a gem! It made a great music video. I especially liked how Mark walked (the Naughahyde pants don't bend very easily, I guess). Come to think of it, given the increasingly rapid pace of devolution, pretty soon all of us might wind up wearing Naughahyde pants -- or at least walk like we do.
Still sounds great after 30 odd years 😊
Remember Disco, which I love, was still around at this time! Almost 40 years ago!!! Space spuds have landed. 😍
Yeeoooowww!! Great stuff, Alain! Thanks so much for posting this. I hadn't seen this until now, and it's some of the best DEVO TV I've ever seen! -Michael/Devo-Obsesso
Great stuff. DEVO never disappoints...
That was France in the 80's. people had no idea what was going on. they look confused.
that's a stupid statement man ..cause they where a lot of french who know's what to deal with devo...it's only that i'm not sure devo belong to this sort of public who is very "popular" . devo woul'd be more fiting in show like "chorus" ...but to be really honnest they where a lot of french who didn't like this sorts of band
Yeah, "synth music" was "devil music" back in the late 70's/early 80's for most of french people...
The majority of Americans had the same reaction to Devo in 1980.
You haven't particularly described France. You've described the 1980's to a 'T' though!
They were probably expecting Jerry Lewis.
Ah, le Collaroshow, Martin Lamotte, Bernard Hommel ... 😋😃
bien vu !

Wow, what a rare find!
Where has this video been all my life def deep catalog DEVO
They were such brilliant performance artists aside from being great visionary musicians
The French were not ready for DEVO yet😂 They were ahead of their time❤️❤️❤️
Devo c’est tres merveilleux
Tres magnifique! Merci beaucoup, Alain.
Never saw this vid before tonight! Ka-POW!!! Even better than I knew it would be!
2:23 BOB1 flips the "bird"
Doesn't that have "International" meaning?
@@mattkilleen7174 In France it means: film my face not my hands.
alain!!! thank you, what a GREAT share. peace to you kind Spud.
The energy cones!
Seeing DEVO in Chicago during a teenage acid trip changed my life
did you figure out that DEVO wasn't even really there
Transfixed on LSD
thier early stuff is just the best, the dumb french guy yelling out window : show some manners im having a conference here, haha epic. he doesn't understand what he just heard how good it is, even 50 years later, still rocking, I just saw thier final last show they will ever play at utube theater In inglewood, calif, that guy in the window is long gone. their music will last longer then all of us will live because its just so great.
No! Pay us!"
Super vidéo, merci!
Here in 2024 and still in love with Bob 1 2:24
The video here is GIRL U WANT. A track that toys with the advertising campaigns that depict must-have buys, framed by the words ‘WANT IT’ with the question mark deliberately left out.
Jerry Casale elaborated on the song: "It's about the essence of desire - what does the girl really represent for the guy? She represents this aching desire. She's the object that motivates the guy to do everything he does, so we're just describing the attributes of the power of the female. She sings from somewhere you can't see, like the famous myth of the sirens that used to lure the sailors to their deaths by singing to them in the night and they'd go try to find these girls that didn't really exist, and the boat would crash on the rocks and they'd die. It's the girl playing with the guy on the end of the string."
The French Ginger guy looks kinda like Booji Boy😂
Didn't he, though!
love it! merci!
This is so funny. DEVO looks used to playing to confused crowds.
Devo les gens! So funny, this performance was filmed for this popular/franchouillard program of the 70 & 80s which in those days was the equivalent of the Benny Hill show for France on tv. The song itself is so simple and catchy that they just couldn't help but find it entertaining and maybe pas trop à chier ^^
Yep, and now the French have realised that the popular/franchouillard programs weren't so bad after all, just as they have in England and America. I find the crowd more interesting and far less dated than Mark Mothersbaugh's jejune performance in the video.
Excellent !
Awesomenesss
I would bet many franks that Daft Punk found some inspiration from this song from the boys from Ohio. Both legendary bands BTW.
Estandarte
they came from the future...amazing
très bien!
HEY ALAIN!!!!! Woooo hooooo! DEVO curls my toes.......meow😻
IM LAUGHING MY ASS OFF RIGHT NOW
Devo broadcasted in french TV show for kids... I also discovered on TH-cam a Dr Feelgood performance in french school yard in the 70's... Same audience reaction : Where are those aliens coming from ? :)) J'aurais voulu être là...
I like Bob 1 wearing his dome at that jaunty angle.
2:24 he gives us the finger LMAO
# 1 in the French singles chart
fantastico
So I didn't imagine bob's middle finger during the close-up, then??
Bob1.
Fortunately, not the same reaction when the cameraman gets too close to Ritchie Blackmore. 😃
That was epic
Damn, forgot I have old comments on this video lmao
OUI!
nous sommes tous DEVO...
If I were their drummer, the knobs on my electronic drums would be completely snapped off…trying to hit what looked like a 4” plate. 🤘🤘🤘
Did anyone else think the guy in the zebra shirt looked a little like Booji Boy? Especially at the end of the video.
awesome!
Iv been into Gary long before his hit song CARS
Best album :The Pleasure Principal, especially the song Down In The Park
I was skinny in 1980 too.
Everyone was skinny in 1980! If you were fat you were either Meatloaf or Alison Moyet!
(No one was actually obese)
Pretty much everybody was skinny back in 1980. In my 1980 high school graduating class, there was only ONE over-weight person.
COOL George Harrison White Album photo pic t-shirt there on one of the lucky spuds assembled for the performance!..
Hahaha awesome!!
1:05 Energy Dome bump!
THE BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST !!!!!
Please read the 33 1/3 book series of Freedom of Choice. I would gladly pay admission for a biopic of DEVO's european tour film.
Yeah but at least the French got DEVO curbside and applause!
My eyes enjoyed the video. Does anyone know the make and model of that guitar?
American national treasure ❤
and that was a real icecream
Spooky Ghost Slowly melting in Marks hands as he sings perfectly!
Cream de glacé 🇺🇸🇫🇷
Those French people sure know how to dance.
dingue !
Je veux en glace maintenant 😂
The fellow in the striped shirt....France has it's own Booji Boy!
You can almost hear the crowd thinking "they're ok, but they're no jerry lewis, now there's a real artist!".
"C'est fini c'bordel !!!"
great
Concert à Emporter ! un vrai
Devo go to France, and theyre MORE American. The greatest lads
Why would they gather a whole bunch of French people, that are either too old, or too young for Devo’s demographics.
The people are looking at them, like they are from Mars (no pun intended)
Hé ! C'est pas fini ce bordel !...
Never seen Bob play an Iceman before.
Wonder why he didn't keep it, it's slick.
Shape of new Louvre and the Energy Domes?
Love it, but it's not live.
I miss Bob 2.
That mics not even plugged in 🤔
👍
