Also recommendation for the Opinel No.8 handle preservation, apply a coating of boiled linseed oil once a month to keep wood in beautiful condition. I’ve never had a handle come loose and I still use my original No.8 I got twenty years ago. I’ve since gotten others so I can rotate and keep some in all my different shops like wood, garage, luthier, instrument repair, and have three I rotate for pocket carry.

What about the Morakniv carving blades, model 106 and 120? Really unique carving tools.

Wow I’ve been carrying an OPINEL No.8 as my EDC pocket knife for close to 20 years now. It’s a super performing blade and I never thought about getting a few in smaller No. models but it makes perfect sense. I do use my no8 for whittling but it’s a little big for finer work so today ima log on and order a couple more. Also for what it matters I can’t recommend this company enough for EDC folder!!

Would you recommend the Opinel No.07 folding scoring knife?

Sure. It'd depend on what you were doing - A lot of people like them for whittling to peeling chestnuts. The locking mechanism is solid too. Bit pricey though tbh.

@@selfmadenewbie gotcha. I’ve seen a ton about carbon vs stainless for whittling. I do live in the Midsouth and as I type this it went from sunny to downpour so I keep telling myself to grab a stainless one but some inner part of me really wants to try carbon for my first Opinel. Thanks for the advice and reply!

My flex cut knife is getting loose, been using it for a while and the blade will wiggle back and forth. Any suggestions on how to make it tight again? If not possible, what’s a good intermediate whittling knife around 50$
